yes and i still want a directors cut
no, you suck.
aside from the villain, i actually really liked it
I've missed you ever since they announced Man of Steel was going to be a reboot.
>dark knight had just come out
>superman returns was still pretty fresh
>they announce the sequel will be called Man of Steel
>cool, just like how the new batman movie had his name in it then the sequel is one of his aliases, same with Superman
>they'll probably do a batman/superman team up/fight movie after that
I was so hyped, then they threw it away.
This film is sitting on a gold mine of a Superman premise: What if The Man of Tomorrow disappeared for a few years? What would happen to the world? What would happen to the people in his life? How would the world react if and when he came back?
But the only thing Bryan Singer is interested in is waxing nostalgic over the Donner era of Superman. The premise only used as a springboard to explain to an audience why we haven't seen any Superman films since the 80s, something that doesn't need to be explained. Most of the complaints of the film is that it's just Superman lifting things with not enough action (thanks, guys, you got us Man of Steel as a result). The truth of the matter is that the film just has no story here. Superman returns and everything's a okay. People miss him and now they're glad he's back. Oh, Lex Luthor has another shitty real estate plan but he'll be taken care of just fine.
Seriously, how hard do you have to try to fuck this story up? Why not make a film where after Superman saves the people on the plane they boo him? Why not make a film where Superman has to try and earn the trust of the public back? Why not make a film where Lex Luthor has actually become a force for good in the world since Superman left and tell a story about how it's the existence of Superman that makes Luthor turn to evil? Why not make a film where Superman actually has to grapple with moral conflicts that heavily decide public opinion? Why not have a movie where something actually happens?
You don't need to make it dark and gritty. You don't need to add fight scenes. You don't even need to make it overly exciting. You just need to make it interesting, and it's so depressing that this film isn't in the slightest.
did you rise from the dead out of a closed blockbuster store?
It's funny how people slammed this movie for having a moping superman. They didn't know what was coming.
Also lol Brian Singer and Kevin Spacey must have double teamed superman's actor.
>muh dragon ball z fights
This is a good post and I liked reading it in my head
am i
Returns was a continuation of the old superman movies it wouldve been a classic if it was released closer to its predecessors, marlon brando was still in it so its part of that universe
What do you mean? He had a kid while he was a away and lois made a pulitzer winning article about why the world doesnt need superman, he has that bit where he is in space and can hear everything and he has a few typical superman dilemmas throughout the movie
The rest i sort of agree with but that was explored more in man of steel
What were they thinking?
He had the perfect look, hairline, hairflick, chin, height, frame and wooden acting...

I really liked this scene. 1:11
>where'd you go?
>to Krypton
>but you told me it was destroyed, ages ago
>it was [John Williams Krypton theme starts playing for a few seconds]
It's such a nice scene. When she says "but you told me it was destroyed" she sounds like she's about to cry, and I thought that was a nice touch. It's such a delicate, emotional movie, and I get why people didn't like it, but I quite enjoyed it.
Had almost forgotten how bad the suit looked
How could I miss superman? He's in every movie that comes out these days.
they probably should've went with muted blue and vibrant red instead
Still better than that over designed nonsense from Man of Steel.
I've never really given Superman Returns a lot of thought, but in retrospect this does a good job of summing up why I didn't care for it.
Literally untrue, an objectively false opinion
I don't know, I'd take Cavill's suit over whatshisname's suit if I had to choose

They did, it's called Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
dont touch me kevin spacey
Look at that shit around his waist. All those lines and that stupid little "belt buckle" oval. That's what I'm talking about. It's unnecessary detail that serves no purpose and it's too much. And look at the embroidered pattern on the suit and the washed out colors. Superman looks like a fucking ghost.
Better a ghost than a cartoon character with his underoos on the outside
There's also TV superman
