Yes it gets much better.
I watched the first episode a year ago and thought it was meh.
Then a couple of months ago I decided to watch it again and was hooked as fuck from the second episode onwards

It isn't like Spartacus where the first few episodes are really awful and then get good. The tone of this show is pretty much the same throughout the entire season. I thought it was good, but if you don't like it I wouldn't watch anymore.
