would it have made for a better movie Sup Forums?
These are some of the earliest pieces of concept art for Star Wars: The Force Awakens™
slutty twi'lek sith would obviously be an improvement
before Jakku became 'not-Tatooine'
Anakin/Vader force ghost
...
It probably would have been more outlandish but only appreciated by autistic star wars fans
the fuck is the thing behind the twi'lek
A fucking geth by the look of it
that outfit made out of oversized armor scraps is neat
I remember these
I was hoping the new bad guy would look something like him
Yeah this looks cooler and they should bring back jar jar binks.
that floating droid is cute! Way better than that dumbass ball we got.
Seems like Kylo is the biggest carryover from the Lucas/Arndt script era. strangely the best part of new wars
...
I really don't like Kylo.
I get why people like him, he's the only character with any kind of conflict, I just wish his conflict wasn't "durr i dun kno if i want to be evil or not"
I hope Last Jedi gives him a reasonable motivation for his angsty nonsense
...
that looks fucking epic!
Saved this from a post on here a few months ago, dunno how legit it is:
>Rough outline of Michael Arndt's first draft for THE FORCE AWAKENS. Interesting to see what could have been.
>The Resistence led by General Leia Organa is at war against the First Order. Both sides have their own superweapons: The Resistence has the warship Warhammer, and the First Order has the Doomstar Base, capable of destroying stars.
>Kira, a hotheaded scavenger who lives on planet Jakku with her surrogate father, a former Rebel pilot, finds a map in the sunken remains of the Death Star, leading to an ancient Jedi temple foretold to hold great power. She then becomes a target of the Jedi Killer, a member of the First Order who uses artifacts to maintain an artificial connection to the Force, and kills Kira's mentor.
>Meanwhile, Stormtrooper Sam grows desillusioned with the First Order after witnessing the execution of a Rebel squad and forms an alliance with John Doe, a captive bounty hunter employed by Leia to find the map. The two escape to Jakku. Doe dies, while Sam is rescued and revived by shaman Maz Kanata.
>Kira and Sam cross paths and are rescued from the Jedi Killer by Luke Skywalker, who has been following the Jedi Killer to avenge the deaths of his students. Luke leads the pair to "Crime City" so Han Solo can lead them to Leia. Kira and Sam find out that the Jedi Killer is Han and Leia's son, who was corrupted by the sorceress Uber, leader of the First Order.
>The Jedi Killer retrieves the map and kidnaps Kira, who is strong with the Force. Luke, Han and Sam then join the Resistance on an assault on the Doomstar Base, which Han sacrifices himself to destroy, leaving the Millennium Falcon to Sam. Meanwhile, Luke and Kira defeat the Jedi Killer, who flees to reunite with Uber. The heroes then split up, with Kira leaving to train with Luke and uncover the secrets of the Ancient Power, while Sam joins the Resistance as they prepare to strike back against the First Order.
>Other "What Could Have Beens":
>Brad Bird and Matthew Vaughn were reportedly approached to direct the movie before J.J. Abrams was selected.
>Elizabeth Olsen was approached for Rey, but couldn't commit due to scheduling conflicts with AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. Saoirse Ronan and Shailene Woodley were also considered before Abrams cast Daisy Ridley.
>Alex Pettyfer, Ed Speelers, Matthew James Thomas, Jack O'Connell, Jesse Plemons, Dayo Okeniyi and Ray Fisher auditioned for Finn before John Boyega was cast.
>Chiwetel Ejiofor, James McAvoy and Joel Edgerton were considered for Poe Dameron before Oscar Isaac was cast. Early drafts featured him as a bounty hunter and later a Jedi warrior before he was made into an ace pilot.
>Poe would originally die in the TIE Fighter crash, but Abrams changed his mind after meeting Isaac. The character was named "John Doe" in early drafts.
>Lee Pace and Eddie Redmayne auditioned for Kylo Ren. Michael Fassbender was also linked to the role early into production.
>Benedict Cumberbatch was approached for Captain Phasma.
>Gary Oldman was considered for the role of Lor San Tekka.
>Hugo Weaving was considered for the role of Snoke.
Sounds literally like The Force Awakens with names changed up and Luke having a role.
...
It sank in the waters of Endor, post explosion? That seems a little far fetched, with the atmosphere and all.
you're right, nothing to get through an atmosphere
is that rey? who's that supposed to be standing behind her, lesbian han solo? or is that a dude?
That fucking "Junk-Planet" idea was so good.
"Kira and Sam" who became Rey and Finn in later drafts
>tfw we will never have a Star Wars movie where the protagonist is an alien
these both look way better than what we ended up with
I read the concept art book.
I fucking hate that almost everything in that is original, bizarre, interesting and above all, fitting within star wars, and they decided to throw all that cool shit out the window in favor of making an awful rehash.
Rey scrap diving on a junk planet would have made the movie so much better, even if they didn't change anything else.
jesus christ what happened
After the prequel backlash they were too scared of doing anything too different from the OT.
Is that Hellboy?
looks like shit.
yeah the book is depressing in a way. Tracking how all these neat ideas were removed and altered in favour of more and more rehash designs and story elements is saddening
...
Kira and Sam were probably copies of the twins from the novels.
Jedi Killer didn't have a clear identity until Abrams.
Solo dying and Kylo being Ben seems to have originated from Abrams going by the art.
...
This looks neat.
Hope we get something like this in the third flick at least.
Is that why they did it? The changes strike me as being motivated mainly by pinny pinching. Every design decision that I saw when I watched the movie in theaters looked like it had been chosen specifically so it could be done in a green screen room.
His internal conflict mostly stemmed from the fact that his parents were shit at being parents and dumped him at his uncle.
That works so much better. It's nasty, grimy, really gives the sense of a place you don't want to live but have to eek out a life from all of the nasty shit left there. Making it another fucking desert literally does nothing to differentiate it from Tatooine. It may as well be Tatooine.
I'm really glad this didn't make it into the movie
it's way too on the nose in being a literal externalization of Kylo's conflict, but then again people liked the prequels explaining literally everything the characters were feeling through exposition so maybe people would have responded to it
It's like the star destroyer and droid control ship had a baby and that baby was really cute.
>All this artwork of bizarre, almost macabre imagery
>Jakku was almost a rotting swamp world filled with Sith relics
>These fantastical ship designs that look new and fresh
>The disturbing, cult like imagery of the New Order
>Thinking of how all this amazing creativity was slowly siphoned out
>"Yeah but focus testing shows that audiences respond well to TIE fighters; can those be in again?"
>"I think instead Jakku should be a desert world, like Tattooine"
>It goes on until we just have the same old shit with storm troopers and x wings and desert worlds and another fucking death star
>Main villain was almost Hugo Weaving
FUCK I didn't know I could be this mad.
>There are people who still think Reylo won't happen
They obviously had a concept of this thought out early on. They've even admitted that proto-Rey and proto-Kylo were the first characters they hammered out, and everybody else was tacked on later.
>Sam Solo/10
