The miniseries seems dope, Alexander is "too" accurate - filled with unnecessary details making the whole movie kinda boring. Alexander would have worked better as a series imo.

It's one of the very best war movies out there, well worth a watch. Don't worry about the runtime, it will feel a lot less long than 2 hours of capeshit.

Imagine the backlash when they cast black people for nazi roles.

That's bullshit and you know it.

A bit long yes, but they both are divided in 4 or 5 parts if I remember well, so you can marathon them is as many sessions as you need you short attentions spans mongrels.

Holy shit I watched it with my father the last time I was home (he really loves american history).
Italian television showed it in its full version, we had a blast. Very well made.

Casting is absolute genius (aside from Martin Sheen as Lee, Robert Duvall is better, but still okay).
Jeff Daniels as Joshua Chamberlain and Stephen Lang as Stonewall Jackson are fucking amazing, they totally kill every last one of their scenes, it's the best roles I've seen them in.

I really don't know, I don't have a N°1 favorite I'd say, there are so many good scenes in these two movies, but yeah, probably the charge, or the short speech Chamberlain gives to the Maine mutineers in Gettysburg.
And pretty much every scene with Stephen Lang in Gods and Generals, the ones with the little girl who's waiting for her dad to come home from the war, the first battle with the stonewall brigade, his last speech to the Stonewall Brigade, there are so many good scenes it's really hard to choose.

Eh, difficult. What I said above, and good point about the speech to the Maine mutineers.
Also I realized that there are 2 important charges - the downhill one by the union, and the desperate one by the confederates. Very dramatic.
But you are also right that the small character moments beyond the action make the movie, and is all the actor's work.

Nope. Worked great as a movie for those actually interested in history.

You can be interested in history all you want but Alexander talking to each of his generals by name (of which there were a dozen) in a span of at most one minute is just tedious. Should have made it even longer then and released it in several parts.

Red army frontline troops were disciplined soldiers. When the second rate and rear echelon formations moved in things got out of control real fast.

Imagine the awkwardness for Hollywood if someone made a movie about victims of the Holocaust, with an arbitrarily diversified cast so that POC "feel represented"

I've done a great deal of research about ancient Greece and this is incredibly accurate of the people of that era. They even got their accents right.

Downfall is not really historically accurate, they all based it on the testimony of Hitler's secretary while a lot of the other survivors said she just made up shitloads of stuff and had no knowledge about most things.
