How can this happen?

How can this happen?

Or this?

...

>14 years old

holy fuck the contrast between the 1st and 2nd picture

...

>lapis originally
>slightly taller than steven

>lapis now
>same height as pearl

midget garnet

Cartooning.

Sorry about your autism btw.

Storyboarding was a mistake.

I miss tall Peridot, I miss her so much...

>people expecting SU to have art standards

Zuke.

retcon

More concerned over her personality getting revamped no less than 3 times now with the 4th time coming up.

Still not sure why they felt the need to change what was arguably break-out character of the century at all.

wasn't there an episode where Steven made himself bigger for Connie?
So he should actually be taller in canon than in previous seasons? and now he's a fucking midget?

This who care about that when the waifutard and the SJW will watch your shit anyway because of the lesbian space rock.

Why should the show's best character be forced to suffer such indignity

Peridot uprising when?

God dammit Peridot used to be so fucking sexy

Explain this to an outsider.

Is it like the Ken Penders of Samuel Galaxy?

YOU CAN SEE HIM GROWING UP RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES

that's why they needed to change her character design.

The shilly in universe explanation is that the gems are light projections and can change their size and shape at will. As they change their self perception they could change their physical appearance.

For steven we already had one episode where he can change his age (and physical appearance) at will, which was then promptly never brought up again.

The real answer is that they have no respect for "western patriarchal concepts" like consistency.

I'm so lad I'm not the only one who noticed this

Current peridot would look like a midget even with limb enchancers, or would have fore arms/legs unproportionaly long

The second Peri is just a fan interpretation of how she would look before being shown without her enhancers.

Anyway this is just inexcusable and Sugar should get a firmer attitude towards her workers.

Holy fuck.

No no no. Just a hack. Can't even compare to the likes of Penders whose presence has been known to give regular people legit autism.

>As they change their self perception they could change their physical appearance.

And since Steven's character is regressing, he's becoming smaller and more childlike.

somewhere inside me a macrophiliac cries

Needed to make her smaller so they can fit her in that shitty toilet joke.

Time Warner are too cheap to hire a sizable crew to make sure things are drawn to scale.

All their shows need to be made quickly for pocket change, or they'll take years to release (like Gumball or Venture Bros). It's sad how little faith they have in animation with how much money they blow trying to make DCEU a thing.

what the fuck's up with the bottom middle one? He looks a foot and a half tall

gotta desexualize these characters so people stop drawing porn of them

It's not even this. Sugar is just a damn hippie who thinks telling the storyboarders to draw in scale will "delude their artistic vision" or some shit. She actively encourages them to disregard models in favor of their own, unique style.

the Together Breakfast one made me burst out laughing

>The second Peri is just a fan interpretation of how she would look before being shown without her enhancers.

And the only one where her thighs didn't et shorter without them

WHEN WILL THEY LEARN

Well what did he do? Seems like an artist from the discussion?

That's some severe anti-Sonic Syndrome.

What does the show has against consistent character designs?

Also, is it true they fired the so called asian storyboarder? The one that did those fuckawful episodes earlier in the series?

...

You're a moron, it's well known Sugar let's her boarders retain their style and doesn't even bother giving them a model sheet to work with. The series could easily be on model of Sugar told her boarders to stay on model.

No, unregulated story boarding is retarded

And it still takes a fucking decade in between episodes that they just decide to air in random chunks that just get leaked anyways.

How can people stand keeping up with this? This is webcomic tier updating.

Should have said "It shows"

Ian left the show at that point

I believe he was the glue stopping it from going to shit

it's waning. ratings are getting weaker and weaker. I'm more upset they set up all this lore but filled it with so much town episodes. a few to buffer things sure but when you have nearly most of your 3rd and 4th season be townie fillers and nothing else it really kills interest in the show.

And what do you know about making a cartoon goyim? Just be glad it updates at all and buy all the blind bags, t-shirts, plushies and comic books.

Silly user, keeping on model is a bad thing!
That is what our black savoir has said.

Who else dropped this show but used to think it had so much potential?

I get what theyre doing with going off model, but thats horrendous

>This is what happens when you have a cartoon staffed with nuwomen

Whats the w cuse for constantly getting Peridots colour wrong?

She was sitting down in the first.

THE FUCKING FIFTH PICTURE OMG HE LOOKS LIKE A LIL BEAN

I dropped it because the focus clearly wasn't going to be on the alien gem shit. Just a 3-4 episode reminder "arc" that they still exist, then back to beach city.
Fuck Earth, that had some legitimately interesting ideas, but whatever.

I haven't yet, but I may in the future. I can only hope that the firing of Zuke means improvements to come.

Fuck me, Rocknaldo was just a terrible episode.

Season 5 Peridot

Havent seen Rocknaldo, what happened and why is it considered bad

THE FUCKING FIFTH PICTURE OMG HE LOOKS LIKE A LIL BEAN

Accurate tbqh fampai

“If you can recognize the character, it’s on model.”

-Kent Butterworth, AOSTH producer

comedy series =/= SoL/drama/whatever hybrid

but they have character models, the story board is not meant to be traced.

It's also part comedy.

*turu turu turu*

AOSTH was also very wackily animated, broke many animation principles in favor of things looking funny, and has a lot more visual whackiness going for it than Steven Universe "Every stands straight up and down and the contrast in drawings is obscene when viewed like this".

Also AOSTH is infamous for its crazy awkward, awful, off-model animation. That's part of why people love it. Steven is neither extreme enough to be "so bad it's good" nor expert enough to be on the cartooning levels of Ren & Stimpy or Bob Clampett toons.

I got a leaked picture of what they're gonna look like by the end of the series.

SU is not a straight up comedy series, it has no excuses for looking like shit such as or

I like the story, but the length between releases and the unprofessionalism vis a vis the art is mildly infuriating to say the least.

You know what, I still prefer this hot mess to the religious on-model doctrine that came before it.

The bright idea of folding animatics artist and writer into a single position? Not so much.

>series finale will be a three dots, black/red, green and purple, perfectly circle head pearl, and garnet with a dynamically changing afro fighting a large yellow giraffe while lapis sits in the corner complaining.

This really isn't new or anything.
We've seen it happening since the start of the show.

Frankly, it's been an improvement in some cases.
Connie became WAY cuter.
And Jasper's changes really helped make her more appealing as well.
Honestly, I prefer modern Steven too.

Everyone harps on Peri's changes, but most others have changed for the better.

You know it's encouraged by the staff to diversify the art style? It's no different than shows like Ren and Stimpy, Adventure Time, and Flapjack do.

her nose should be piglike since she went from hooked to sugar-ghoul already

>diversify the art style
nothing in this thread relates to style, it's all the same style, just not following the proportion charts.

As a big fan of AoStH, that rule doesn't apply to everything.

>it's okay to shrink them into little midget men

The problem is that these changes don't add anything to the show. It just makes things very inconsistent and confusing, and it can take you out of the episode.

If they want to diversify the art style, they have plenty of ways to do so, while still giving the show a uniform and consistent look. Corrupted Gems are especially great for this, because they have no consistent shapes and appearances - they could be whatever the aritsts want. And in that case, being corrupted would justify having different styles and inconsistencies.

but user, their characters are desexualized to begin with. the three main heroines have proportions that are generally not considered attractive.

Her smaller form is more energy efficient, granting her stronger ferrokenisis

I thought Steven wasn't growing up because of his powers.
Until he matures mentality he normal growth is stunned.

>Dumped some Peridot.

But we still have Zuke though!

No. Fuck you.

::insert those 1D representations of characters here::

They only really care about relative size, not proportional size.

Maybe for you, I don't really notice watching the show until people on the internet talk about. Regarding its impact on the show, it's rather inconsequential.

>relative size
isn't respected in any of those screenshots. Do you even understand those words, or are you just there to defend your show by copy pasting some shit from someone else?

>They only really care about relative size
But even that is ignored heavily. To the point where Steven needs a stool to reach a counter he could reach in season 1 and where he's half the height of Lapis when he originally met up to her chin? How are they following any of their own rules at all?

Eh, it's just the angle there really.

She still has her big indian jew nose.

>ended up being a shitty episode about them at a car wash with the most collateral damage being a broken sign
still disappointed. i wanted them to finally encounter one of the gem monsters.

What did they mean by this?

>Maybe for you, I don't really notice watching the show until people on the internet talk about. Regarding its impact on the show, it's rather inconsequential.
But it clearly has an impact for a lot of people if many people are talking about it and complaining.

If the show was properly on-model, you still wouldn't notice any problems, and no one would be complaining about it. "I didn't notice it" isn't really a good argument for defending it.

Wait, really? That's what it was about? I remember seeing the SUfags hyping the shit out of that episode. Must have been disappointed after that.

He was only ever up to her chin in that one shot. Ever other time, he's about half her height.

The "relative size" rule simply means that certain characters are shorter or taller than others.

But user how else would we know that Peridot has mastered her metal powers? By having her fight a monster???

>The "relative size" rule simply means that certain characters are shorter or taller than others.
stop rewriting the meaning of words.

I don't even know if Steven is taller than Peridot or the other way around.

Peridot's always taller.

I think he's supposed to be taller, since he was about the size of a twelve year old at the start of the show, give or take some inches, but I don't know anymore.

So you're saying him being too tall was a mistake for height proportions, not him being too small?

Because that still supports "This show sucks as height consistency".

But again that's something they don't pay much mind to by stylistic choice aside from Lapis simply being taller than Steven.

i find the 3rd and 6th picture fucking hilarious, he needs a stool to reach a board he could previously reach easily
