tomoatometer is stupid for two reasons:

1-it considers the opinions of glorified bloggers not actual film critics
2- it's a binary system. A movie considered a 6/10 by everyone is going to score a perfect 100% on that stupid fucking website. While a movie considered a 10/10 by 90 critics out of 100 and a 5/10 by the remaining ones is going to score lower. It's stupid as shit

There's an audience for something like this. Right now there's noone else making that type of hyper masculine, hyper gritty grindhouse schlock. Doesn't do much for me either but I get it.

Seagal would never stoop so low to have such appalling practical "effects", it's a meme movie which Sup Forums have swallowed hook line and sinker merely repeating what they have already read, the same with all the RT scores and imdb. This would be a straight to DVD bargain bucket movies if it came out 10 years ago, it's absolute trash in every single way.

Believe me I've watched it and I wish I hadn't, I was expecting an actual prison film which it was seeming to deliver at the start then it went to the bizarre dungeon with the black-clad manlet private security guards and a ridiculous cigar smoking paramilitary prison warden. Don't even get me started on the special effects or the scene with the M16 in the bush.

It's mostly an awkward single shot that's clearly done due to budget constants, the fighting looks extremely artificial and unrealistic.

I dunno, I never had a problem with it when watching the movie at all. Martial arts are so fucking unrealistic it hurts, and yet action movies have crammed that shit in for decades.

I mean martial arts don't actually work in real fights. The only reason they ever became popular in the first place is because they look 'cool', not because they're effective at taking down people.

That movie was pure kino out of nowhere. I love it when you expect total shit and suddenly two hours have gone by and you want more.

This was OK. It wasn't bad or anything, but it's definitely low-test compared to Brawl. The protagonist in Brawl destroys himself fighting for his family because he has no choice, the protagonist in Shot Caller ends up destroying himself to no greater purpose. It's more realistic, sure, but it's so joyless and there's not much I really took from it other than that being in prison sucks.

Chopper is still the best prison movie I've seen.

I'm confused. I have no idea what real "martial arts" should look like, but I get the impression that that entire fight was choreographed by imitating martial arts positions. It looks fake as fuck because of how it looks like a "cliche" "martial arts" fight, even thought you can watch any kung-fu movie and you'll probably find better looking, more realistic fights than what you would see in this movie.

It looks like boxing, which is what it's supposed to look like.

Jacob in Shot Caller had a very clear goal which btw is the same Bradley has in Brawl except Jacob was smart enough to realise the wrath of the prison gang before it even happened where Bradley was simply too stupid to figure out that killing and wounding two members of a Mexican cartel will sign a death sentence on him and his family. Shot Caller maintained high levels of testosterone while being thinking's man kino which is the real alpha and omega of all Chads.
