OK Sup Forums, I've read the majority of the "big" Batman stories - recommend me some lesser known, also awesome Batman stories.

Preferably without extended Batfamily bollocks, preferably early in his career.

Hit me.

Batman: Ego

>recommend me
Nope. It's on you to find something to read. Out with you, shoo.

Shut the fuck up.

Anyways, have you read Bane of the Demon, No Man's Land or Vengeance of Bane? If not, well, go for it.

Ego and No Man's Land get recommended all the time. He's likely already read those.

Kill yourself. This isn't the literary equivalent to a soup kitchen. You are being highly intrusive by making this thread, and contributing to the overall decline of this board.

Search bar is right there in the upper right. It'll take you five minutes at most to find something. Now get out.

>asking for recommendations is bad because I say so

Legends of the dark Knight

It's bad because it represents a lack of barrier to entry into the community. Sup Forums is fucking awful because we've become complacent in tolerating casuals who don't know shit about comics and don't actually care, the majority being surface "fans" brought in by movies and television. These people are only really interested in power level wank, and I must harp on this point, do not actually care about comic books. If they did, they'd just look up something to read instead of barging in and demanding titles.

By indulging in rec requests, we allow these undesirable elements into our board, and they run rampant with shitposting. What we need to do is make a long term showing that Sup Forums prides itself on well informed conversation, and thus will not tolerate ignorance of the subject. But sadly, nobody here is willing to do that due to the archaic "Sup Forums is love/ mnemonic, and, frankly, the fact casuals have infected the board near terminally with waifuism and VS wank.

It may very well be too late, but we can at least try to close the gate and prevent further flooding. If you're willing to put forth an effort.

10 Nights of the Beast?

I like you, and I must add, Sup Forums is mocked as the dumbest interest board thanks to those Casuals, comics used to be a need hobby, now we are filled with people that literally is only attracted to power level shit and that everything they read has pictures on. We have people triggered over the word nigger and special snowflakes that react against every shit post by crying Sup Forums instead of being hostile. This board is too tolerant and friendly with Casuals, Sup Forumsmblr is more prone to react to people mad about a race swap than Sup Forums to make Casualss feel unwelcome, and that is a shame.

People like you are part of the reason why the industry is slowly dying.

Sup Forums pls go be retarded somewhere else

Exactly. All I ask is that we impose some kind of quality standard within our community, so that we might actually have some civil discussion about comics and cartoons. It's utterly baffling that this simple idea seems far too much to ask.

But, we can start regulating our community a little by insisting that newcomers be well informed of the subject matter before posting. Nothing unreasonable like demanding they read all 70+ years of any given character's history, just that they know their shit enough to already know what to look for.

And it's also for said newcomers own good. Relying on the opinions of others is just foolish. It is up to the individual to figure out what they like and what books would appeal to them, without outside influence.

But it isn't dying you mouthbreathing retard, for the last 17 years (superhero) comics have only gotten bigger, even if you only count the floppies, and ignore the trades, omni and digital markets.
Nevermind the Image boom, and the renovation of all the other "indie" publishers.

Ignore the retarded crossboarder from Sup Forums who doesn't understand how comics work.

Long Halloween.

Venom

Strange Apparitions

Tales of the Demon

Batman and the Monster Men

Batman and the Mad Monk

Those should give you a bit more of what you're looking for.

>how comics work
>having absolutely no quality standards whatsoever is an intrinsic part of comic books
Sure explains a lot, like why there are people who unironically love Identity Crisis. But letting people like that infest our board is fine because Sup Forums is love, right? And we're a hivemind, so nobody within Sup Forums could ever have a problem with the way things are, right? Idiot.

Comics are intimidating as fuck to get into if you don't start when you're like 12. Seeking the opinions of people here rather than some ign top 10 list is also more likely to get you a good recommendation.

Sure his distaste for batfamily is disgusting normie thinking but eh. I'm always happy to see more people actually reading comics instead of reading wiki articles summarizing them.

Also you that same faggot who is really angry about those Looney Tunes one shots?

But Batfamily is big among normies, plebbit and tumblr.

I'm not talking about your "I like art of Robins being cute but don't read comics" normie. True Normies think of those as sick freaks if they think about them at all. I'm talking people who don't know any if the Robins by name or think Aquaman is lame.

City of Crime.

...

>comics are intimidating
No they're not. Anyone who says that is a lazy idiot. I got started by picking up something that looked interesting, and from there I looked up more stuff to read. I didn't go by any recommendations, didn't need any handholding, and I damn sure didn't let anyone control my opinion.

It's literally that easy. And if what you picked up sucked, try something else. Frankly, I'd prefer someone get turned off from comics altogether rather than become a mindless hive drone repeating some canned pre-approved statements of quality with no actual thoughts of their own.

And speaking of avoiding hivemind shit, I still maintain that, and crossovers in general, is an awful idea. And come at with whatever garbage about how the industry is built on crossovers. The concept of the shared universe is flawed because there's less of a chance for individual characters to stand on their own. As we have seen many times, these characters existing in the same space only invites unfair comparisons and makes it so that less popular characters are often grafted on to bigger names that will inevitably overshadow them.

It might be worth prefacing these recs with the fact that I hate the majority of popular Batman comics, particularly those published after Knightfall

>Brave and the Bold by Jim Aparo and Bob Haney
Basically the perfect superhero comic. The most "weird dc" thing ever published.

> Detective Comics issues written AND drawn by Frank Robbins
There are only a few of these sprinkled throughout the early 400s. Capes as kinetic, deranged art brut.

>Detective Comics edited by Archie Goodwin
If you get the original issues they're 100 page issues with cool golden and silver age reprints. "New" art by Simonson, Toth, Aparo.

You are the real life comic book guy from the simpsons.

Get some help user. let love back into your heart.

Op here, fuck you lot got busy whilst I was at work didn't you?

Cheers to anons who helped, I'll check your recommendations for those slightly less known works. Commiserations to those who wasted effort getting mad about their little club being infiltrated by someone who's only read 60 or 70 Batman comics; what's the benchmark to be allowed to talk about comics on Sup Forums?

I'm and I was with you, then you shit talked the Looney Toones crossover, fuck you, the Elmer Fudd/Batman crossover will be amazing, if you don't want a shared universe go read non-Big Two or Valiant stuff, you sperg.

>what's the benchmark to be allowed to talk about comics on Sup Forums?
Knowing enough that you don't "need" to ask for recs in the first place. You can easily just google this shit, and not waste everyone's time holding your hand.

If you really have read as many books as you claim, you should already be aware of other stuff you can pick up, you filthy liar.

If you've read "the majority of the "big" Batman stories" you should be able to find more comics that you'll likes.

And here we go, here come the fuckin' crossover defense league. Let me guess, you think this whole stupid pile of nonsense will be "fun", right? It's always the same bullshit with you people.

Crossovers, the shared universe concept included, are inherently garbage since characters should stand on their own. If they all exist in relation each other, they simply cannot do that. But then, I already explained this and you refused to listen because you're a fuckin' idiot.

Nu-uh, you're the dummy here. I have read and bought more comics than you. Betcha I have more diverse and sophisticated taste too. If you want standalone stories, read standalone stories, it's really wonderful how you can just make you own choices on the big catalogue of comics being published right now. :)

I used to think you were an annoying autist every time you sperged out in rec thread, but seeing what Sup Forums became in the last 2 years made me reconsider.

Godspeed, angry user. At last I truly see.

Most comics today are just "fun". The British invasion ended long back.

There aren't any current books that are completely standalone, you dolt. At least none that I'm gonna read. Fuck that Hanna Barbera whoreshit. And even then, I am so burned out on cape books that it's not even worth slogging through the current crap I'm not already reading.

So what are you reading? Anything you actually like?

Sorry to hear you're getting burned out, though I guess it explains some of the anger issues, sometimes it's good to just take a break, you know? If you're not already reading them, I recommend you check out Descender, East of West and of course more Stray Bullets is always a good pick. If you're that adamant about Marvel and DC without crossovers, the first Wild Storm issue was really fun!

>trying to trick me into technically giving out recs
Nigga, get outta here with that shit, you ain't slick.

And you can just fuck off. I'm not going to read any of that shit, I got principles, dammit.

Ok, but reading Marvel and DC and getting mad when they use the shared universe is like watching porn and getting mad when you see cocks, pussy, ass or even hear moaning.

...

Not like I got much choice. What would you have me do, read something from Image? I'd sooner staple my dick to a burning log. And don't you even dare mention indieshit, cause fuck that hipster trash.

Go fuck yourself Sup Forumsmblr, lurk more is the basis for a good board

>>>Continuity is bad because crossovers are shit

>>>I hate all companies except the two that predominately feature shared universes

>>>people who haven't read tons of Marvel and DC are subhuman casuals

>>>I refuse to say what comics I actually like.

You have built your cage if unhappiness yourself as the only comics you can possibly like are standalone elseworlds.

>lurk more is the basis for a good board
It doesn't work. Sup Forums still applies that principle and that board went to shit anyway

Remember a time when Sup Forums was the elitist board and Sup Forums was the board who would be all too happy to answer red threads with each user contributing their favourite arcs?

Remember Comraderecs?

If you refuse to read comics without crossover, then yeah, I guess you don't have much choice outside of being absolutely miserable. How hipster can Image be, when they have the hugest mainstream show on TV and move as much merch as Marvel and DC? Fuck, they literally started with all of the biggest names making blockbuster comics. But whatever, maybe just try a different hobby.

...

Those are terrible.

Every board is and was elitist, it's better to be elitist and shitty than being considered a joke pleb board that happens to also be shit

And despite all that, I still manage to find stuff to read. It's not current, but still. And I don't ask for any handouts, I just look up titles within whatever genre I'm in the mood for, and pick something.

I don't refuse to read books with crossover, I just wish they didn't have that element. Sometimes you gotta play the game, even if the game sucks.

I disagree completely.

We're already filled with live action threads, I wouldn't mind the odd thread discussing comics.

Not him but its retarded, he could had made a what are your favorite batman writers or arcs thread, he could had have the same information and do something that could eventually be an interesting thread, instead of that he is asking for change outside a mall. Fuck pleb enablers

That's the other thing about recshit. They never lead to any discussion. It's always just "gimme titles and fuck off".

Excuse me, but I was under the impression that the point of this board was to talk about comics and cartoons, not to be everyone's personal reading guide. Y'know, Sup Forums has a permanent sticky making it quite clear that the board isn't a fucking tech support line. We need something like that.

Gotham Knights
Also I really like the joker origin from Batman confidential, but some people don't

Do you have a google alert for every time someone says the word "recommend" on this board? You freaked out a few days ago when someone asked for Wildstorm recommendations and for "women led books"

If we dont, then they'll keep having shit taste and only read what the big 2 recommend.

I possess a great power few on this board share.

I have the incredible ability to... pay attention! (DUN DUN DUUUUUH!)

Going Sane by DeMatteis is a good one. It's about Joker, well, going sane after he thinks he has killed Batman.
Also Scott Snyder ripped it off in a shitty way.

Yes, because Sup Forums is well known for having impeccable taste. (That was sarcasm, by the way. Thought I'd tell you since you're too stupid to notice.

Besides, one should find material while unmolested by outside opinions.

Is that a codeword for social security and pissbottles?

It's not code for anything. When something relevant to my interests comes up, I tend to notice it.

Sad!

Dark Knight Returns.

Dini's Detective Comics run
