JSA Storytime: Manhunter

Good evening owls,

Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd

so what was good this past Wednesday other than mai waifu/vodka OTP

Nightwing got multiversy

Also that Serbian Sunstone artist is gonna be on Aquaman so both Arthur and Mera will be sexy

Hello, Storyteller.

We now return to Single Female Lawyer, starting Kate Spencer.

lol, I was just sending that thread to a friend

Apparently you say his last name something like SHEH-jich

~single female lawyer, fighting for her clients~

OP is almost as much of a faggot as cranky.

I think it's his time of the month. He was everywhere today.

>mai waifu/vodka OTP
What was that?

I see one of our crazy fucks has been running OMD

Zealot saying "yes, I'll have that drink" in Wild Storm

Literally everywhere. That was Cranky in the crossover and rec threads, right?

Evening storyteller.

Batwoman's been surprisingly decent so far though the art is definitely carrying the writing.

SO speaking of Wild Storm Kenesha is clearly Savant, and 'John' is most likely John Colt/Spartan, yes?

I just want one owl joke in there somewhere

I saw some sharp commentary on the "Snyderlings overwriting and need to get out of the way of the art" front, but I didn't read it

People are going fucking nuts about that, huh? I gotta say I don't really get it.

I quite like Sunstone because like a good melodrama/romance thing you can easily get caught up in the emotional pace of it but I don't see his art as the gold standard of sexy or anything. And I hope he never gets to input on Ivy.

god Kate was hot

This variant cover has made me feel oddly gleeful.
YAAAS KING, SLAY

Undoubtedly.

In the Wildstorm thread too.

So I was right? That was a very you page?

this is my kink and I am not ashamed

I think it's less overwritten and more Bennett being forced by editorial to keep some of her more annoying writing quirks in check.

it was a 100% me page and I'm loving JDH's Zealot, although I hope we also get her less buttoned up and in costume

>Preview of next week's BLACK PANTHER, which begins with (surprise) a bunch of people sitting in a circle and talking

LOL

We're definitely gonna get bondage, but we might manage to avoid an entire song written out on-panel and a "much brand" shopping trip.

Wild Storm was good

my body isn't ready for Sejic Aquaman & Mera

I am also glad that it looks like Fixer, Karla and Atlas seem to be escaping into Spencer's arms. Not to mention them appearing in a book with actually decent art.

You're an owl, user. We all like that cover, or we should.

I really liked the Wildstorm #2. It's still set-up but I feel like we've got a much clearer idea of the payoff now.

The confluence of Voodoo into Lady Gaga Infowars shit and the actual Kherubim/Daemonites thing is amazing.

my kingdom for Helmut stabbing Bucky then he and Steve finally getting to consummate their love (as adults, instead of in Hydra boarding school)

I hope he gives us at least a little of what that dynamic ought to be--Fixer and Karla fighting it out in their usual way, Atlas kind of "Should I really be here?"

>my body isn't ready for Sejic Aquaman & Mera
Please explain this to me senpai. Is it just because cape comics usually aren't very good at sexy?

I'm just very fond of the way he draws them, I'm not sure what needs explaining

...

JD-H might eventually do skimpier stuff, but he seems to like tight jumpsuits

Fair enough. I'm interested in how it's gonna be as a full comic, I just don't really get the mouth-frothing praise.

I'm conflicted, on one hand Bendis but on the other schadenfreude

Here's the thread on the Snyderlings

twitter.com/OliverSava/status/842238768295886848

Yeah, I saw them trying to drag Bendis to which I lol'ed, he has no actual shame/better people than this have tried

>Bendis getting shat on

MORE

>The status quo changed in my comics!

I like Sejic's Mera quite a bit and he's got a good grasp on the fun side of sexy--what I don't know about so much are his sequentials, which in an unrelated way a lot of artists like Lieber have been talking about lately (i.e., draw them and not just pinups if you want a job in COMICS)

>tfw Steve and Helmut make out while Helmut is still covered in Bucky's blood.

I hope so, Spencer at least has a better track-record with them than Zub. And I may be projecting but I get the impression that Spencer likes the Bolts a lot but doesn't care about Bucky all that much beyond him being a prop for Zemo's character regression or development.

Zubbolts has made me loathe Bucky so much.

Speaking of Snyderlings, how long until Bennett gets an exclusive?

Higgins didn't get one, but on the other hand, Tynion did.
Can't remember if Fawkes was a Snyderling or not but he's not exclusive either.

The latest 2000AD prog had the final part of Kingmaker: Book One, which is the series about aliens invading and enslaving Middle Earth, and a measly orc captain teaming up with a withered old wizard to quest for a secret power to beat the invaders back. It was grand.

What happened in Ms. marvel that people were freaking out about (that I saw with some of the Angela stuff)? If it was just "queer drama wherein someone doesn't get paired off immediately", I'm all FOR that.

Agree--I think Spencer finds Bucky not terribly interesting, but the Bolts dynamic is catnip and there's a level of affection there that goes beyond just "they're cool".

this is an effective page

>that fucking rocket stick
Dammit, I am trying to enjoy this. I'm even warming up to Kate, because I was being massively unfair to her before. But that goddamn effect is making it really damn hard.

Kate, for fucks sake, get a jetpack or something.

I'll admit I've had a very small sampling of Sejic's interior art but I enjoyed what I've seen

not the best example of action or layouts but I can't find my cbr for this issue

I mean, I'm glad people are giving Bendis shit for his crap writing, but shit like this makes me lose hope that Hulkling and Wiccan will EVER break up, or at least seperate long enough for Teddy to have some solo stories.

My personal solution would be for her to just start surfing on it.

>but shit like this makes me lose hope that Hulkling and Wiccan will EVER break up
easy solution there, just put them in a Bendis book!

Head Lopper was cool. MacLean's art is evolving, which is always a treat to see.

On the one hand Bendis had this coming for a long time. On the other hand I recognize quite a few of these people from other shitstorms and remember them as absolutely insufferable and obnoxious rage junkies.

One of the people screencapped in that thread also went on a rant about how Not Okay it is to drag out something that could be problematic/wrong for four issues and then resolve it in the fifth. Sigh.

She ought to ride it like a witch's broom.

>less willing to hire someone who's just drawn actual porn.
Otto?

Todd Rice, Mr. Gay Exposition

that last panel is a treasure

>What happened in Ms. marvel that people were freaking out about (that I saw with some of the Angela stuff)?

The white girl bully early on turned out to be a lesbian (which was made clear to the readers months ago), had a thing for Kamala's Muslim friend (which was implied for just as long, but only just was made clear to Kamala), and lesbian confessed to Muslim girl that she liked her.

Muslim girl's response was basically "You're brave for this, but I'm not a lesbian. I'll still be your friend though."

I'm summing it up, but it's surprisingly not shit, unless you're the kind of fuckwit who thinks every lesbian deserves her lesbian love interest.

>that Tumblr post
Whoa, straight up hate speech. I wish I could say that's a new one.

Also, Bendis disabled the option of asking him questions anonymously in Tumblr lol

>If it was just "queer drama wherein someone doesn't get paired off immediately", I'm all FOR that.

It's literally just that. One of Kamala's supporting characters is a lesbian who came out to her crush in a fairly touching scene where her crush let her down gently but is 100% supportive of her.

This is of course horribly homophobic to these people because it's not pure wish fulfillment.

With few exceptions (they break up on the last page of one issue, and resolve it in the first few pages of literally the next issue), that's a bullshit complaint.

It's funny because it's true

Oh, I missed the Marvel bit. They seem more into webcomic/fan artists than the many talented people working in porn, sadly.

That sounds surprisingly relevant to the book's audience's interests, too. And not badly done.

Yeah but for some reason I was thinking Sejic was doing work for Marvel, not DC. Ignore me.

It's fascinating to me because of how it renders endgame/resolution everything and completely crushes the experience of reading something ongoing and the emotional rollercoaster. Now, it can be shittily done and exploitative, but isn't experience what we read for, most of us? Lemme see if I saved a chunk of the argument because the OP is a spammy fucker and I'm lazy.

It reminds me for how a lot of criticism of Hydra Cap boils down to 'Spencer is a bad person for not giving people their self-indulgent wish fulfillment' or how it's bad for a story to be dark at all because it upsets people. Same with Jill Thompson's Wonder Woman book.

>Oh, I missed the Marvel bit. They seem more into webcomic/fan artists than the many talented people working in porn, sadly.
>Marvel hires Henderson tier webcomic artists
>DC hires futa and BDSM porn artists and mentions the porn comic in the press statement
bless

It's so hard for me to imagine the fiction these people enjoy.

I despise Bendis' writing but calling him subhuman vermin is a bit...much.

I at least respect the argument about Hydra Cap that says "I'm into stories like this for the h/c resolution, not the tension" because it's clear about why it's not For Them. Okay, this is the line about the other:

>Now I am confident there is some exceptions but in general you need to understand the effect of what you do in your single issue. Who are U hurting. Like if the relationship in your comic matters a lot to readers and the plan is to break them up then get them back together over 5 issues is it worth hurting your readers for 4 issues so you can feel all artist when they are back on issue 5? Gotta think of how stories effect your consumer base and fans. Respect your readers and their money too.

The results of this thinking are not good.

It's kinda just a different strain of "If *I* were writing Spider-Man..." isn't it?

Maybe it comes from a fear of losing your audience/losing your series, so some writers, especially those without serialized comic book experience, throw everything in as quickly as possible and hope it sticks. And once the audience gets used to that kind of instant gratification, anything different becomes grating.
And this is coming from someone who despises decompression and too-long arcs.

The OG Phantom Lady!

These are the kind of people for whom anything that's not 100% shallow wish fulfillment = oppressive.

That's not even the part that gets me, but rather the one saying all straight charaters (and by extension, all straight people) are worthless pieces of shit. Like, goddamn. Somebody's got issues...

In this case it's coming from the perspective of "Bad things happen to oppressed people IRL and I don't want any of that in my fiction, and I'm going to equate it to actual violence".

It's funny because in that Mary Sue thread today, I actually agree that it's annoying that female characters get less put through the wringer than men do.

>so you can feel all artist
Yeah, because stretching drama is fine art. This is what really gets my goat about this stuff. This isn't "artistic", this is just comic book storytelling 101. Hell, this is storytelling 101. Journey, hardships, difficulties, conflict, awesome resolution at the end.
>Gotta think of how stories effect your consumer base and fans. Respect your readers and their money too.
In other words, "gimme what I want fast as you can or go fuck yourself."

>JSA intensifies

It's the kind of thinking that stiffles what kind of stories you can tell with diverse characters or hell, in general.

>is it worth hurting your readers for 4 issues so you can feel all artist when they are back on issue 5?
>I don't understand how fiction, resolution and climax work!

I am here for queer relationships having the same range of variety that straight people get

also, for an A-list female character with no bullshit romance plots at all

Is it? Being in a similar situation of taste, it's pretty easy to guess what they read. They read the same shit everyone else is, because they have no choice. Oh sure, they'll be very vocal about hating the majority of stiff, but they'll still read it and judge the books on their own terms, probably enjoying a good chunk of the material. Cause really it boils down to "Do you want to read comic books or not?". You either play the game or find something else to do.

You can tell Al is a softie because he's the only one with a bowtie.

what's up thread i'm missing a lot of!

comics were really good this week.

that anti-bendis tumblr post about sera and angela reads like parody and it makes me feel bad

Manga can be both a lot better and a lot worse for that.

That literally was the logic of the guy who writes Dumbing of Age.

>is it worth hurting your readers for 4 issues so you can feel all artist when they are back on issue 5?
Hahahaha Nigga Just Walk Away From The Comic Book Like Nigga Close Your Eyes Haha

i think Andy Khouri is taking over editing it which makes me mad bc now i gotta check it out

same with Seeley doing a fucking steve trevor book

it is literally what got Gail Simone run off s_d, this line of thought

Lemme just say that using Iron Munro here is a real DC nerd dive, but I love it.

I've seen that tumblr person before, that is 100% a back away slowly situation

DC Khomics has been bretty good

I can only imagine preschool shows.

>Jack Knight reference

youtube.com/watch?v=YPwtJ89jes4

I don't have her yet but I dig this Carol outfit from the mobile game

There's not enough LGBTQ representation on Teletubbies.

That tumblr person is over the top unpleasant and completely batshit.

Well, what do you want? Why is it offensive when something isn't what is wanted?

There's definitely low-stakes, SoL sorta stuff coming from comics right now. I just can't imagine having this opinion on fiction as a whole. What did you read/watch/listen to growing up?

Well, Angela: Queen of Hel, wherein everything ended perfectly and okay for our fourth-wall breaking heroines

it's sexy but not ridiculous bodytape

Awww, this page... I love this page.

Is this sharing an artistic team with Infinite Crisis? Because if so this could (will) end very tragically.

>it is literally what got Gail Simone run off s_d, this line of thought
oh, I 'member

Robinson pulling her into Starman might be my favorite deep cut of the series

Holy shit that avatar/name/post combination.

...

WB Games makes it but I don't know about the specifics. Mobile games in general don't tend to last long though.

I wish people didn't self insert as much when reading comics...
