Akira

I like Akira more because of he setting and themes... now if it was Nausicaa...

Akira.

The plot is more important, our reality is mirroring its fiction.

Spirited away is the most overrated anime out there

I have just seen a lot of people in the anime world saying that Spirited Away is better, and that Akira is just a generic sci-fi movie. Are they just plebs or are they right?

There's no debate sorry.

Akira is way more iconic

Akira would have been kino had they put the mind rape (literal) scene in.

Akira has inspired to much fiction that in the popular zeitgeist people are more familar with what it spawned, and because of that the original ends up looking derivative.

They are probably just being contrarian because Akira is the most well known.

He may be a little biased

Spirited away is better

Akira is fedora core

LOOK AT THIS DUDE! LOOK AT HIS FACE! OH NO NO NO NO NOO AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Literally blade runner

It got a little too dragon ball for me near the end, but overall pretty solid

neither are as good as ghost in the shell.

I have never watched Clockwork Orange, but now I know it's trash

akira is for fun and entertanment

chihiro is for the HEART and SOUL

Spirited Away is possibly my least favorite Miyazaki film. I've never seen what everyone else seems to see in it.

Spirited Away is much better as a whole while Akira looks amazing (except for the characters which look like complete garbage) but suffers because it's forgettable characters and shit story.

>Literally blade runner

nah, the multi-layered cityscape with its gigantic highways is more reminiscent of 50s retrofuturism, the bikes are purely japanese designs, the rest is just tokyo.

it is

This.

No. Akira just copied Blade Runner.

Akira is gorgeous but boring and overrated. They didn’t have enough time to fit the entire story

Okay, aside from similar sci-fi cityscapes how exactly?

>the bikes are purely japanese designs
No. They clearly ripped off Syd Mead.

T H I S

bmup

...

I mean, that's all I was referring to.

Prove it my ninja

So is Blade Runner a rip-off of Metropolis or something then?

Done.

A little bit

Very unlikely given that the manga and the movie came out like 5 months apart from each other

It all comes down to being a rip-off of the Bible

spirited away :)

Did you know Blade Runner invented the cyberpunk genre right?

And that's a rip of of older pagan texts! Where does it end?!

Both are shit.
Kill yourself, weebs.
ALL anime is S H I T.

they're both middling
satoshi kon and miyazaki's other work are the best

Take that back, edgelord.

My absolute niBBa. I run a D&D game where the setting is heavily influenced by Nausicaa.

I personally prefer spirited away, but love both films. I also don't think they're comparable being in two totally different genres

Yeah

Harmony (2015) is better than both of those.

I've never been able to date that image but I've heard it suggested that actually came AFTER Akira.

REALLY?

Add to that The Long Tomorrow by Moebius.
Acknowledged.
And that's fine, is the genre.

Mr. West is right. Spirited is amazin, gorgeous, but akira wins in story, characters, technique, scope, atmosphere and originality.
By a little bit, mind it. But is ahead.

Spirited Away has the artistic equivalence of a Naruto episode, with prettier set pieces.

It's like Fantasia if Fantasia was awful.

I mean, it’s true. The Bible is just the Tanakh remade into a more marketable trilogy (Old, New Testament and Dead Sea Scrolls)

I Can't imagine being so dense and so lonely you make posts like this
