So can we all agree that, while he's no replacement for Mako, he's still fine?

Yeah. He's alright, but no one can replace Mako.

I wanna hear him do the laugh

he's fine, not perfect but Greg is the best for the job and I'll get used to it.

I think he's fine, it's the writing that matters

Yes. Im pretty sure hes the closest we got. Dude studied

Same as in Avatar: he's perfectly fine, he's just no Mako. He holds back too much, needs to overexaggerate.

I forgot the voice since the rest of the episode was KINO

link to new episode?

He aint no mako but he makes for a great aku regardless.

Ehh, 5/10. New VA's trying though.

Yeah he's fine. Probably the best we gonna get.

It takes time to get used to the voice.

Also, did he sound off as Iroh during Korra? It seemed pretty good during Avatar.

dailymotion.com/video/x5f7s40_xciii_tv

For some lines it felt like he was on point, but a majority of them sounded really off. Nevertheless his voice'll suffice.

dailymotion.com/video/x5f7s40_xciii_tv

Iroh was much calmer though. Easier to do. Aku is flamboyant and loud. Amplifies the differences.

i think it definitely mattered how aku`s first introduction in the new season would be.
and i`m so glad it was hilarious

I feel like he could do better but it's alright, he just needs to be a little more exaggerated and maybe make his voice a little deeper. Other than that, 10/10 Kino Genndy is a genius and Aku deserves his own show, don't even have a problem with shilling for him right now.

>yfw youtube.com/watch?v=nOr0na6mKJQ

I just about busted a nut.

The way I see it, you can go out and try to find some dude whose voice sounds like Mako, or who does a good impersonation, but he probably won't be a good voice actor.
Or you can get someone who sounds noticeably different, but nails the mannerisms and character.
Baldwin is the second and I think it was the right choice.

dotandline.net/samurai-jack-greg-baldwin-new-aku-interview-mako-21ee0139bd34?gi=2a5c59c7551d

Interview with Baldwin. He says he recorded lines for 7 out of the 10 episodes, so that means Aku (or at least his voice) will be in 5 more episodes this season.

Also
>Baldwin never met Mako
What the flying fuck? That completely threw me off. Hasn't that stuff about him being Mako's student been around for like a decade?

Yeah. There was never going to be a replacement for Mako, if that's what you were hoping for the issue is with your expectations. He was mourned for a reason, the man was a legend. No one will ever come close.

What we have will do the job. The fact that the best they could do isn't even close to Mako's perfection is a testament to Mako's legacy.

It felt off in Korra to me.

The fact that Aku is feeling depressed right now works in Baldwin's favor. He hasn't had a need to be loud and bombastic and honestly I don't think he'll be able to pull it off.

Everyone is "noticeably different" from Mako, though.

>my feet hurt
>do i even have feet?
>Scaramouche hasn't called me back
>im so depress my voice changed
>why am i getting hit with child support bills?
>Jack wont die
>I'm tired

This and it feels like hes trying to do the voice from the throat when that shit comes from the chest

So is this an animation error or what?

Oh fuck! They messed up!

secret twist

DAMNIT GENNDY YOU MADE 8 THAT'S 1 TOO MANY

Pretty sure he also voiced Iroh in ATLA Book 3.

>they find a circular assortment of coffins
>song similar to The Ecstasy of Gold starts playing
What did they mean by this?

he sounded oddly russian at times but still better than I thought he would.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=QMQiMosF1B0

Sounds like Strongbad.

It's in the new opener.

He sounds Mexican.

>this is just a joke scene
>I still end up being autistic and wondering if this separate Aku is another piece of the evil that survived and fell to Earth

came here to post this
he sounds mexican not japanese

Aku duplicated himself before, during his fight with Jack's father.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that.

>What did they mean by this?
Probably that Ennio Morricone is awesome.

he's alright... his yellow peril accent sometimes slips into mexican every once in a while though,

can never replace greatness

Good catch!

The actual voice is the only thing a little off, and that was always a given. What struck me was how accurate he was with the intonation and pacing of the lines. The way he speaks is almost exactly the same as Mako even without having his voice, I can see why he was decided upon.

Eh, it's not as grandiose as Mako. I'm just glad he at least sounds a bit decent for this.

Obviously not as good as mako, but he did better than I expected

For some reason he kinda sounds like mr krabbs in my head though

>tfw ANOTHER one of your flamboyant assassins die

I sincerely liked him better than before. I don't know. I am really glad this scene was the way it was. Of they changed Aku into an evil edgelord who would only show up in the last episode, it would have been lame and unfaithful to the character. Genndy really knows how to pull this off.

Anyone else also glad they did it the way they did. I was feeling really worried of how they'd do it. I thought this season had to take itself more seriously than the rest of the show and that an Aku who is an edgelord would be needed. Yet, it would feel like a stretch from the rest of the series. In the end, they decided to keep him the way he was, and it was awesome.

I never noticed the change with Iroh, would have to go back and compare to hear the difference.

With Aku it's really noticeable and I was distracted in the scene where he's talking to the scientists just because I was hearing the new voice

But I accept it for what it is. It's the same character and close enough. Couldn't have expected it to be perfect.

Pretty stoked that they cleared up a couple of key plot points

>Aku has definitively destroyed all the time portals
>Aku doesn't know Jack has lost his sword

>Yfw Aku opens the drawer and puts his GREAT FLAMING EYEBROWS on

It's okay, not as seamless as Iroh.

I thought it was the best way to introduce Aku again in 15 years. Damn though, 50 years can chill a being of evil out.

...

poor doggarino :(

At least he didn't say the old Aku is dead

>So can we all agree that, while he's no replacement for Mako, he's still fine?

No. He blew his lines so hard. His accent is somewhere between Mexican and Japanese.

>Yes....
You can tell by the animation that this line was meant for Mako's "YeeeeEEEEEeeeeeEeeeesSssSSSsss" but all we get is a tiny little "yes."

Genndy should have whipped him with a garden hose.

Samurai Jack is a well-balanced mixture of ambient scene-setting, action, and comedy.
If even one of those elements were missing it couldn't have the decency to be called Samurai Jack.

Aku isn't Mexican OR Japanese, he's from space. Watch the damn show.

Damn what a good episode.

The sword of time will pierce our skins
It doesn't hurt when it begins
But as it works its way on in
The pain grows stronger...watch it grin
But suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please

Can someone go back and make an audio library of Mako/Aku so that we can just redub over Baldwin's lines?

>space mexicans
how horrifying

suborbital wall when?

I personally feel he was pretty decent, but he was a bit too low energy. He could have big hammed it up and been louder, but he played it safe

>tfw no Mako YEEEEEESSSSSSSSS and obnoxious laugh that makes you laugh with him even if a bad thing is happening in the show for the hero

It's not perfect, but it still feels like it fits Aku's character. I don't mind having this voice for the last season.

>I have to wait an entire fucking week for another episode
LIFE
IS
P A I N

I think he did well.

I know a lot of people are upset that he wasn't as over the top as Mako, but I really hope that's because Aku is bored and tired.

Voice aside, the writing and lines were fucking top notch. I'm so fucking glad this is how his first appearance was, it contrasts with the serious stuff so well.

It's not possible to replace Mako, and we all need to accept that and move on

I think my only complaint is that Aku seems a little bit off-model at items.

For example he seems a bit to gangly here and the tongue throws things off. Compare when he says Die here:

youtube.com/watch?v=TH2f8PiFinQ

Though it's a really minor complaint considering they otherwise nailed the style after a fucking long hiatus.

If Mako never existed and he had been the voice since the beginning, no one would find anything wrong with it

But Mako is an impossible act to follow. "Passable" is the best that anyone could have done as a replacement

>If Mako never existed and he had been the voice since the beginning, no one would find anything wrong with it
Wow that's deep. How can the voice be real if Aku isn't real? Fuck off you pseudointellectual niggerfaggot.

y r u angery

Aku was arguably born in Japan.

>Stop fucking around and stop sending assassins after the samurai
>destroy all the time portals
>do the smart thing and wait until the samurai dies of old age
>YFW YOU MADE THE PROBLEM WORSE BY ACCIDENTALLY MAKING HIM BIOLOGICALLY IMMORTAL

he talks too slow

This. It helps that any time Genndy was questioned on the subject, he was humble enough to admit that Mako was irreplaceable rather than resort to false assurance/overhyping the new guy.

Still waiting to see if hearing more dialogue changes my opinion. So far I wish Greg had just cut loose and imitated Mako's subtle lack of English fluency as well; It's not like easily-triggered autists make up any sizeable portion of SJ's fanbase to begin with.

www.strawpoll.me/12560732

How was it, lads?

I just realized, did Jack say a single word in the first episode of season 5?

I think that's what's missing. Mako had the stereotypical 'jap lisp' or whatever SJW term they have for it that comes from being Japanese and not a native english speaker. Greg apparently has tried to offset the fact that he's a native english speaker and lacks the lisp with some weird russian-english accent. If he focused more on making it sound like busted english like Mako it would sound a bit better.

He did the narration and he talked to his hallucinations.

>People ITT saying that Greg did as good a job as we can expect

That is such horse shit. I've heard losers on this board do more accurate impersonations of Aku. I feel like you faggots have never watched an original episode.

Watch this and tell me Baldwin even comes within 1%
youtube.com/watch?v=t7N67hn0TlA

He's fine but he delving into this stereotype mexican voice that just makes me laugh.

I miss the fuck out of mako though, his shit had all impact.

Yes quite a bit to the lost souls

oh my god user
i knew i recognized it

Re asking this.

How could everyone tell he was being his own psychiatrist because I couldn't and thought he had an actual one he was talking to. Is Aku the only creature of his kind in Samurai Jack?

The voice and simultaneous talking weren't exactly giveaway and I don't think there was anything visually that really showed it

they are looking for the grave with no name in the film, as a parallel to looking for jack in the coffin (whose true name we dont know).

Mako is dead you autistic retard, it doesn't matter WHO you get NO ONE is going to replace him.

Greg did fine considering who he had to replace.
Fuck off

It's kinda distracting, to be honest.

I mean, I'm sure it's the best they could get, but damn, that's not Aku. Why'd you have to go Mako? :'(

He was fine in Korra/ATLA because Iroh is really calm and measured. Likewise, he sounds much closer to Mako when Aku is calm.

>aku can't change colours when he shapeshifts
>aku had giant clothes made so he could act out therapy sessions

He's fine. Not nearly as good and over the top as the original, but it'll grow on me.

DURRR HES IRREPLACABLE

Eat a dick you fucking retard anyone is replaceable.

>Is Aku the only creature of his kind
Aku is literally evil incarnate. There is no "kind" and he's not a "creature".

Japan didn't exist when Aku landed on Earth.

You could see his darkness 'tail' slink over and behind the chair to form the therapist. are you retarded?

THIS is the "yes" we should have gotten.

I think he's retarded.
