Their "personalities" and "quirks" were added in the last second, that's why they are so bland. It's like they copied it from TV Tropes.

Really depends on the writers.
Since their frame is so bland, their personalities tend to be erratic and downright unsympathetic.
So far only 3 characters seemed to be genuinely nice, and that's just because they are out of focus.

I think people who dislike Mabel might like this Christmas Special.

In it, a bubbly cheerful little girl makes a selfish decision that puts the world in danger, but she spends nearly the entire special suffering the consequences and getting steadily more broken and dejected. Eventually everybody finds out it was her and start to hate her.
