Tomm Moore is a wolfaboo.

No, not a wolfaboo because it's culturally relevant and not Moon Moon autism.

Could someone give me the brief pitch for the Cartoon Saloon movies? What can I expect? What are they about? Most importantly, do I need any particular background knowledge (such as about cultural lore or previous Cartoon Saloon short films) in order to properly enjoy them?

Neat!

They mix Celtic mythology with modern 2D animation, no prior knowledge of Irish history necessary.

>father's name is Robyn Goodfellowe

Oh boy.

i love that pic padoga did

Artistically pleasing movies, they are about irish mythology, you dont need prior knowledge, you can watch them in any order- but song of the sea being the second one they made has a few easter eggs in it from secret of kells.

Some people say they find them boring or that they can drag a bit, but its kinda depending on the person.

This'll be amazing just like Kells and the Song were.

>look at comments
>furfags

DO NOT AWOO

Long time no see!

Looks promising.

looks good, i like the artstyle

loli yuri when?

awoo~

Purely due to work.

That'll be $350.

>dat sketchy watercolor sequence
muh dick
Hope it'll be just as good as Kells and Song were.

>tranformed
whoops
I was kinda hoping for another contemporary story rather than a period piece, but fug year gimme dat cartoon saloon

I saw this without reading first, and this screamed Cartoon Saloon fucking everywhere

>boring or that they can drag a bit
yes, so many scenes are for creating ambiance and such. Also, the pacing is not hollywood-influenced.

There are so many scenes that are great for taking it all in and loosing yourself in the artstyle. I can see people who don't care that much about animation and visuals asking themselves what is taking so long

>calarts
Ugghhh

Oh great, more fucking beautiful animation that would fall flat with the general western audience, fan fucking terrific.

I still don't know how they keep making these. Kells made back $0.5 million on an $8 million budget. They must make a lot of money from commercial and TV work.

Kells and SoTS were great, hopefully this is too

More like government subsidies from multiple European countries.

Yeah, these movies really are made for animation fans, general audiences don't like animation and children will get bored really fast.
It's kind of like Laika, they basically have no audience outside of just fans of animation.

ah yes, the next episode of angular Irish people

I cannot wait

>Animation, artstyle, imagery, and music are all absolutely fantastic
Shieeet mang, I don't even care if the story is lackluster, Tomm's movies are such a visual treat.

Unf

I still remember how Kells lost the (((Oscar))) to some meaningless CGI bullshit.

This (Cartoon Saloon) is the closest we ever got to having genuine western animation that can be taken seriously and isn't based on farts and pop culture.

Remember, most the voters for animated films at Oscars outright admit they give their votes to whatever movie their kids dragged them to.

True, but it's also true that (((Hollywood))) and all related subjects are an incestuous clusterfuck of certain interests and agendas. The awards, praise and the works themselves are by design meaningless and worthless to anyone intellectualy and emotionally honest. You could say that if something gets an award or is praised by the MSM and critics it's almost certainly pure shit. In fact this is usually true.

Western animation as a whole has taken a tremenous nosedive since the 90s and earlier glory days. Now it's a maggot infested carcass. I'm happy that at least someone is still producing worthwhile content. Kells was amazing, so was the Song, and I have no doubts this'll be great too.

Do I really am the only one who was bored to death by the pretentious nonsense Secret of Kells was? I'm not even fond of the artstyle. It's pretty lazy animation imo, you can do much better things with flash than filling all frames with whirls

The whole point of the art style was to make this story about creating illuminated manuscripts look like illuminated manuscript.

Yeah, another thing I don't get is how you get to thinking that a story about drawing medieval illuminations is interesting in the slightest. I was so hyped by all the fairytale shit they make you think it is. Then all the fantasy is pushed into the background and a magic monster eye turns out to be just a magnifying glass so you can draw your flowers tiny.
Being outside the mainstream doesn't mean you can be this fucking boring and be forgiven.

I think the artstyle is incredibly satisfying to look at.
I don't know what you think is pretentious about the movie, it's a pretty straightforward story.

You didn't understand the story. That's all. Go read Joseph Campbell's opus or Jung's and then watch it again. Not everything should be plebtier garbage.

Kells is the "first story" or more accurately the oldest story.

that's kinda creepy

I fucking love Moore's / Cartoon Saloon's movies. Kells and SotS were fantastic. This looks like it'll be worthwhile too.

Ah shit, watched the Trailer and then realised why I don't like watching trailers.

They've basically given away the first half of the movie plot. I like the look of it though. Seems like it'll be a fun watch, though I'm not sure I'm really a big fan of "killing animal that's actually something else" arcs

I love how so many of the backgrounds look like old fashioned wood carved prints
