>We recently found out that Sony has taken steps to get their long-gestating Venom movie into production, and that shooting was set to commence on the "sci-fi horror" spinoff as soon as this fall. All signs pointed to this being completely separate to Marvel and Sony's collaboration on Spider-Man: Homecoming, but now a new report suggests that they're going to have even less of a connection than we realized. >According to Collider's sources, Venom is being developed as an R-rated launch for the studio's own cinematic universe which would utilize the Spider-Man characters that they still retain the rights too, and would not tie-in to the MCU in any way.
This shitfest is starting to look a little better. I'm hopeful.
Evan Martinez
>R rating
FUCK YEAH
>Sony's own MCU
FUCK NO
Christian Brown
Sony executives should not be trusted to leave the house unsupervised.
Henry Lopez
already got a thread chief nice trips though
Connor Thompson
>Fox manage to prove that R rated super hero movies can be a success (even if they didnt want it) >Now people want to copy that just like they copied the "cinematic universe" strategy
Nathan Jackson
Thank you Deadpool. I hope this is a sign of MANY R rated comic movies to come.
Samuel Lewis
Why would making Venom R be such a good thing? He's not even that violent, he doesn't swear or anything either
Noah White
I give it 5 years before we have a year with 10 different comic book movies where you can't bring a kid to any of them.
Alexander Jenkins
FINALLY! I hope they fuck up this R Rated Venom film so that people who keep saying that Venom and Carnage can only be done in an R-Rating can shut the fuck up!
Xavier Walker
t. edgelord R-rated is good for Deadpool and Wolverine, doesn't mean it works for every character.
Jaxon Rodriguez
>R rated >sci-fi horror
Dont you do me a concern sony
Robert Nguyen
there's no such thing as a comic book movie you can't bring a kid to
Anthony Nelson
>Implying R-Rated isn't the best thing that could have happened to Venom
>ib4: Appearing on a movie with Spiderman would have been the best thing
Grayson Cruz
Then what is the penis inspection thing for?
Aaron Flores
R rated and Sci FI horror is a good mix for Venom
Too bad the execution will be shit. Should have forced the guys who made LIFE to include venom on it and made it the origin.
Jonathan Adams
user, parents are more willing to take their kid to an R-rated movie nowadays to spared the gay G-rated shit. My mom took me to see Alien Resurrection when I was 10, and probably would've let me seen any other R rated movie that was anything but Striptease.
Jaxson Rodriguez
No not every character, but there are many who could use it if they get a movie like: >Lobo >Spawn >Lady Death >Crossed >Vampirella >Evil Ernie >Red Sonja >Witchblade >The Darkness >Gen 13 >Heavy Metal
Joseph Lewis
So, sony want to do a spiderverse without spiderman?
Jason Sanders
>Crossed movie I... I would watch that just to see how much would they show.
Owen Bell
But R-Rated movies are awesome! You can say fuck in them! And lord knows swearing makes things instantly better!
I think he was being sarcastic. After Watchmen and Deadpool...this is true.
Dylan Rivera
>not that violent >EATS FUCKING BRAINS
FlashVenomfags go and stay go.
SWOLE BROCK VENOM
Charles Foster
>>Gen 13 The hell kind of Gen13 movie you're trying to make?
Tyler Peterson
Would anyone have the balls to make a rated r Maximum Carnage movie with Spiderman involved?
Jaxson White
Why are normies so annoying?
Joseph Brooks
>Sony's own MCU
I always wonder, what is what people doesn't like of MCUniverses?
I mean, we move under the premise that the studios, are not gonna make ONE superhero movie, and stop, they are always gonna do more. So isn't it nice that they are conencted?
Would you prefer just a bunch of random movies with different stayle that nothing has to do with each other like in early 00s?
Levi Jenkins
I wouldnt mind if its well done. Sadly neither solo and universes are well done most of the times.
The only cohesive universe we have right now is the Snyderverse.
But that already started to change thanks to the shitty Suicide Squad and now Wonder Woman. Tone will be all over the place. In my headcanon the DCEU will be only MoS-BvS-JL-JL2.
Lets not start arguments of quality, but you have to admit those movies are cohesive in narrative and look. Something you dont get anywhere else.
Anthony Jackson
>Sony's own MCU I would get so fucking hype if they brought Garfield and Stone back.
Juan Ward
Venom is among the subset of charater that would work with an R rating; if nothing else that'd really let them go all in on the brain eating.
Asher Price
>Sony >R-Rated
So it will be a Seth Rogen flick
Cooper Bell
But Venom is actually one character could use an R-rating, especially if they want to use Carnage as the villain.
Lucas Rogers
You know damn well, Rusty.
Josiah Edwards
I would fucking love a Lobo movie, if there isnt 80tys/90tys cheese in it with ultra violence dashed in there then gedoudda here.
Spawn allready has his own movie years back (And an animated tv flick on hbo) wouldent mind a slightly better remake.
Oh god PLEASE give lady death a movie, I dont want her legacy be that fucking retarded shitty animated flick she was given in the 90tys.
Vampirella would be a fun one too, bring back some deadly ass cool vampires again, same with witchblade but everyone will cry over her 'SHES NUDE OMG SEXIST DDDX' depliction of her.
I would love a valkerie-bitch tear Red Sonja movie like the ol 80tys version.
Fuck me another Heavy Metal movie would be cool too, sure the original was shit in its own way with tiddy and dong porn with a loose story through all of them but this might give 2d animators of the past to colaberate with each other again for another batshit crazy movie.
Aaron Sanchez

Elijah Cooper
Witchblade lore is extremely deep and good. And you dont have to make it a nude girl, though i like the skimpy clothes cause it shows off the really cool metal blades. They shouldn't go the tv show rought with fully plate mail though. I liked that show but the plate mail was just a cheep way of doing proper witchblade armor that can block almost anything.
And a heavy metal movie. Sure. But I'd rather have another cartoon movie like the origional anthology style.
Joshua Lee
He taunts people about eating brains, there was one story about how he actually ate brsinmatter and felt horrible about it. Also flash fucking bit a dudes fucking head off so dont blame flashfags for not wanting a graphic venom
Lincoln Clark
>Why would making Venom R be such a good thing? He's not even that violent, he doesn't swear or anything either
You've obviously never read Venom comics, like 90 percent of this board
The entire point of his character when he was at his most popular was being a violent anti hero who kills people and sometimes eats brains
Bentley Powell
So, wait. Does this mean that Spider-Man will never actually fight Venom in any of the upcoming movies?
Easton Reyes
>According to Collider's sources, Venom is being developed as an R-rated launch for the studio's own cinematic universe which would utilize the Spider-Man characters that they still retain the rights too, and would not tie-in to the MCU in any way.
What in the literal fuck is wrong with Sony?
David Rogers
Three things: >They're painfully out of touch >They're desperate >They have an idiot running the show
Also, I'm sure it was a serious blow to their pride to allow Marvel full creative control over the Spider-Man brand. They're still receiving the full profits of the new film, but it's like Marvel just went "Look, we'll do this for you. You don't have to do a thing. You'll even get all the money out of it. All we ask is that you let us use the character for our own movies as well." It really drives the point home how talentless they are.
Christian Gray
Sony has a sharing deal with Marvel/Disney, they didn't give up the rights to Spiderman so most likely they want to get spiderman/venom setup and then do a big fight movie.
Dominic Harris
But apparently, the Venom line of films is gonna be part of its own separate universe unconnected to the MCU. Also, while Sony has the rights to Spider-Man, part of the deal was that Marvel has creative control.
Jayden Wood
Since Jackman threw in the towel the X-Men franchise has lost a lot of stock. Time for Fox to give in and make MCU Phase 4 build towards AvX.
Lincoln Russell
>AvX Why do you hate Marvel so much?
Lincoln Moore
Keep in mind this is the same company that wants Toby and Andrew Spideys to fight and rebooted Ghostbusters as a crap fest.
Different management or what, this is still the same idiots at the wheel driving on the wrong side.
Ayden Gonzalez
>Since Jackman threw in the towel the X-Men franchise has lost a lot of stock
He was good in a single movie despite being in all of them.
Aaron Long
They have creative control in their own movies, it doesn't preclude sony from still doing their own.
Isaac Lewis
Since Jackman threw in the towel the X-Men franchise has lost a lot of stock. Time for Fox to give in and make MCU Phase 4 build towards AvX.
Robert Jones
I don't understand how a company could be this far out of touch.
Lucas Reyes
R-Rated Aunt May spy movie when?
Robert Fisher
Select invite focus groups?
I'm a huge venom fan and even I see this as a disaster.
Its like they're still listening to Avid Arad and his nonsense thinking Venom is a standalone character. He nor anyone else realizes Venom is a B character to Spider-man. Without Spidey, he is not even existent.
Avid Arad made good toys, he doesn't make good movies.
Joshua Barnes
Don't fucking call Kaz an idiot.
Easton Collins
The thing about Sony was that they were always out of touch. It's just that for the Raimi films, being out of touch just happened to work in their favor. The Raimi Spider-Man films had some extremely dated and awkward dialogue and humor, yet somehow this ended up clicking with viewers.
Nolan Green
Raimi's saturday serials literally influenced the entire crop of young men, so of course his movies are going to click with people and honestly his first two spidermen/movies are kind of perfect and often quoted as some of best movies still to have been done. So not sure what you're talking about.
It also helped that it came out just after 9/11 so people were wanting to keep their head down and just watch movies.
Ryder Gonzalez
Sony Pictures, you mean. Their video games department is the best in the industry
Evan Scott
I dunno, man. I always felt that the Raimi films were almost painfully cheesy and Peter was mind-numbingly awkward. Honestly, it felt like despite being an adult, Peter generally had the personality and thought process of a young child.
Colton Carter
If I may throw another name into the ring, I think it's time we got a more faithful adaptation of The Mask.
Dominic Baker
>would you prefer if movies had legs to stand on instead of being long winded commercials for the next movie?
Yeah, that sounds nice.
Luis Peterson
It'd need an R rating if they wanted to put Carnage in there
Ian Gomez
the cartoon was rated R right?
Adrian Barnes
Its going to be a fucking shit show and I can't wait.
Eli Hill
stop
my erection can only get so hard
Carson James
I have the same apprehension towards this that I did towards the Deadpool movie. This is either gonna be great, or it's gonna be fucking terrible, and there's just no middle ground here.
Isaiah Lewis
>Deadpool and Cable >X-Force >Now Venom Oh God, we really are reliving the late 80s/early 90s era of edge. What did we do to deserve this?
Chase Cox
>For Sony's Own MCU how, they only really own Spider-Man's stuff, which Venom is a big part of, this is just aggravating, i just want the EDDIE BROCK VENOM arc happening in a movie or 2, i dont want this stupid bullshit why does Sony always have to try and be fucking weird
Chase Wood
>a separate MCU Yeah i'm sure that won't be confusing at all.
What all do they own anyways?
Daniel Butler
I think they just own Spider-Man. Granted, Spider-Man has a fucking extensive list of characters and stories over the last 40+ years and they could absolutely make a cinematic universe out of it if they wanted to, but it's just kinda more than a little confusing and retarded that Marvel proper also has the rights is adding Spider-Man to their own cinematic universe before Sony gets the chance to.
Parker Allen
>SpdieyCU without the THE Spider-Man >all these literally who just to fill it up
Cooper Diaz
Spider-Man is going to fucking sink the MCU.
Not only do we have to accommodate a Spider-Man film every two years, but we also have to keep showing him off in Avengers films, and then these unofficial spinoffs, and every time, spiderfags go "What about Spider-Man?"
Fuck Spider-Man. I hope he gets raped by his uncle again.
Daniel Wood
I guess now that we've had two good R-rated superhero films it's time for the shitty imitators to start rolling in
Eli Lopez
Deadpool and...?
Cooper James
this has been my thought since Fox started the trend, they wont have it feel genuine
Robert Evans
They'll probably have their own Spider-Man in these movies too, but leading it off with Venom is a risky start. He's probably the most popular SM character besides Peter himself but will Normies even care?
Jacob Perry
Logan you dumbnuts
Ayden Jenkins
>The Logan of Us
kys
Eli Green
No one could possibly fill those shoes. Don't even try.
Oliver Ortiz
I can't wait for The Emoji Movie to bomb
Joshua Hill
dumb frogposter
Christian Gomez
JUST FOLLOW THE 90'S CARTOON. WHY IS THAT SO HARD?
Oliver Cox
>le R rated comic book movies are a new thing meme
You youngfags are so fucking pathetic and irritating , this board would be so much better if it didn't allow anybody born after like 1992
Oliver Stewart
THIS I feel like a venom movie would just be so awkward without Spider man or any other Spider man characters
Easton Hernandez
Howard Gwen > Stone Gwen
But neither are muh Gwen
Christian Moore
why
why couldn't they have just fully sold the rights back
Connor Ross
>there was one story about how he actually ate brsinmatter and felt horrible about it.
Which is that?
Charles Garcia
retarded company run by imbeciles
Juan Diaz
>this might give 2d animators of the past to colaberate with each other again for another batshit crazy movie.
Are any of those guys really ever coming back?
Parker Brown
>inb4 they make Eddie a twink again
How dense can you be? EDDIE BROCK is a buff motherfucker. I'm not suggesting Channing Tatum, but it can't be anyone smaller than that.
With Carnage, you have a little more freedom.
I know Raimi intentionally sabotaged the character by using Topher Grace, but I'm afraid Sony is also going to unironically use some Holland-esque fag for Brock.
TO ANY PRODUCERS READING: PLEASE CAST YOUR RENTBOY AS CARNAGE INSTEAD OF VENOM IF YOU WOULD BE SO KIND
Andrew Murphy
>implying Marvel Studios could make a good Venom movie, or even a good Venom feature
Venom is not mouseketeer material no matter which way you spin it
Elijah Roberts
They have better track record than Sony Pictures.
An MCU Venom movie would be constrained by Disney but it would at least be run by competent people.
Samuel Brooks
So basically, the success of Deadpool/Logan and the underperformance of X-Men Apocalypse has led studios to conclude that they can't compete with Marvel for PG-13, family movies, but they have a better shot with R-rated movies (which Marvel doesn't do).
Makes sense. I don't know if Marvel/Feige has any interest in R-rated stuff and even if they did their schedule's pretty full of PG-13 capeshit.
Jace Butler
>Venom is not mouseketeer material no matter which way you spin it wtf, they have used Punisher, they are using Ghost Rider, what kind of excuse is this
Easton Thomas
Netflix doesn't count
Do they? Do they really? I think there are 5-6 good Marvel Studios movies, tops, and they have way more movies than Sony in terms of Marvel characters.....Sony has what, 5? Two of those were decent, as good as any MCU movie anyway
Adding up the numbers, I do not find your statement to be agreeable
