i did half a semester at film school and then dropped out and told the lecturers you could learn everything necessary after the first course on using cameras/lighting/sound
they agreed and got me work with a studio

I got involved with someone I knew who did it himself, self taught and is very successful at it and rented out equipment and did local jobs and went from there.
