History is partially immunised from this. You are permitted to do essays on pretty much anything of your choosing and as long as you pay lip service to some (((scholars))) that the tutor likes they will take seriously your line of argument. Second for research and dissertation if you see a gap in the scholarship and it can be justified they will permit you to do so.
