Yes and no. She starts out with an organic human brain but as the story progresses it turns out her brain was probably manufactured or bioengineered. In the playstation game I believe her brain actually began as a tumor growing in somebody elses body. At one point in the manga she is blown to smithereens and another doctor rebuilds her brain from a small tissue sample using nanotechnology but later it turns out that she doesn't actually have the rebuilt brain she has a computer chip with a copy of her brain on it in her head.

If I recall correctly, she doesn't get the Berzerker body in the manga until its close to the Motorball arc, which is basically going to be the second half of the film.

The pacing must be incredibly fast since the fight with chain fingers isn't until the end of the first volume. There are a lot of events leading up to that. Unless they go with the butchered anime timeline, which would be odd since that didn't have the hooker arms or motorball.
