Truly the Rothko of film and television.

Top 5 for me. It’s as good as a steak dinner! Believe me, I studied film

...

Werner Herzog? Is that you? Why are you posting here??

So for the last time you’re not even going to attempt to prove anything I said wrong. Gotcha. I’ve been open to argument and opposing opinions this entire time...but they never came. Even now you don’t make a single point other than I’m wrong but you won’t explain how. Sure thing.
Well, the thread is hitting bump limit and I without a doubt won this one, one against what, 10 of you, and you couldn’t take me down? Lol I’ll go to bed happy tonight.
Enjoy your movies, honestly they’re all fine, just read some film theory articles at least. Know why you like what you like.
And most importantly: keep those brains turned off!

I’m not going to argue with you again, but bringing up someone respected in the industry as further endorsement of an opinion isn’t a fallacy. It’s just making a point. Which you all conveniently ignored.

I wanted to share my infallible patrician taste with some hardcore film buffs like myself.

Lmfao

I’m not getting into this again. FOR THE LAST TIME: I NEVER said I was infallible or better than anyone. Stop saying i said things I didn’t say. This is the last time I say this.

Just marathoned the first five minutes of Gummo, what am I in for?

Is this an AMA? If so Werner, I heard you lick shitty assholes.. is that true? And if so.. why?

There doesn’t seem to be any appreciation for film as an art form in this flick

literal kino. It’s like eating beef Wellington off a rothco painting of Werner Herzog

I don’t remember which critic it was but one of them said you could pause Gummo at literally any point and the frame would be essentially modern art. So to call it a flick is a bit ignorant, user. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s bad.

This movie is funny as fuck.
>the scene with the miget
>chair wrestling
>he was dyslexic but also crossed so it worked out
>bunnyboy and the cowboy kids

Great soundtrack too 10/10

NIGGAS IFFY UH
BLICKY GOT THE STIFFY UH

Finally a comrade. The amount of plebs on this board that can’t apreciate a film like this anymore is overwhelmingly depressing.

I am fucking dying from this post.

Harmony is that you?

This is a glib facsimile

...

This is an incredible film, but it irritates me when people try to make it into something that wasn't made by a borderline retard.

hey Werner

Korine has a deep understanding of film and went to film school and has a father that is a filmmaker. You calling him a retard just makes you look retarded.

Now that the dust has settled, can we all agree that this penguin was expelled from its colony for liking Gummo?

This. This film. Wow. I watch it at least once a month. Top 5 for me.

It invokes feelings in me no other film does, so I love it.

been many years since ive seen this. still dunno what the fuck its about, what was the meaning of the bunny boy, why did he drown the cat

is this supposed to be poverty porn or what

I'm sure he knows about all kinds of obscure films and stuff, but he seems to have the intellect of an adolescent. The fact that you can't see that makes you seem fumb, user.

Expelled? More like he ran for the hills because all the other penguins were faggots without the ability to make a valid counter argument tbqhwu

You said all of it and that Werner Herzog is your spirit animal

Korine’s goal was to present a story in his own style. There was no deep meaning or underlying plot. It is what it is, just accept it that way and enjoy it.

Is that why Spring Breakers looks like literal vomit?

Gummo presents you with imagery you’ve never seen before

Hi how are ya? Weiner Hotdog here, beloved film connoisseur. This film, Gummo, ages like a fine Rothco painting. You see right now you have little baby taste buds that can only appreciate candy. (This is a metaphor lad) I suggest studying up on film history and then revisiting it. Perhaps then your intellectual tastes will mature and you’ll be enjoying steak dinners with the likes of me.

I didn’t say he was infallible. As someone that put Gummo in his top 5 I dislike Spring Breakers and all but hate Mr Lonely. Gummo and J:DB are nearly masterpieces of film imo, his later work disappoints me quite a bit. And the one in production doesn’t look promising, either.

It's 'in-your-face'

Samefag

...

>gummo is a masterpiece
THE WILD RIDE NEVER ENDS!

That's what happens when a stupid person attempts making something bigger than quirky, arty-farty bullshit. It's like, stick to your retarded shit, you're good at it.

remember to take your meds

No. And I’d never use the term in your face as it’s pointless. As for Gummo presenting images you’ve never seen before...well, it does...
It’s your own fault if you’re too pleb to appreciate it.

>alternate board scheme
Nice shoop tho. Almost got me

>your opinion is wrong and mine is right
This is exactly what you all got so butthurt about in the first place. Funny how you’re just hypocrites in the end.

There are so many layers of humor in this thread.

>too pleb
EXCUSE ME? I’ll have you know I spent 2 semesters studying film theory and you sir are a buffoon!!!!!

You're a "true" beliver is what you are, no medicine would do you any good

>As someone that put Gummo in his top 5

This will never not be hilarious to read out loud.

Came for the rothco herzog wellington, extra medium rare.

It invokes feelings in me no other film does so I love it. Feel free to bash me for my taste while telling me that’s what I’m doing to you. It’s quite hypocritical. Just come back and read this thread tomorrow and apologize later. I’ll keep an eye out for it.

I made this thread for you. How about a little appreciation you retarded homunculus!

You know what the funny thing is? I never studied film theory in school. I taught myself through watching movies and reading books in my own time over many years. But because I have a deeper understanding of the art form than some of you and merely suggested that you all do the same you act like I’m some fool? Absolutely hilarious.

Herzog posting is certified dank

You mean you....went to films?

So close to the get.

Don’t let these haters keep you down my fellow patrician. I too enjoyed Gummo very much. How old are you and how long have you been a film buff friend?

Post your top five so I can laugh at it. Really. Do it. And don’t be ironic or silly.

>I don’t remember which critic it was but one of them said you could pause Gummo at literally any point and the frame would be essentially modern art.

I remember a critic saying something similar about Julien Donkey Boy over at Ruthless Reviews, because it's true of Harmony Korine movies generally. Although I also think that sentiment is kind of a cliche.

>I found that if you paused the movie (Make sure you get the DVD) randomly in any scene, the resulting still image is beautiful. It makes me really long to invent some sort of printer where you can easily print full size posters from your paused DVD player. Julian Donkey Boy could give me a whole bunch of cool posters.

ruthlessreviews.com/1358/julian-donkey-boy/

You didnt went to film school, you went to films huh.

it's so amusing that such a debate stems from someone who's top 5 is really nothing out of the ordinary yet he makes a comment about how people's taste is lackluster.

the irony is not lost on me

Dear mr hotdog,

How do you think modern films can explore deep emotional aspects of the human condition as Gummo does? How can other films incorporate themes such as wall bacon and bathtub spaghetti?

In a completely non ironic way I get sexually aroused by the thought that I understand Korine films and 99.99% of people don't

Gummo

Gummo

Age is unimportant, it would just become something else to attack instead of making arguments, but I’m neither what you would consider too old or young. I’ve been a film “buff” for at least 10 years. I love plenty of shitty flicks and movies. Some really awful stuff. But a top 5 list should display an appreciation for the medium in my opinion.

As long as you invoke feelings in others to make them love your film, you’re doing all the right things. Cheers!
-HW

Yes! Ruthless Reviews! Haven’t seen that brought up in forever, never seen it mentioned here. That’s wild that someone else saw and remembered the same thing. Truly a great site during its peak. Kind of went to shit sadly and I don’t even remember why.

Yes yes I see. You mentioned a top 5. What is your top 5? I’m going to start compiling mine now.

So you don’t have the guts. Gotcha.

If you understand films then you do not understand them you grass feeding beast

Same as the last thread

Fitzcarraldo
A Woman Under the Influence
In a Year of 13 Moons
Gummo
Spoorloos

All great films yet I got autistically singled out and essentially bullied because people here can’t fathom that someone might genuinely like Gummo.

Alright user I’ll bite. But only cause I love ya.

Hard to be a God
8 1/2
Bronson
The Great Train Robbery
Spring Breakers

>julien donkey boy

Kinography of the highest kind, as it leverages the combined genius of Korine and Herzog.

Here ya go

Vanishing is great and there's even cassavetes in there.

I guess Gummo truly is the dealbreaker

>No hotdog

0/10, see me after class

I see nothing wrong here friend. These are all splendid films that have made major contributions to film. You were being attacked in another thread?

Well, A Woman Under the Influence was top 5 worthy. 1 out of 5 isn't good.

Oh, and just say, The Vanishing, you tryhard fucking cunt.

>no Scorcese, or Lucas, or Tarantino
Watch out user, you’ll have your Sup Forums card revoked. I don’t necessarily love any of those but they show that you go beyond basic flicks that you turn your brain off to enjoy, so respectable list. Read some Antonioni film theory, you’d probably like it.

spoorloos

Really? I never watched any of them. I just picked faggy movies I figured you approve of becuase you’re a fag

Because the shitty remake is called The Vanishing. Otherwise I would. Faggot.

I must say, it is so refreshing being surrounded by true film buffs with a deeper understanding of the arts.
Gummo by the prodigé Harmony Korine is the Foie Gras of cinema. I remember watching it at 0.6 of the speed, only so my orbitals could soak all the finesse and artistry going on. It makes me feel like wee ball of dna in the womb, generating my limbs for the very first time.
I'd kill my own progenitor whore to be able to watch it for the first time again and be mesmerized by the magnum opus of mankind.
In the end, when the space gods comes to judge, Werner Herzog will present them with Gummo and it'll vindicate our existence as a species.

Considering I was one of the chief arguers against you in the last thread I'd love to know what you think of my top 5.

Being There
Apocalypse Now
The Great Beauty
Taxi Driver
Boogie Nights

poo in spoorloos

>Antonioni film theory

It's a shame his films are so dull, it's like he never realized film is a moving medium but he made one masterpiece, shame about the rest...

Maybe he should have gone to films instead of film school

Go fuck yourself.

Mad? I win

No. You say what I want you to say. Cunt.

Ho hum way to turn your brain off you plebeian. What’s with all the color and sound??? Films are supposed to be boring user. Go to film please. Geez

Yeah I’ll take one steak, done wellington.

Also, along with I'd like to inform you that the movie was barely top-400. Kys.

I was! The filthy plebs just couldn't appreciate the fine Rothkoesque smorgasbord of delectable cinema that only film scholars such as myself and Werner Herzog enjoy.

Hey Herzog, big fan btw. So I’ve been reading up on Snyder theory and a little Cameron theory. How does Antonio theory stack up to those?

Patooey on them I say! Like a rapidly warming caviar!

My list was even more devoid of color, extremely slow, artsy fartsy shit than his.
He doesn't seem to get it that it has nothing to do with his taste, I'm sure Gummo is fine, but it's his little bratty pathetic attitude.

I mean it’s Reddit af but you’re on the verge of some good taste. Please watch some Cassavettes or unironically Herzog.

>Kind of went to shit sadly and I don’t even remember why.

Jonny fell out with co-founder Erich and some of the more prominent forum posters. He left years ago and the site never recovered. It never had the same voice. I think Matt Cale is still around, and the/a forum still exists detached from the main site.

Shame because Ruthless was a great site.

This. He’s a snob, and not even a qualified one.

>bratty
Excuse me but I literally made valid point after valid point. The fact that I refused to back down or give way to your never ending insults makes me bratty? Fuck off.
