Season 1

Season 1
>And then we're gonna go on even more adventures after that, Morty and you're gonna keep your mouth shut about it, Morty, because the world is full of idiots that don't understand what's important, and they'll tear us apart, Morty but if you stick with me, I'm gonna accomplish great things, Morty, and you're gonna be part of them, and together, we're gonna run around, Morty. We're gonna do all kinds of wonderful things, Morty. Just you and me, Morty. The outside world is our enemy, Morty. We're the only friends we've got, Morty. It's just Rick and Morty. Rick and Morty and their adventures,

Season 3
>We've got adventures to go on, Morty -- just you and me -- and sometimes your sister and sometimes your mom, but never your dad. You want to know why, Morty? Because he crossed me. Welcome to the darkest year of our adventures. He threatened to turn me in to the government, so I made him and the government go away. I've rep[burps]laced them both as the de facto patriarch of your family and your universe. Your mom wouldn't have accepted me if I came home Oh, man. without you and your sister, so now you know the real reason I rescued you. I just took over the family, Morty, and if you tell your mom or sister I said any of this, I'll deny it, You're gonna deny it. and they'll take my side because I'm a hero, Morty.

They learned at the end of season 2 that they can't just fuck around ad infinitum.

Oh and they probably ran out of good adventures to tell, just like Futurama.

I dont think they could "run out". Theyre design process is letting Justin go on an autistic spergout and writing down things he says, and then animating around it.

Taken from the commentaries and special features on the dvds.

You have a good thing going, you live with your daughter her complete fuck up of a husband and his children. Yeah you fuck things up, but you always* fix* them. In fact you have the means to make their lives better, and usually dole some out upon requests, but this little shit of a son in law always finds a way to hem and haw about everything, even good things. Then this little cuck finds purpose in the bureaucracy that goes against and obstructs everything you strive to accomplish, and is even willing to sell you out to it, and you're still going to let the status quo continue and not jettison that fuck up from you and you daughter's and grandchildren's lives? Who are you? Jerry?

He's just desperate because he needs his McDonalds Mulan sauce, when he gets it back he will calm down again.

Nothing, it's the same shit. Both speeches were ad-libbed by the same guy.

In the commentary for the Mr. Meeseeks episode they literally say they ran out of adventure ideas and Rick and Morty's plot was a mix of random shit they tossed together.
This is what happens when a series tries to be too enigmatic with a characters backstory and then gets too lore heavy they don't think ahead and end up losing focus on what the core premise of the show was.

Old Rick had some enthusiasm and at least had a positive outlook on adventures with Morty.

Now he's just a really bitter and power-obsessed McDonalds junkie.

>he spends his time posting about a show he doesn't like on a Tibetan flute carving message board

And I thought my life was sad. thanks for giving me some perspective.

It's a joke. People keep ascribing some DEEPEST LORE shit to this show, but don't seem to realize that the people in charge are ready and willing to throw out anything if they think it's funny enough. It's a comedy first, everything else is third.

Sounds like a complete rejection of further character development and lore for the sake of comedy to me. I'm into it.

Aw jeez, Rick.

>Tibetian Flute

>People keep ascribing some DEEPEST LORE shit to this show
Because the show literally made Rick a magnet for some deep backstory they're tip toeing towards.
The moment they painted Rick as some tortured soul, smartest man in the universe, center of the plot they pretty much set in motion that they're going somewhere.
Thankfully they've dismantled that approach and hopefully stick to Rick just being a mad scientist dickhead who goes on wild adventures.

It's better this way. The write staff aren't committed enough to telling a dramatic story. They want a funny, surreal story and a continuous, plot-driven story. But they are obviously more interested in the funny.

When I wish the show had stayed close to the pilot. Where Rick and Morty's adventures were sort of a secret. But I agree the show runners/writers lost their way in season 2. It was still funny but it didn't feel right.

The show has always been a mishmashed Frankenstein of serious deep lore bullshit and non-committal comedy. It's the dissonance between the two elements that I find the most worthwhile thing about the show.

Adult Swim is an adult targetted programming block. If youths are watching it, they either have the consent of their parents, or have been burdened with irresponsible parents who should strive to be better. Neither is the responsibility of Dan Harmon or Cartoon Network.

user, you can fill entire posts with 2000 sets of quotation marks. It doesn't change the fact that CN and AS do what they are tasked to do to inform viewers of all ages of the nature of AS programming. If you have a problem with the audience of AS and feel it is being exposed to content inappropriate for their age, you should seek out the parents of these particular viewers and bring them up to speed on what their children may or may not be watching.
As it is, Sup Forums is a forum that requires 18 years to use so I can only take it at face value that user is composed of adults, and as such, as much as user posts about Rick and Morty I would argue a lot of adults watch it.

They are adults legally, but not mentally.
By trying to get redditors(whom are browsing Sup Forums illegally by default) to spam memes about there not being a God and parents being dumb, they are setting a precedent which will allow the nation to fall into despair and ruin. By spamming my counter-memes, I am doing my part to save Western Civilization from cancerous media such as Rick and Morty. Few redditors may realize how ridiculous their idolization of such an inferior television program is, but the ones who do can be utilized in ending the cause

Boy, I remember seeing that and thinking something interesting would happen.

Rick is a terrorist user. Would you necessarily want your wife's father to live with your family once you found out that he commits terrorism and takes your children on missions to bomb infidels?

>Mr. Meeseeks episode

so by episode 5 they were out of ideas?

>Old Rick had some enthusiasm and at least had a positive outlook on adventures with Morty.
...you do realize that first monologue was delivered while Morty was literally having a seizure on the garage floor because the mega-seeds that Rick had convinced him to SHOVE UP HIS ASS had dissolved and were fucking with his brain chemistry, as Rick explained while noting that Morty is "as dumb as they come", and that they were going to go back and smuggle even more?

Rick's "positive outlook" was meant to be horrifying because he has such a huge moral dissonance between how he treats Morty and how he perceives their relationship, he's a manipulative if not outright abusive authority figure and the show's explored that, up to and including his latest rant. At least this time Morty's rectum was intact.

Eh, they may've plotted out the rest of the season, then realized they were still 1 episode short from the order, so they cobbled together what unused ideas they had. It seemed to work out fairly well, everyone loved Mr. Meseeks, even Sup Forums, and I remember Sup Forums also lost its shit (in a good way) at the King Jellybean subplot.

Something interesting is going to happen, anyone who thinks that this episode is canon is a retard.

It's an April Fools episode, it's like the Tree House of Horror's Simpsons episodes. It has no baring whatsoever on anything else.

>inb4 "Nuh uh"

Yeah huh.

Consider what we know. This whole episode was structured to be self-contained, and it even ended like the pilot episode did. Further, it's just one giant meme (the fucking sauce) played out over 22 minutes, and has no impact at all with the other episodes. Just like the pilot isn't connected to any of the others.

Anyone who thinks that this episode was an actual episode from Season 3 is a dullard. Hell, they might reference this episode as a joke, but that's the most you might see when it finally airs.

>The episode couldn't have been bad it was just all part of the joke

>I was only pretending to make a shit episode

I don't like Rick and Morty, but this is literally classic Adult Swim.

Their entire fanbase was bitching nonstop about Season 3 taking so long. The best way to infuriate them further is by making them believe they're getting an actual episode from the season, and then never actually address it when the season airs.

I know this to be the case because of the various pieces of test footage they showed off. Getting out of prison is going to be a long process. The family is going to have to become acclimated to living within the government, and so on. Instead, everyone just accepts the government in one episode and Jerry already has had multiple promotions. This doesn't jive.

Further, they played the episode 8 fucking times that night and every episode had an enormous number of ads. Why do you think this might be? Because AS sold an inordinate amount ad space to cover the cost of this spin-off episode, and they did it under the pretense that this was going to being airing during a new episode of one of their most watched shows. Therefore allowing them to easily recoup any losses in not only making the episode, but also from doing so many reruns. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they had to do this many reruns in order to sell enough ad space at the price point they needed.

Feel free.

>This is what happens when a series tries to be too enigmatic with a characters backstory and then gets too lore heavy they don't think ahead and end up losing focus on what the core premise of the show was
This is what happens every five years on Doctor Who

Doesn't work that way. You can't "dismantle" all this shit they've spent two seasons building without pissing everyone off.

They've put together some pretty intricate lore and now they're stuck with it. You can't have it both ways.

The funniest thing is you and other posters here acting like the mythical "redditor" is any different from you.

>The best way to infuriate them further is by making them believe they're getting an actual episode from the season, and then never actually address it when the season airs.

Why would the creators and the network want to infuriate their fans as much as possible?

I'm lost. So I've seen every episode and thought I was fine, solid B. But I feel like there's some bigger lore here, is there any or are just people pulling things out of there ass?

I don't buy Rick's speech at the end. He's trying to come off as completely unhinged and uncaring, but it doesn't sit right.

As he himself said, he apparently did all this to get back in Beth's good graces. If he's really this uncaring, manipulative nihilist why does he care whether Beth accepts him or not? This particular Beth and not one of her infinite other versions? Why does he give a shit about being patriarch of this family, let alone any family at all? Why tell Morty he'll deny all this if he doesn't give a shit about them?

I think this is all an act because Rick thinks pretending to be totally nuts and uncaring is the only way to protect his family. He now sees Jerry will, sometimes, not put up with him and even endanger them and so drove Jerry away (or just doesn't care about him and really did want him gone).

ironically, he prays to god when shit gets real for him though

Not sure what you're asking. If you've seen every episode then you know what the lore is: multiverse, Council of Ricks/The Citadel, the Galactic Federation, hints of Rick's history with those groups, him being described as a terrorist hanging out with other beings like Birdperson also described as a terrorist, Rick being bitter and self-loathing, Beth's mother (Rick's wife/girlfriend) being conspicuously absent.

The show has set up and hinted at a lot. It's possible they were just coming up with things and sticking them together as they went along, but I don't think so. It seems like they have some bigger ideas than just crazy Rick and his buddy Morty go on adventures.

If he's an uncaring nihilist he needs no greater reason than because he wants to but it doesn't matter because he's daring anybody to challenge him.

But why does he want to? He spends an awful lot of effort and time with a family he says he doesn't care about. And why this particular family when there are billions of others?

He seems to want this particular Beth and these particular Summer and Morty out of all of the entire multiverse.

In the upcoming episode morty tries to kill himself because he's tired of this shit (this was from the leak when they played the animatics in class). Also dune worms later.

Why would they push Jack back a week?

I don't know the numbers but I'd wager than R&M clobbers it in the ratings and overall popularity. They figured that the boost from a surprise R&M episode would far outweigh any harm from Jack fans.

They're almost certainly right, too.

I think season 3 is gonna turn out awful, but I am willing to watch each episode given how Justin's writing process is.

T - Not Justin Roiland

Why treat it any different than any other show? If you like it keep watching it until you don't like it anymore.

Sup Forums gets really weird about this show.

It's just an improv bit, exactly like Season 1's rant. Of course Rick didn't actually try to lock Morty into going on adventures with him because of Mulan McNugget sauce. That isn't his real motivation. It's just a joke.

And it didn't. The ratings for that night were bad, with Jack literally pulling triple what Rick & Morty did on any particular episode.

The thing is, RnM is either fucking terrible or genuinely good with me. Season 2 was pretty bad, and the

You're misinterpreting what's going on and backing up my point.

R&M was unannounced, so most people didn't catch it when it was on. But it created a huge sensation immediately, so when people did start tuning in Jack got a bump.

Genius planning on AS's part.

Did people actually not like this episode?

God sometimes I forget how shit Sup Forums's taste is.

They're just being contrarian. Some purposefully, some unconsciously.

This is something I've learned since I began dealing with creative types: There is always one fat, useless autist who will have nothing to contribute, until he sees a way to annoy the viewers. Then he will latch onto that like a pitbull into arm flesh and won't let go until he either tears it off and puts it in the project, or is shot by his master.

this

I liked it, but they definitely appear to have jumped the shark pretty early with how shit got fucked by Rick.

I think the only remaining plot thread is evil morty (not counting the new one post-credits)

This was never a very plot driven show. They ignored Evil!Morty for all of season 2 when everybody was speculating that he would be the villain of this episode or that, they introduced the Federation back in the pilot but haven't really done much with them between then and season 2's finale that I can recall. They introduced the Council of Ricks and then realized that writing a whole multiverse's worth of Ricks was Rickdiculous.I understand that a lot of people might find those concepts interesting, but I mean, there's no shortage of straight-faced sci-fi that explores the idea of a galactic federation or a multiversal order of some sort.

I'm here for drunken ramblings and family drama using sci-fi trappings.

They'll probably show a flash back to him jumping around various universes and finding out he was supposed to get grand kids and fill in blanks blah blah blah

I love it but it was just too fast. They shouldve made it a two parter, things got resolved way too quickly.

>it's another autist doesn't understand a joke thread

Jack didn't air last week, dumbass.

R&M did 450k~ at peak during the "marathon" and Jack has done 1.3-1.5m each weekend.

The only reason, and I mean the only reason, AS would be okay with this is if they could sell enough ad space to people by showing them the numbers that Rick & Morty pulled in Season 2. And then sell an insane amount of ad space, which is what they did.

Dude, did you even watch it live? On several ad breaks they literally played Samsung and Carls Jr ads five times in a row before plowing into 6-7 minutes of the show, and then hitting us with five more Samsung commercials. They did this for FOUR HOURS, three ad breaks a show multiply by 8. That gives you 24 ad breaks. Now multiply that by the number of ads we saw on average, which was 4. And suddenly you have almost 100 commercials.

That's insane. That's literally "Big Bang Theory" numbers, or NFL numbers.

So knowing how well Jack was tracking, they would need to offset the loss of not airing jack, and not airing the show immediately before and immediately after. I don't know why you guys can't figure out that without selling ad time, networks like AS are literally dead. They can't afford to do something meme-y like this unless they do it in a time slot where the only people paying for that time are guys who got kicked off of QVC or have gold bullion to sell you because preppers. You have to come to grips with this reality. No one over at AS would have been comfortable with just ruining their entire night if they couldn't lock in companies who were willing to run ads under the pretense that they would be shown to the Rick and Morty viewers - which they were. They just didn't get anywhere near the normal figures Rick and Morty pulls.

this

This isn't a joke when you fuck with ART.

Those are pretty similar. In the 1st one he's clearly saying it's just the two of them, and in season 3 he's very clearly saying Jerry got between them so he's out of the picture now.

It's still "just you and me", but Summer and Beth will get co-star status in non-adventures. Hell, they did that in season 1 with things like the meeseeks, it's nothing new.

My only problem with this is that they got rid of the Council of Ricks so easily. I mean, Rick is so far above almost everything, you'd think the one organization he couldn't topple in an afternoon would be the one made up of thousands of himself. Would have been far more interesting if not getting on the Council's bad side was the one thing he had to be careful about.

>Dude, did you even watch it live?

Not him but I watched the Stream and the ads weren't anywhere near that ridiculous.
