Anyone want to hear about my day?

Congratulations, you bought a $60,000 ticket to become a awful artist.

Lemme guess... Theatre program?

>anyone can get in there!!

that explains the 17% acceptance rate and high industry success rate, right? are you sad your deviantart show wasn't picked up?

I genuinely hope you succeed in your field and feel a sense of accomplishment in your life, OP. A lot of folks would kill for a chance to go where you're going.

Also, make sure to get laid. Art school girls are freaky deeky.

>CalArts
throw it away

sure

thank you friend :^) I already have a gf though, no wild sex parties for this guy!

RRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEyou still probably won't be able to make that cartoon, pal.

Do you chew your fucking nails?

I only got four hours of sleep last night so I'm feeling pretty crappy. I went to the two used books stores and was able to get nine of the thirteen Fu Manchu books. Then I spent the afternoon reading Ace in the Hole. Now I'm going to play Hyper Light Drifter.

I hope you're ready to be rigorously retrained until you can recreate the Cal Arts face and draw nothing else.

Good luck, especially considering it's in Cali.

Cool, just make sure they don't make you fall for the round-head-bean-mouth-noodle-limb meme, pitch your idea to Netflix or Adult Swim if it's necessary.

never heard of those books, but sounds cool; hope your day gets better and you enjoy this weekend my mayne

>17% acceptance rate
Pshh... I know for a fact that fewer than 17% of applicants get a job at Walmart.

>high industry success rate
In an industry that is saturated with garbage art? Sure, hang on to that gold star then bud.

>he thinks his high school relationship will survive freshman year of college

user...

Thanks buddy. I'd recommend Ace in the Hole if you like superhero books and the Fu Manchu books if you like racist Bond villains.

And how many of that 17% will actually get to make their cartoon?
I don't understand how anyone can have fun slaving around in a studio in which you'll get to make someone's Bean-Head cartoon or your heartless CGI cartoons.

Make us a promise, OP. If you graduate or whatever, and decide to make a cartoon, please make sure the characters stay roughly the same size, and don't take the Rebecca Sugar route and ruin it.

Post an example of your art, op

By being surrounded by people who hate it as much as you do.

:^)

draw something OP

This is very important. Or post something you have drawn.

...

this, show us somethin neat

Better hope you're a good artist or a mediocre artist with great dick-sucking skills

break up with her. Some of the hottest babes at CalArts are in animation
>source: Im a SVA fag currently getting nudes from a CalArts girl

Congratulations! You have begun your contribution to the downfall of animation as an artform.

>high school relationship
user I have some bad news..

Congratulations, senpai.

Well, what are you doing to help?

Masturbate

I second this idea.

post pics

Sorry your HS sweetheart is going to cheat on you while you are away at college.

>Assuming it's his HS sweetheart.

Also, going to college right after high school is stupid. Why do people still fall for that?

>Posts Envelope
>Could be rejection letter

What type of bug is that

a cuddlebug

youtube.com/watch?v=7HjGdNpTR0E

If you work really hard and show some initiative you might even be able to work on your own commercial to make a perscription drug that causes liver failure look like it's worth taking

That's nice like some rice

but he might make the next Abilify girl, and give us another flavor of the month we can shoot our goo to

>Also, going to college right after high school is stupid. Why do people still fall for that?
They think the world works on a schedule and if they don't follow the schedule they'll fall behind and become failures or something. Blame society, shit faggots on here still laugh at the idea of community college when it's the best way to decide where you want to go in life

Bop the kitty.

Good for you user! I live not too far from cal arts.

But honestly why do people pay 60,000 a year to draw when you learn online? I know a lot of folks who went and they are deep and debt and can't find anything. But I know a few who work at Disney so it's up to you

You going to accepted student day tomorrow?

I've got a goliath kicking around somewhere. I raise them as pets, then pin them when they die of old age.

It makes me cool, I hope.

youtube.com/watch?v=4xz2Ytfnaeo

I thought OP was trying to show us specifically that he CAN'T draw. Isn't that the point?

And I also have a Cal Arts letter, but because I already make good money at an ad agency and I'm 30 now, I decided to just keep doing my own thing.

Congrats sir or madam

>not having a successful relationship that lasts through high school and college
unfucking lucky dude

Can you post your work? I would understand if you don't want to risk losing some anonymity but I would really like to see what it takes to get into Calarts.

Not OP, but look up sketchbook videos on Youtube for recent years, and almost all the students have blogs. Older years aren't as helpful b/c what the schools looks for in applications changes.

>But honestly why do people pay 60,000 a year to draw when you learn online? I know a lot of folks who went and they are deep and debt and can't find anything. But I know a few who work at Disney
> a few who work at Disney

Sounds like the debtors got the better deal.

Networking. Sometimes it's worth the cost in crowded industries.

Yea that's pretty cool, thsnks. I dint know they had to submit a sketch book to get in. Thats a good idea. Its too late for me to apply, I already have a degree in English. Buy I always wanted to know if I had the salt or portfolio for a good art school. This is way I am working on now. Could I het in to calarts Sup Forums.

I like yer art
better than Hitler maybe

There are students with other, unrelated sometimes, degrees that still go. Can't really tell if you could get in with just one drawing or not, but probably not if this is what all your art looks like. They really like pictures that show a story and don't really care if it's technically right or not, the school wants people to caricature more.

Let me give you the same rundown I gave to the other guy who got accepted to CalArts

>Also let me not meme for a second. I'm going to give you a quick rundown on everything I wish I could go into a real animation school knowing if I lived in a perfect fantasy world.

>Start studying principles and foundations right now. Not necessarily "how to draw" but how to animate--look at the guides by the Nine Old Men, or if you're a contrarian, the guides by Norman McLaren. Start watching all of the films of Windsor McKay, or if you're a contrarian, Emile Cohl. Start studying the stylistic art movements of the twentieth century, most notably German Expressionism and Italian Futurism. Understand the psychological meanings behind these movements and think about how they would apply to animation, and what the psychological meanings of today's animated styles might imply. Read theory on narrative storytelling, Jung and Campbell.

>I'm going to a good university in a general film program I got a scholarship to. I'm saving a lot of money; you aren't. There are going to be a lot of quirky dork girls who don't know about animation beyond how they "grew up with Sailor Moon." Outshine them, get the Cum Laude, and break into the industry and sort out our shit.

I don't think I could. My digital stuff looks so static, and its hard finding the time to paint w/ actual paint. My sketch book is a mess. I do want to draw a comic one day through. Thanks for the info. Im just curious is all.

Good luck, and don't eat the food there the campus has been fucking quarantined like 3 times in the last couple years

ofc. if you do ever apply, use your sketchbook to fuck around in and experiment with differnt stuff, pastel, watercolor, gouache. Doesn't matter if you know digital or not, lot of people that don't and still get in. comics are good, telling a story

the school isn't like that. it's good advice to read and everything, but you learn a lot from your classmates (all who are beyond just growing up with sailor moon). it's competitive yeah, but also pretty friendly. Also should watch a lot of films though and look at the stories, Calarts is more known for story in the industry, not actual animation.

the entomologist in me appreciates you

the spurned artist in me loathes you

I wish you luck

Rather good art for little, than absolutely fucking shit tier piece of shit Calarts.

good job, now rise above the mean, faggot, go create something that isn't noodle-armed "lol so randumb" trash

make Sup Forums proud

Thanks man. Enjoy calarts (if this is open or other calarts person)

Make sure you get your sleep

How do you get in user

> create something that isn't noodle-armed "lol so randumb" trash

>make Sup Forums proud

pick one

And a guaranteed showrunner on CN, Disney XD, or Nickelodeon

The most important part of this school is connections. Make connections while you're there, op.

>17% acceptance rate
>right now trying to apply to art school that has about

What school?

>people influenced by Sup Forums will someday make their own shows
Your success makes me feel good artanons, thanks.

>tfw accepted but too poor even with financial aid
>don't want to be a debtslave
>family is unsuportive so on my own

who are you quoting?

Most showrunners on cartoon network come from CalArts grads =/= most CalArts grads are showrunners

This isn't a difficult concept user, I know you can get it if you really try.

>Community College

Lol, enjoy taking shitty classes with literal criminals and people no other school would take (actual degenerates and dregs)

Also
>taking a gap year

Taking a gap year from what? The most easy 4 years of your life?

There's always next year.

it's fine arts school in my country no one gives a shit about except people living here

>California
>Institute of the
>Arts

You don't get to bring friends.

20 years of crippling debt?
Being unable to find a job related to your degree?
Depression and regret?
I mean don't get me wrong, you do you, but don't expect a pat on the back from us of all people.
Congratulations op.

Don't forget the ketchup packets when you're bagging those orders, OP.

Is it really $60,000 US buckaroonies to finish your degree or is everyone just memeing? Does the government pay for any of it? Because holy fuck how are you supposed to deal unless your rich daddy pays for half/all of it?

Draw porn. Get a Patreon.

>YOUR SUCCESS IS ACTUALLY A FAILURE BECAUSE I SAY SO!!! YOU SHOULD JUST FAIL FROM THE OUTSET LIKE ME!! WE'RE BOTH LOSERS HERE!
Neets man...

>Because holy fuck how are you supposed to deal unless your rich daddy pays for half/all of it?
Here's the best part:
You can't.

Looks like you've spared me the trouble of guessing.

People like you are why debt slavery is fucking acceptable.

>student debt
>crippling
>implying you have to pay it if you can't afford to

shit it's almost like you never actually went to college

Ok here's the real facts since this thread is full of middle school jocks and backwater contrarians.

A bachelor's degree takes about 3-4 years at 16 credit hours per semester. Universities charge per credit hour up to 12 credit hours per semester, at which point you pay 'full time' tuition.

Full-time tuition is about $5000 per semester for in-state residents, $10,000 for out of state. At least that's what it was at my state school. Private colleges will be more.

The US Government offers financial aid. Pell Grant is basically a free $2000 per semester for your first six years. On top of that there are federal student loans with a current loan cap of $56,000.

You can take your first two years at a community college, which will generally charge $150-250 per credit hour, making it a much cheaper option.

Student loans are, by default, a 10-year loan with a repayment period that starts 6 months after your last full-time semester. However, there are many options for people who can't afford the payments (read: everyone). Most notably, income-based repayment plans can lower your minimum payment to ZERO with proof of income. Working for a non-profit or government organization for 10 years while making payments makes you eligible for loan forgiveness. Making payments for 20 years will also make you eligible for forgiveness on the rest of your loan.

this is true, they put them in there because the 30-year-old looser guys in big studios want young puss to knock up, and these STRONK WYMIN types suck dick for jobs.

>t. 30 year old looser guy :^)

...

You sound jelly.

>being jelly of any of that

I more envy the people who were just posting their comics online and got hired by Harvey Beaks or Regular Show to be storyboard artists. Hell that's pretty close to what Greenblatt did when he sent some of his comics to Nickelodeon when they were looking for board artists on Spongebob.

You don't have to pay out the ass or get into massive debt to be in the industry.

I wonder if it'd be weird to go there as a 35 year old man.
