>giving movies sound is like putting lipstick on the Venus de Milo
She's right

what do you think about Meryl Streep

ooh! stinky!!

Absolutely stunning!

What did Streep achieve? Oscarbait?

She is a force to be reckoned with!

Katharine Hepburn hated Meryl Streep calling Streep her least favorite modern actress. quoted as referring to Streep’s acting skills as 'click, click, click' meaning that you can always see the wheels turning in her head.

like most actors it doesn't matter how good/great or whatever the person is, it's all about the end product

never gave a shit about her, but she's good in adaptation, and that's all I wanted

what do you think about Katharine Hepburn

numale

Streep is the soyboys' favorite actress

The reason Megaautist loves Streep so much is because she defends pedos

They haven't, megaliar

I liked it, but DAMN! #4 on Rotten Tomatoes? As in like the fourth BEST FILM EVER MADE?! In fact, it's one of the few movies to have a score has high as 99%! Empire ranked it at Number ONE for 2017! I can accept that it's the best COMEDY HORROR movie ever made, I wouldn't agree, but if that's your preference, I totally get it, but one of the best films of all time? It's just The Stepford Wives with black people in it. There's hundreds of black movies out there, I don't see what THIS ONE did that made it so special. I think of it as a movie with some really good funny scenes. I love when the lead is talking to his friend, I love when his friend goes to the office, basically I love all the scenes with the lead's friend! But a large percentage of the film is without him. I don't care much for all the stuff with the haunted family, and the whole part where the lead is in the house realizing what's up, I thought it was flat out dull! I actually find certain portions of this movie to be boring and wish it was cut shorter. To me, lots of the tone and dialogue comes off as pretentious. It just sounds like they're trying SO HARD to make it SO MEANINGFUL and escalate it to a higher art. I've rewatched it several times and I still don't see a whole lot more than just "Black man fights the white men", "The white men corrupts the black men", "The white man dies", "The black man gets caught", etcetera. What is the deeper meaning and why does that deeper meaning beat out so many other films ALL with deep meanings? Many people analyzed the themes, but I don't see how you can't analyze tons of OTHER films the same way and find just as many themes. What about the themes in Avatar?

Whoops!

Oops! :)

>one academic is all academics

There are several sources there. Now shoo, reddit.

What the fuck did I just stumble into?

You don't belong here

For a minute, I thought that was the water champ and personality champ.

What's funny, is that chads likely don't even know this meme exists. Only "virgins" produce them.

HER STUNNING, BRIGHT, AND HEART WARMING PERSONALITY :o

Calm down, turns out it wasn't the personality champ. I just got confused since they look alike. At least with the glasses on. Same shaped face and smile though.

2-strip technicolor!!!

What's the difference between Technicolor and regular color

>old film.
ugh you bore me

Technicolor is better

>colors to bright
>no contrast
>bad tonal mapping
>awkward composition
2/10

Godfather Part II was 1 of the last technicolor productions

This is why John Ford will always be resolutely mediocre

how can 1 film technicolor if gen z things is outdated?

how to get froggy gf??

Pinstripe is sexy :)

What is the merit of Ozu

His melancholic tone is not unique, his framing is poorly stolen from 1910's films, he spouts the moral of his story directly to the camera, and his narrative tricks of not showing key information on camera is rendered antithetical when he has his characters speak about it instead. His implementation is also one-dimmensional since what is shown is clearly the emphasis and in doing so, overemphasized. His range is also highly limited as evident in his reused couple themes and sequel/remake films that are endlessly interchangeable.

That it is key narrative information he deliberately rejects to visualize is particularly why it his implementation is one-dimmensional and shallow. When you expand, you become thinner and more transparent, more obvious. Your obfuscaton becomes corrupted and transforms into projection.

The match cut in 2001 is a prime example of this detrimental expansion.
>Dude 1+1=evolution lmao
Good elliptical abstraction of context is in Broken Blossoms when Richard Bathelmess' character makes the elliptical transition from the opening city's spreading of religious principle to the latter portion's port and his shop. It is a transition that is not immediately registered. Eisenstein's October is another example of clever abstraction, abstraction with near-complete lack of establishment.

I've always considered Ozu and Kubrick close cousins, achievement and quality notwhithstanding. They each deserve an award for the sheer breadth of their efforts in calculating superficiality.

Mr. Original Doggy gives 12 Angry Men a 2 1/12 star rating

Griffith would often employ these elliptical jumps in time, much to the chagrin of viewers conditioned by passively absorptive narrative. Take for example another one in his Biographs, Female of the Species. Here, after the lover's husband is murdered offscreen, we see a jump in time after the burial with a couple of the center tree stems cut off. This is Griffith not only retaining narrative, he is also signifying with his edits.

letterboxd.com/Smoothhands/

The slightest of changes in these ordered deeply staged tableaus not only show Griffith's appreciation for his audience's intellects and attention spans no matter how foolishly unwarranted, he is also enabling space for him to create contrast without the dialectic edit.
