Ozymandias did nothing wrong

Ozymandias did nothing wrong.

Fucker killed Bubastis

Bonus Manhattan dick

Ok.

His password choice was certainly uninspired.

He was a mary sue.

This. Did absolutely nothing to stop Manhattan, and he should have known it wouldn't.

>killing innocents is ok

He did it to save magnitudes more innocents from a nuclear holocaust.

except killing innocents still isn't ok

you can do something wrong and something right, but that doesn't mean you did nothing wrong

Could have been a little more somber about killing millions of people.

Why didn't he just ask Dr. Mangina to stop the nukes?

>Killing a few to save thousands of times more isn't ok

Fuck off

He already DID the only thing that could reliably stop Manhattan, which was to attack him emotionally and drive him off the planet.

It's not as if he could envision his and Laurie's conversation on Mars.

The Intrinsic Field Subtractor was simply the only thing on the planet that could conceivably fuck his shit up, and he even admitted he felt it was a long shot.

except killing innocents still isn't ok

you can do something right and something wrong, but that doesn't mean you did nothing wrong

>Every other character dicks around and focus on the death of somebody nobody ever liked
>Manhattan fucks off to Mars
>Ozymandias actually got shit done

The book addresses this point. Basically Manhattan could stop a few hundred, or maybe even a thousand, but he wouldn't be able to stop all of them. Tens of thousands would still get threw.

Ozymandias didn't care about stopping nuclear war, he wanted to be remembered for doing something incredible. If he really cared he would have found a solution that didn't involve killing off an entire city. He helped prevent nuclear war, but he's still an abhorrent human being

Manhattan was so detached he would not have interfered at that point.

But who gave this narcissistic costumd clown the right to make this decision?
And even then, he created a fake peace based on a lie, there's absolutely no guarantee that it could last other than his own delusions.

Yeah that's his fault.
It's all Ozymandias' fault for assuming the course of events FORCING them to unfold then changing the outcome by committing his own atrocity and dubbing the lesser evil.

He may have stopped nuclear war, but he didn't consider how long his plan would last.

It would only be a matter of time before people would just go back to fighting anyhow.

Ozy gave it to himself. He had the power to at least delay the destruction of the human race, and he acted on it. Waiting for permission that would never come would have just been accepting defeat.

It's not like he's going to on his hands after the events of the book. His plan bought time, maybe enough for a more permanent solution.

>Sped up the clock
>To buy time

...

This. He didn't give a damn about nuclear war until the comedian insulted his ego.

>to save
Zero evidence the bombs would drop for a fact.

Yes, because historically speaking, mankind frequently builds whole arsenals of weapons they never ever use.

But if he wanted to be remembered then why did he work in secret and swear Laurie and Dan to secrecy? He let Rorschach go with the understanding that Manhattan would kill him or he would freeze to death.

Well it hasn't happened yet.

Yet...

Look, if you want to talk current events take it somewhere else. This is a Watchmen thread

The point is Ozymandias was sure that if he did nothing, then there would be nuclear war, but that was the same thing everyone during the cold war was thinking.
In the end nothing happened even when nobody united. Half the world has nukes and everyone still hates each other.
The world hasn't ended.

Ozymandias was wrong

I personally took that to mean that he didn't care enough to even try stopping them all.

He created a power vacuum that will never be filled and destroy society, eventually.

Think about it. Everyone making and pointing more guns at the sky, waiting for the next enemy. Society is going to lose it.

You think things were bad when the citizens were only afraid of WW3 among themselves? Wait until they can't even fathom the next attack from space.

>Manhattan keeps to his word and makes humans in some far off galaxy.
>Because of his presence they advance beyond anything mankind can fathom and inhabit multiple planets and solar systems
>After charting the universe they become curious whether life exists naturally on other planets not spawned from their own society
>Eventually ask their candid omnipotent patriarch about the history of their creation.
>Decide to visit their cousin race
>Immediately met with paranoia and violent hostility
>The physics warping technology of the Manhattan Humans far exceeds anything Earth could engineer
>Earth-Humans wiped out.
Bravo, Adrian.

He found wrong solution to the
According to the history more safe way to stop nuclear war is to place sane leaders to lead major world powers.

Looks like OP didn't understand the countdown. Pleb

>more safe way to stop nuclear war is to place sane leaders to lead major world powers.
If Garth Ennis' The Boys is any indication of things, yes I know how that sounds, most people don't want authority figures who are sane in power. They want puppets who will pass the bills you want to allow you to pursue interests or pressure people looking into your work to stop. Even at the risk of jeopardizing the fate of an entire country if not world.

You're absolutely right though in that had Adrian spent more time training that circle of devoted Asian eunuchs at his antarctic base to covertly join and influence various political factions who would subsequently continue the selection and pruning process for their own circle and successors instead of just monologuing his psychotic ramblings after feeding them lethal poison he might have achieved a better, longer lasting result.

But Veidt being a fanboy it's ever the Alexandrian approach to Gordian Knot issues.

>tfw not sure if stealth The Expanse thread or not

This. For the smartest man in the world, he certainly didn't grasp the obvious security risk of making his password an obvious tie in to his theme. It's like Bruce wayne making his batcomputer password "Bats"

I can't prove it, but I always got the impression he wanted Rorschach to discover his scheme the same way he wanted The Comedian to so he could justify harming, ruining and killing them.

Especially since in both cases things seem to conveniently fall at their feet, further involving them in the fiasco whether they want to be or not, after they bruise Adrian's ego.

It's especially suspicious in Rorschach's case because when he visits Veidt the first time he breaks into the place via the window. So Adrian obviously was aware of his sneaking habits and could have put up security measures if he wanted, but didn't.

In fact much like how the locks from Gordian Knot Locks co., a company under Veidt Enterprises, puts up locks that entice Rorschach to break and enter, leaving evidence of his activities, but never actually obstruct him it almost seems like an intentional design flaw.

I'm not sure if Adrian really banked on Walter dying in prison though.

This, Ozy is the only hero who even addresses the global catastrophe they're all facing. Manhattan was content to mess with atoms, Dan would've just hung out reading about birds, and Rorsharch was a useless lunatic beating up small time thugs. What Ozy did was reprehensible but the whole point of the book is that he does something while the others choose to do jack shit.

...

Fuck sake, you blind blithering twit.

The Comedian was informed and involved in the matter well before Adrian was aware or doing anything about it. He in fact is the one who points out to the others that their nonsense is completely ineffectual, what could Dan even do about international conflicts aside from burn his little trust-fund at the problem until he's arrested and/or killed? Something by the way the Keene act fully legalize in case you forget given it would fall under vigilante activity as Nite Owl, and if he did it as plain Mr.Dreiberg it would be flat out conspiracy.

Manhattan like Eddie was also a government agent. He was "content to mess with atoms" because the work he was doing at the research center was specifically commissioned by the government. He was even told before the interview to keep his mouth shut on the matter of the Cold War because admittedly they had him on standby but did not want to instigate a hostile reaction by making their views known on the news.

Adrian solved nothing, Adrian killed everyone taking responsibility so he could force the remainder to play a game of pretend with him where he's the hero of a story that never happened.

I always thought it would be funny if it turns out that there was a problem and it actually hasn't happened yet.
>He tries to convince Rorschach and Nite Owl that the cameras are on a 40-minute delay

...

>He invites them back in after an hour, but forgets where he left off in his speech so he just starts over
>It turns out that he still didn't activate it right

>He finally thinks he got it right
>all it does is teleport a regular squid onto a street
