Ackbar could have been presented out-thinking/out-maneuvering their pursuers using superior knowledge and tactics, say for instance leading the chase through an extensive debris field like the remains of Coruscant and the other worlds destroyed in the previous film, with Poe and the other Resistance pilots deployed against the smaller ships being dispatched by the order to harry them while Snoke's ship, too big to maneuver through the debris, is slowed to a snail's pace by having to clear a path of the larger asteroids, not realizing that the
Rebels are capturing, smaller, seemingly inconsequential debris, outfitting it with maglocks and explosives, and re-releasing it into the Supremacy's path for it to adhere unnoticed to the massive ship's hull.

It was never an escape route. It was an elaborate trap all along.
