This was actually the best thing that's happened to Star Wars in a long time and the triggered butthurt of the fanchildren proves it. Finally they dared to step out of the tropes a little. Sure, the plot has holes, there's not enough exposition and some of the dialogue is cringe as fuck, but that applies to some degree to every Star Wars film.
Bravo Rian Johnson, you managed to breathe some life to a thing that was stuck in severe rigor mortis.
Colton Campbell
fuck you user
Nicholas Edwards
>movie was so shit it was actually good
This isn't The Room user.
Adam Reed
Kylo Ren just straight up does the "join me and together we can rule the galaxy" thing from Empires though
Thomas Rogers
Nah it’s shit.
Connor Johnson
>trusting the guy who made Brick and Looper with a multibillion dollar franchise nononononono no no noooooo haHAHAHAHGAHAHAHhhhhhhAAAAAAAAHA
Leo King
Movie was brilliant except for what they did to Luke
Cameron Cruz
It doesn't mater what sort of director they are so long as they can follow the directions of whatever comittee they put in charge
Leo Williams
This so much, I really loved how they made Luke a flawed character who made mistakes. And I was near clapping when Luke was talking about how extremely flawed the Jedi order was.
TLJ is pleb filter
Jack Thompson
>What if we just took a character from Kotor 2, made it worse, and pasted Luke's face on it lmao It's shit
Logan Gutierrez
I unironically agree, OP. The people who hate this the most seem to be the types of people who just want the new movies to be a series of “wink wink remember this from the OT.” We all knew these new movies could never live up to the originals. I’m glad they’re doing something new
Cooper Perry
shills get out. Stop producing garbage and you won't have to defend it.
Jayden Hill
I disagree, I think I liked how they had luke as a broken and flawed character who eventually regains his faith in the force and redeems himself by sacrificing himself to save the remain rebels.
John Jenkins
Are people mad about the Kylo, Luke, and Ray stuff? Those were the only sort of interesting things about the movie. Everything else was a hot mess. The damn movie couldn't decide if it wanted to be a comedy or a melodrama and I was bored to tears.
Levi Sullivan
Yep. The people losing their shit over it are coming off like crybabies who can't let go of their own precious headcanons.
Angel Anderson
You liked the whole White Bronco freeway chase plot?
Brayden Torres
More like pleb filler. Luke would've never tried to kill Ren even as an instinct. Nu-Luke would have.
TLJ is a great filter to tell real SW fans, real SW fanboys and complete utter retards apart.
Angel Cook
I just saw it and I unironically think this is true. Most of the people I was with though didn't seem to care for it and I noticed something talking to them, all their complaints were "i wanted to know who snoke is!" "Rey should be a skywalker!" basically they were butthurt the movie didn't validate their fan theories.
To be fair JJ did set up snoke and rey's parents as mysteries in TFA but I like that Rian didn't predictably pay them off. I'm sure if JJ did make it the whole movie would have been us finding out how literally everyone and everything is connected to something in the OT and fans would be cumming all over the theater but instead Rian said fuck all that and gave us a good character focused story instead.
Brayden Russell
Parts of the Finn/Rose plot really dragged for me. I liked the characters themselves, although I really didn't need to get some sappy backstory from Rose. She and her sister are in the Resistance and her sister died and now she's alone. That's all I need. I already like her, you don't have to keep adding. But overall it felt like everything they did at best affected nothing and at worst got people killed, which is kind of a bummer. Phasma turning from New Boba Fett into the queen of the incompetent retards is kind of incredible and I hope they bring her back in IX just to job her out again.
All of the Luke/Kylo/Rey stuff completely hit home for me, although I kinda didn't understand why Luke died. Did he just expend too much energy on that Force Illusion or what?
I really enjoyed it, but, hell, I enjoyed TFA for being an ANH reboot too, so. I guess I'm probably just easy to please.
Christopher Perez
>instinct he literally looked into his mind and saw that snoke had turned him and he was gonna fuck everything up.
Adrian Taylor
>Hahahah epic bro it triggered the fanboys, so much fucking win!! XD
Enjoy cheesy awkward humor and quips and villains who are evil just ‘cuz, that get taken down by TEH ABENGERS who have no flaws, no human growth just pew pew, bam bam
Jaxon Sanchez
Kill yourself you retarded disney shill. Your the literal child thinking their idiotic fuckery is good
Jacob Thomas
You deserve to get shot for your retarded shit taste
Grayson Thompson
>fanchildren Says the cuck making star wars threads on Sup Forums
Angel Jenkins
>dared to step out of the tropes And do nothing to improve upon them. Thus goes postmodernist deconstructionism. Just "LEL LETS SUBVERT OLD TROPES FOR LE EPIC TWEEST EX DEEEE". >made Luke a flawed character who made mistakes He was already flawed in a good way in the OT. He had youthful naivete and rash impulsiveness for the first two movies. Also he wasn't a perfect Force user from the beginning, despite being Vader's son. Dude fugged up or got rekt, or had to be saved quite a bit. Luke is a prime example of the Hero's Journey. From call to adventure, to stepping out of his known world, to experiencing challenges and temptations and being transformed by those and multiple revelations about his lineage, the Force, his sister, etc, and so on.
Adrian James
Second part meant for Pic related is basic structure of Hero's Journey.
Bentley Thomas
>no human growth Kylo, Rey, and Luke all had great arcs and lot's of growth. Kylo especially in this film. He's literally being a better Anakin than Anakin as far as character goes. Also they're all deeply flawed wtf?
Leo Reyes
Lmao space leia, retarded coward finn, ugly fat asian, rey is super powered for no reason, snoke is no one, poe exists to be put in his place by strong women.
Camden Harris
The Room is way better than TLJ. Not kidding.
Joshua Scott
Close it was actually brilliant except for the Leia scene. Thanks for playing though.
Ethan Sanchez
Agreed. EU was a mistake. Lucas and JJ are both hacks
David Myers
TFA was bad because it followed too closely in Episode IV's footprints.
TLJ is bad on its own terms, for the most part. I have a lot more respect for Rian Johnson for that, but it's still a bad flick.
Nolan Smith
But the nu-Star Wars has all been just nod wink references to the trilogy. By your logic, we should love The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.
It didn't step out of tropes, it stepped out of Star Wars and even good film making.
Brody Price
>poe exists to be put in his place by strong women. By the end, he's literally leading the resistance
Cooper Fisher
>has incredible plot propulsion powers >never uses it in the movie again What did they mean by this?
Parker Foster
>He's literally being a better Anakin than Anakin as far as character goes
lol Anakin had a reason to be an edgelord, Kylo is just LARPing
Leo Hernandez
>TLJ was good because it shook things up and "managed to breathe some life" into Star Wars
Yeah sure great I hear you, but the problem is the story has nowhere to fucking go now. All that's left is for Rey to kill Kylo. So if the goal was to set the stage for all new stories, it fucking failed, because the story is essentially over.
Rian Johnson vigorously tilled the topsoil and then paved over it with fucking concrete.
Oliver Wilson
>tropes
If your understanding of what makes something good is DUDE SUBVERT THE TROPES LMAO, you need to go back to TV Tropes and think about why you're retarded.
Joseph Nguyen
>Anakin had a reason to be an edgelord I'm assuming this is b/c his mother got ooga booga'd by sand niggers back on what he might refer to as "The bad place where course, rough sand gets in ur buttcrack and makes you never wanna come back"? >different guy than who you're replying to btw
Carter Myers
Im confosed though, dont you see how Luke's arc in TLJ better follows the heroes journey. What better represents the Abyss then luke being secluded on that island then finally returning and sacrificing himself to save the resistance. Luke's only mistakes he made in the OT were trying to fight Vader when he wasnt strong enough, which is still a very positive and heroic mistake. Much different then the grey area of contemplating murdering you nephew after foreseeing that he is turning to the darkside and will become Darth Vader 2.0
Levi Parker
actaully laughed
Caleb Barnes
that too but mostly his wife was going to die
Matthew Sanders
i unironically agree
this film was so bizarre and weird it managed to excite me more than the last 5 star wars movies combined
Justin Flores
>I'm happy that Snoke is just some guy that got insanely powerful and influential somehow!
Juan Howard
Not really I liked the grey area of it. Luke was scared that he would be training another darth vader and after all Obi-Wan was his mentor for a while and he had probably thought for some time how did Obi-Wan allow anakin to turn to the darkside. In his moment of weakness he considered killing Kylo. I see it as similar to the baby Hitler moral dilemma.
Justin Flores
Except they didn’t step out of the tropes. They remade Empire, except shittier.
Aiden Turner
>ESB played in reverse, with the ROTJ emperor scenes inserted in the middle >fresh and new
Ayden Johnson
Besides some minor gripes I really liked it, sure I could nitpick little things here and there but overall I had a good time, and it worked. Tonally works better miles above force awakens, felt like what a star wars made in 2017 should be
Carson Butler
>people just dont like it because we--they tried something new!
so is this the next phase of disney damage control shilling?
Joshua Young
Not a chance buddy. There wasnt even any lightsaber fights in this fucking film. And what the fuck is up with them fighting like swordsmen from the 5th century. I thought they were trained in the arts of the Jedi. They are just swinging their swords around with no skill but brute force Also, this is supposed to be a fucking galaxy full of life. This fills like it takes place in a solar system with humans being 90% of the population. The worldbuilding Lucas so brilliantly made has vanished into this Disney black hole of mediocrity. FUCK THIS MOVIE
Hudson Ward
*You're
Levi Wilson
>Sure, the plot has holes, there's not enough exposition and some of the dialogue is cringe as fuck yes... and that's all its -- ABJECT SCHLOCK.
it's nothing to do with muh "nostalgia" meme, you whelp of a kike whore -- that' died with the prequels, faggot. it's about A RACE TO THE BOTTOM IN THE MONKEY-GRUBBING, DEVIANT, KIKE-FILLED ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY, AND THE ENSUING DUMBING-THE-FUCK DOWN OF SOCIETY WITH A DIET OF AURAL-VISUAL AUTISM.
...YOU FUCKING CANCEROUS CUNT!!
Jayden Reed
Nah. All force users good and bad will have to die to truly bring balance to the force.
Luis Taylor
You know the Emperor was exactly that before the prequels fleshed out his backstory, right? I don't understand why this complaint is so common. We know nothing about Palpatine in the OT. He isn't even CALLED Palpatine in the movies.
He serves a means to an end, you don't need to see scenes of him at a senate meeting debating trade laws.
Liam Rogers
>needed more jokes >needed more references to old star wars movies >too long
Hudson Taylor
Movie frames it as a moral dilemma but everything we're shown just tells us that the galaxy would be better off if he had murdered the child.
Dylan Moore
>why are you so mad i forced all of you to continuously shovel shit in your mouths, your all fucking plebs, PLEBS I TELL YOU i hope you die of an anus rupture from the sheer assrape you get on a regular basis you stupid ass faggot fuccboi.
Carson Kelly
Good thing Broom Boy is around so he can never learn of Sith or Jedi and essentially be a grey jedi.
You see what Disney is doing right? Rules are anti-fun. The Jedi Code? That's not fun. They need to make a universe where you can just be a "force user" with a lightsaber and call it a day, because it's more fun for the kids. You don't really need training either, because that's boring, you can just use the force. Everybody going forward is just a grey jedi in all but name.
Jason Young
>dared to step out of the tropes a little. ???
Hudson King
>Luke goes into his nephew's room and wants to murder him because he felt the temptation of the dark side in him.
>it's supposed to be the same luke, who tried to bring back darth vader to the light, darth vader was a sith for 20 years did a lot of evil things, yet luke believed he could change, there is stil enough good inside him, to turn him away from the darkness luke was right
so disneycucks please explain me, how does it make any sense, that luke considers even for a second murdering kylo, who is just a 17-18 years old kid
for me that was the point i can't accept, every other issue is a minor nitpicking compared to that coloossal failure in understanding the characters. the writers cearly don't care about the world
Camden Morales
Very much this. People have rose tinted glasses for the fucking prequels it's ridiculous.
Gabriel Martin
thin milf hyperspace weapon endboss made me so filled with lust
Cameron Stewart
It amazes me that every time someone has to step up to defend this film, they start by vehemently attacking anyone with a negative review, and then fail to actually convince people that there are remarkable qualities.
Its almost like all of the people defending the movie come from that good ol' 8th grade reading level.
Samuel Garcia
You're fucking trolling if you think Rian Johnson understands The Hero's Journey better then Joseph fucking Campbell, writing consult on the Original Trilogy, and author of Hero With A Thousand Faces.
The Abyss, as you call it, is about 'death of the ideal' and being reborn anew because of it. Luke's death of ideals happens because of Yoda - but he overcomes it when he leaves Dagobah, despite not being ready to face Vader. It's not about a gray area of mistakes, because the hero's journey shouldn't HAVE gray areas - it's not what the structure is design for. Luke was compelling because he is dead on, one of the most perfect examples of the Hero's Journey.
>Call to Adventure when he meets Ben Kenobi >The Force aids him >Aunt and Uncle are killed, he begins to learn the Force (Threshold) >Meets Han (The Helper, who aids them fleeing Tatooine) and Obi-Wan (The Mentor) >Before the Abyss, meets Yoda (Another Helper), who teaches him older ways of the Force >Begins to despair of his own ideals due to what occurs on Dagobah, but is reborn when he senses his friend's troubles (Abyss) >Start of ROTJ, is very different both physically and mentally, more serious (Transformation) >Saves Han and Leia (Atonement) >Faces off against Vader and the Emperor, and Vader turns against the Emperor (Atonement/Gift) >Vader and Han help Luke flee the Death Star before it explodes, and he returns to the Rebellion (Return)
Luke's arc in TLJ doesn't even follow the opening silo of The Hero's Journey.
Adrian Smith
And Palpatine getting fleshed out is one of the few parts of the prequels that people generally enjoy
Henry Ross
Because McDiarmid is the only actor who gives an actual performance, and his character is consequently the most human and relatable. Not because prequel Sheev is a well written or interesting character. Even in those movies his motivation is never clearly explained, outside of "unlimited power" which is pretty weak.
Adam Turner
Has much more entertainment value and less pointless scenes edited in just for "woke politics" sake, that's for sure.
Dylan Davis
The difference is that the Emperor was menacing before he even shows up on screen. Darth Vader is introduced as an intimidating and ruthless agent of the dark side, and for someone to be pulling his strings alludes to all of his power without even explanation. The Emperor commands entire fleets and legions because he overthrew the Old Republic and purged the Senate of all rivals.
Snoke has no menacing details. We don't know exactly what he did or how he managed to get a fleet of ships. There is no backdrop presented in the ST to explain anything, unlike the OT which explains everything as it moves along.
This Snoke/Sheev comparison is a lame defense. The PT could have never happened, and Sheev would have still been a badass. Snoke will never be a badass.
John Butler
>luke is headstrong and impatient, leading to getting mutilated and tortured on separate occasions >in the climax of the last film he appeared in (outside of TFA cameo), he's being electrocuted and all of his friends are going to die because he did something reckless against better judgement if it weren't for vader's heel-face turn, he would have fucked the whole galaxy, and this is after his arch in the original trilogy
Brandon Morales
The original argument was that Snoke doesn't have enough backstory, not that he is a "cool" character. The Palpatine comparison is very appropriate because Snoke is literally filling his role.
Luis Adams
After they check with leia first
Adrian Carter
Youre a retarded fuck user.
Charles Moore
>And do nothing to improve upon them. Thus goes postmodernist deconstructionism. Just "LEL LETS SUBVERT OLD TROPES FOR LE EPIC TWEEST EX DEEEE".
If they wanted to subvert this shit the right way luke should've been snoke.
Adam Ross
I understand this, but at least Emps gets to be properly threatening before he bites it Snokeyboy just tells Kylo his helmet looks dumb then dies effortlessly
Owen James
That's exactly what I was thinking. People in this thread are talking about the hero's journey, but this is beyond that. He already went through the hero's journey, it's not about him anymore. He is an old master who has realized that the doctrine he has lived his life for may be flawed. What is "good" or "bad" when it comes to the Force? Would killing an innocent person who is debatably redeemable be ok if it lessens suffering through the Galaxy? Probably yes, but the Jedi way of thinking would be against it. I feel like Luke saw in that moment the flaws of the Jedi/sith interpretation of the force.
Easton Foster
>Emps
Matthew Long
I pretty much agree with this and was going to post this. I really liked the movie, but just hated what they did to Luke, as Mark Hammill said himself
Adam Richardson
>Phasma turning from New Boba Fett into the queen of the incompetent retards is kind of incredible and I hope they bring her back in IX just to job her out again. I also want this

but he's not the screenwriter
Henry Butler
Do alot of first order die in the movie? I need my stormtroopers getting blasted.
Isaiah Cox
who cares, star wars is dead
Jordan King
It's choice kino and I'm going to see it again on Wednesday. I will enjoy a delicious cup of the tears of anally ravaged OT soybabbies and LOST theorist brainlets with my two (2) crab legs. Best franchise film since BvS and I'm legitimately amazed a Disney film has this sort of artistic integrity after churning out the semiannual dishonest shlock pieces that are MCU flicks for the last decade.
Jeremiah Turner
>do something new >new movies are literally the rebellion fighting the empire
Justin Stewart
>two (2) crab legs My man, that is just the right amount
Cameron Robinson
luke established himself, along with the previous screenwriters and directors,as a hero and THE HERO OF THE FILMS YOU FUCKING ASSCLOWN WE DONT NEED TO GO ON THE JOURNEY WHY ARE WE TREADING OLD GROUND
Adrian Anderson
>$210 million opening weekend >dead
do you... do you know what words mean, user?
Nathaniel Jones
underrated post.
Gavin Harris
Rian just went out of his way so much to subvert expectation that he made a shit movie when we all expected a good one. There is nothing even deep or meaningful that the movie is trying to say, no emotion, just pretty visuals (at times), jokes and porgs
Oliver Walker
the series is alive in name alone, brainlet
Nolan Lee
Underperforming
Nathan Price
>Leia’s random tumblr best friend is actually a heroic commander >But she scolds Poe like a passive aggressive SJW professor C U N T instead of just leveling with him and telling him her plan. >As if it was even good >Or needed to be secret
The fucking bitch could have just sent a rebel SEAL team to blow up the tracker but no, Poe had to secretly send two morons to a casino to find some faggot who could h4x the First Order’s flagship somehow. Couldnt just plant charges on it. No, gotta hack it. Where did they even get the uniforms? How do they even remotely look like theyre blending in espcially with the rice ball’s gay gold necklace with the uniform??? FUCK
Bentley Kelly
People only bought tickets because its fucking Star Wars and fans have faith in it is the true cultural American opera story.
This and the botched Battlefront AGAIN. wait for the backlash, its coming.
Zachary Sanchez
literally the opposite of everything you said
Matthew Reed
>wait for the backlash, its coming. Its been going on for the last two days
Aaron Anderson
It's pretty obvious that you care more about the quality of the packaging than the quality of the contents.
Samuel Richardson
>Step out of the tropes.
They stuck to every trope except killing off the big bad guy.
