>Originally announced as running from July to September in an article by its Disney sister company ABC News, Marvel's Generations is now being billed as a two-month project running from August to September according to an advertisement on the back of the Diamond Retailer Summit 2017 Event Guide.
>Questions first arose about this after Generations was absent from Marvel Comics' July 2017 solicitations, but this advertisements seems to confirm the project's postponement one month.

It's Marvel what do you expect the same's probably gonna happen to Secret Empire.

Fuck off! We're a DC board!!

>we

No.

Apparently it's also going to be a part of the "Make Mine Marvel" thing.

>Make Mine Marvel
They're seriously going to call it that?

Waz

>Immediately going back on their word about focusing on classic characters.

Fuck off Sup Forums

Yes, it's them trying to do a "DC's Rebirth" kinda thing apparently.

Look around you

The hivemind commands

Marvel should be purged

When was the last time a Marvel event wasn't delayed?

Oh...what an unforeseen turn of events. I might actually care if Marvel books were worth a damn. Call me when the hard reboot happens along with the layoffs

>Marvel's GENERATIONS has been delayed
Already knew it.

First scooped by Rich the Leech.

you realize if a hard reboot ever happened, it'd contain even more of the stuff you hate about Marvel, right?

If anything, Marvel needs more editors since the 2011 culling has resulted in worse stories.

SIXIS?

dubs agree with you

Everyone would be strong, independent, latina lesbians who would be internet savvy and say things like "Holy Menstruation" to remind you that this is a book for millennial girls.

>2011 culling
Source? Anons (user? you?) mention this in every second Marvel and I've never heard of this before

Agreed, I don't remember a culling in 2011.

>Comic Book Resources has learned that Marvel Comics is expected to lay off as many as 15 people today in what’s being characterized simply as a cost-cutting measure, and not based on performance.

>The layoffs come from the editorial and production departments, and include editors Alejandro Arbona and Jody LeHeup. A Marvel spokesperson offered no comment in response to our inquiries.
Ike had to pinch some pennies.

>The layoffs come from the editorial and production departments
the mystery of marvel "editors" is solved!
here, have a scooby snack, scoob

>generations
>literally zero good legacy characters
What did marvel mean by this?

Kamala's pretty good. Amadeus Cho, Laura, and Falcon were good back when they had their own identities.

comicvine.gamespot.com/alejandro-arbona/4040-42260/issues-cover/ comicvine.gamespot.com/jody-leheup/4040-55808/issues-cover/

It means they want you to like the legacy characters by the end of this story so the old characters can say "I'm glad you've honored my legacy! You're so much better than me!"

>15 assistant editors and logo pasters laid off
I like a little drama as much as the next guy but this sounds ridiculous, drop this shit before you get laughed the fuck out of this board

I also just realised I have no idea how Marvel or DC can actually find an editor who would be both a continuity nut AND a competent person in general. Maybe they should promote Ewing and Waid

That Thor and Thing are not impressed.

Increasing the work load of other people is going to make the quality of that work worse.

>Kamala being femislut muslim trash in Champions/Ciwil war
>Amadeus Cho is literally less interesting Hulk because luck of the only interesting part of the character - Anger
>Falcon is defending illegal refugeers from angry white males
Laura is the okay I guess. But she shouldn't be "Wolverine" It's not a goddamn title. Can't they give her some cool name?

>marvel had gotten so bad that they're delaying things before they even release them now

LMFAO

Will Generations join the marvel studios return bin.

I don't think editors necessarily need to be continuity nut. That's a job where competency is more important.

WOOOOOOOW WHO COULD HAVE POSSIBLY GUESSED

IT'S NOT LIKE THIS COMPANY PRIDES ITSELF ON BEING UNPROFESSIONAL FAGGOTS OR ANYTHING

Continuity IS bread and butter of superhero fiction.

Marvel films got as successful as they did simply on the promise on continuity (whether or not the Avengers movies actually delievered on that is a topic for another thread).

>We decided to do copy what DC did for JL vs SS and crap out these events as fast as possible by having multiple artists and have no delays
>Still have delays
Oh I'm laughing.

I mean maintaining continuity should be the job of the writer, who does the creative stuff and stories, and editors should do the technical stuff like spellchecking and grammar and all that.

Editors are also needed to keep shit like Superman and Barda doing porn from happening.

That's not what a comics editor is, user. Writers are work-for-hire. Editors are there to make sure they keep in line with continuity. You are thinking of "editor" in non-comic terms. A comic writer shouldn't be sending in scripts with spelling errors in the first place. So while yes, the also edit scripts for spelling and grammar, but their biggest job is maintaining continuity and making sure the comics adhere to the company's vision, among many other things of which "spelling and grammar checking" is just a small portion of. Thing is that Big 2 comics have a balancing act of usually different people doing the writing, pencils, inking, lettering, coloring and covers. The editor needs to coordinate between all these people and make sure everyone gets what they need in time to hit their deadlines while everyone doing their part right without mistakes. And they have to do this for multiple books, which is why assistant editors are important to offload some of the more time-consuming but basic tasks like spelling and grammar checking. A lot can slip through the cracks with all those moving pieces. You need good editors to keep that together and competent Assistant Editors for shit like spellchecks. Marvel has a bunch of overworked editors who aren't even that great of an editors on a good day, and a general lack of competent assistant editors. Which makes sense, since the work conditions are terrible and the pay isn't great because Perlmutter is at the helm. If someone was a good editor, they could probably get a better job somewhere other than Marvel.

I see. Thank you for the info user

>Is this self-contained? Is this an alternate timeline?
>In one word: No.
>"These stories do happen, they really count. They really matter. This isn't some alternate reality story or some time-travel story," Alonso explained.

>The series will see current, more diverse or younger heroes, getting “zapped” out of the universe for a second or two, for a one-off adventure with their legacy equivalent character, then return back to the current Marvel Universe. That’s it. Hyping it as more than that could be a mistake. These are feel good all in one

>10-way crossover

this is why everyone hates you now

It's just 9 one-shots about each pair written by the ongoing's writers and a prologue issue to explain how it all happened. Not really a crossover.

Sounds more like a damage controll.
Will this not pressure the shops and fans to order all floppies than see in July that the series doesnt sell this good and correct the numbers for september?

you also have to keep in mind that most books (for the big 2) have at least 2, maybe 3, editors working on them.
a main editor who oversees multiple books, and an assistant editor who does the actual day to day editing (spellcheck, continuity maintenance, deadline adherence)

Brilliantly written user, although your grammar was faulty in some places. You should find an editor.

lol.
You would sacrifice your mother for a joke.
But you have the spirit of Sup Forums!

They're now reporting that ABC News was incorrect in ITS reporting, and that August/September was the intended release date the whole time.

So I guess it took Marvel a whole month to realize ABC said it wrong? Sure.

They are going with "our sister company misinterpreted the information we gave them"? Really? It was literally a month. That, plus them lying about the time travel-ish stuff makes me wonder if anything in that early report was right

sauce?

...

>If someone was a good editor, they could probably get a better job somewhere other than Marvel.

This has pretty much happened. Both Mike Marts and Katie Kubert left Marvel for other publications after their new jobs at Marvel didn't turn out well. I think the only one from DC still there is maybe Will Moss.

The OP link updated:

>Updated April 20, 2017 at 10:27 a.m. Eastern: Since the publication of the original article (below), Marvel has informed Newsarama that ABC News incorrectly reported in their March 24 article that Generations would run from July to September.

>Following Newsarama's initial conversation with Marvel this morning, ABC News updated their original story to read that Generations "launches in August and runs through September." Marvel has confirmed that as the current and original planned schedule for Generations.

How do you delay something that was stillborn?

>That, plus them lying about the time travel-ish stuff makes me wonder if anything in that early report was right

not the first time

>ABC News was incorrect in ITS reporting, and that August/September was the intended release date the whole time

>I-it's not delayed!
>Our sister channel misreported it!
HOUSE OF LIES STRIKES AGAIN!

Sasuga.

Marvel Comics editors and interns are on an all-time low.

Who cares? It's going to be shit like everything Marvel produces.

>They're now reporting that ABC News was incorrect in ITS reporting
How could one company JUST itself so much in the span of a year? Oh, for a moment I forgot who's in charge right now.

Why are there only men?
Thats sexist.

Sana Amanat has also done her fair share to ruin Marvel by encouraging the replacement of classic heroes with diversity.

did it have an original date? it makes more sense post-secret empire anyway.

whatever, they're hastily revamping it to be a silver age hand job bc people online have complained so much. it might not be a disaster but yeah....

>turning a story about a delay into fake news

So this is the power of Marvel Comics.

Ike: "TELL THEM IT WAS FAKE NEWS! ALWAYS WORKS FOR MY BUDDY!"

>Getting rid of those What If books
signs of a true pleb to be honest

>That brought the discussion back to the decay in sales over time. "What do you want us to do?," Gabriel asked. "Look at Secret Empire, you've got four months. I can guarantee you in the last two months the sales are going to go down, because they do on every event, in every story, and everything we do."

>"We have to look at that and say, ‘We need something to prop up those last two months, not just for us but for all of you.’ That's where the sales idea of Generations came from (it was more editorial). Then we're getting into the end of our year. You're going to have Secret Empire, which is going to be down. You're going to have Generations in the second month in September which is going to be down because of the way things go.
The last two months of Secret Empire are July and August but then he says Generation's second month is September so who knows what their plan was.

one of the Secret Empire solicits mention 1000 people go missing ala Secret Wars 1, so I assume Generations spins out of that.

i'm out of the loop. what's Generations supposed to be?

See

Shitty cash in to cover Marvel's ass.

Meh I just don't see how Marvel has the talent to pull this off.

>According to Axel: Hey Fans! We'll bringing back the original heroes for good and for realisies! This ain't some one-shot timetravel or alternate universe story. Totes promise! Make sure you buy preorder a hundred issues!
>Reality: a bunch of one-shots where the legacy characters time travel to the past and meet the heroes in a story that probably won't matter.

>Steve takes out all the heroes and shutters them off to a side dimension

that's not a bad natural set up for a tie in thing

Really? Really?

5¢ deposited

Six years ago it felt like Marvel could do no wrong while DC could not stop shitting their pants. They could put out a book of Spider-man drinking coffee for 23 pages for $4.99 and have it get a 3rd printing.

What happened to this company?

What? 6 years ago Aquaman was outselling every Marvel book

Civil bore II

New 52 didn't happen yet, though, it started August/September.

No, earlier than that. ANAD was not selling well to the point that retailers were starting to get worried (because it meant that not only was DC not selling well at the time, since this was the DCYou period, if Marvel was also not selling, then it'd be disastrous).

the characters people enjoyed reading about were slowly faded out for new characters, and people got tired of the endless events, which was exacerbated by the fact the events revolved around alot of new characters that as i said people didnt really care about (with some notable exceptions)

They shot themselves in the foot then nutpunched themselves in the span of 2-4 years.

Now they're going to have to crawl back out of the hole they've dug for themselves, probably won't happen for a good 2 years at least as they reverse all the stupid shit theyve done..

But the saving grace for them is that the movies/merch are doing as well as they should realistically expect, so its really just the comics division thats completely shat the bed.

Some of Marvel's crew left for image.
Writers (like Slott, Bendis, Hopeless) grew stale.
The status quo was boring for many characters.
Higher ups force stuff like Inhumans on writers.
Going overboard on books.
And overall, it feels like no one knows where to take the Marvel universe. Like they are running out of ideas (Miles Spider-Men 2, Who is Thor? 2. Deadpool kills the Marvel universe 2).

...

Why would you buy that shit in the first place?
>Ahmigod I love comics, Augh!
>one month later: OK, I have taste now, thanks, Sup Forums!

Why Jean?

why falcon and cap
they teamed up all the time it's why cap gave him the mantle in the first place

>the movies/merch are doing as well
With all legacy heroes.
Makes you think, Marvel?

I have the feeling "Fear Itself", "Schism" and "Avengers vs X-Men" was the point were it slowly faded to bad.

>new generation
>Sam Wilson and Steve Rogers

I get the whole frozen in ice thing but they're like the same age

And Falcon fought along with steve several years and last years.
You are right he isnt really a new generation.

Guess no retro costumes for ironman and Thor.

BORN TO JOB~

>it's shit and it's two more months of shit
Yay, it was fucking nothing

>Six years ago
>What happened to this company?
Did you read the thread?

Back in 2011 Jewmutter cut the Editorial in half:

When did Katie Kubert leave cause didn't she edit Mockingbird?

Fuck you. That shit is great!

Almost as good as Luke Cage invading Latvaria over $50 that Doctor DOOM owns him.
