Benicio Del Toro DJ

I like him. I know this makes no sense but he at least pointed out the fact that the Resistance relies on exploitative arms dealer therefore implied that it is also part of the morally gray big picture. I think that is the the more interesting point of Finn and Rose's trip (the less interesting points being their relationship and their inspiring local horse keeper boys)
He also completes many points Luke talks about: the real flaws of the Old Republic and the Jedi.

>Luke talks about how Jedi begets Sith and Light begets Darkness
>DJ talks about how the Resistance makes evil businessmen rich

Thinking about him I actually realized that people of the Galaxy chose First Order over Resistance could be because they want FO to provide laws and order and see the Resistance as terrorists

Is the FO putting fear into most people so they don't choose The Resistance
Or is the Resistance refusing to accept the fact that people don't want to take their side ????

But the Resistance is the Republic and the First Order only took over because they disbanded their army (to stop war)

How the fuck did he know exactly where the evacuation ships were? No seriously, no one fucking knew that the resistance had left the Raddus, the plan was to slip under the radar to that base but this motherfucker just so happens to know exactly where they were when he betrays Finn and Rose. Someone explain this to me.

Are you retarded? Serious question. The FO blew up millions of people and is forcibly reconquering the galaxy. Nobody "chose" them. Their own soldiers are indoctrinated from childhood.

The arms dealers in Monte Carlo chose them

>greedy space arms dealers sell weapons to the bad guys AND the good guys

incisive social commentary, bravo Rian

the whole thing just made me roll my eyes. its like they want star wars to be as boring as real life or something

Yea they were clearly trying to introduce interesting things with him but they didn't take it far enough to really matter.

>gets Finn and Rose to where he promised
>gets caught because of factors beyond his control
Oh wait why would he help The Resistance since he doesn't share their ideal and doesn't even take away the gold medallion ?
>gets rich by selling out two persons he can't help
Wait was this his plan to get rich from the start? Why did he keep his promise then?
>indirectly kills some of the last rebels on nearly 30 ships
So is he a good guy or a bad guy?

would say he is morally ambiguous.

Sup Forums here. i just think he just shit on libertarianism and being neutral in general. he was supposed to be a goodhearted pirate (like Han) turned out to only like money. Kinda stupid character arc if you ask me, and of all the nihilistic post modern bullshit this is the worst of them all

thanks for letting me know i could stop reading after the first two words :)

He should've been a First Order intelligence officer. He even walks out in FO's uniform when he betrays them. Instead of getting paid he should've saluted and marched away.
That way it would've made sense- they didn't randomly stumble onto a guy with the exact skillset they needed, but he was planted there for them instead.

That makes even less sense

Obviously Poe told them even though he didn't know until after Leia knocked him unconscious and put him on the transport

> like Han
Nah, man. Like Lando.

Why? Some two random hobo-looking people land a shuttle on a beach, walz into a upscale casino, start shit and get captured.
If First Order had any kind of military/intelligence presence at the casino, and they would, seeing how their weapon suppliers hang out there, they could put them in a cell with a plant.
When that plant overhears their plan, he offers his services. Then he loses two bumbling morons, contacts his superiors, tells them of their plan. Seeing how two morons are obviously not in charge, superiors decide to let it play out, to catch morons and whoever's in charge red-handed.
Which is exactly what happens.

The way it played out in the film, however, is completely coincidental. Morons are trapped in a cage with the only guy that has the skill to get them out by accident. He decides to save them for reasons. And then they get caught by accident- black ball robot spotting them. And he betrays them. And even gets paid. First Order paid him and gave him a ship.
Empire wouldn't pay the fucker. They would 'alter the deal'.

He was a fun character. Probably one of the only enjoyable things about this movie.

Not to mention the First Order is rather tiny compared to the Empire. Tons of planets in the galaxy don't even know they exist.

There's literally a scene where Poe tells them over voice comms and Del Toro's character overhears.

Am I seriously the only one who couldn't hear what he was saying half the time? He had this weird stutter and mumbled most of his lines.

Why would BDT even bother staying in the cage anyway if he's not a plant?
He can break out anytime he likes.

This movie is dumb.

Yeah it would be a real bummer if the good guys killed millions of “terrorists”. It’s so obvious who the good and bad guys are. Everyone knows this which is why nobody wants to help the “good” guys when they send out a distress message.

Kinda felt like he was nursing a hangover, really. But he should've been a plant.

>“You’re wrong!”
>“Maybe.”

I like that he didn’t end with some condescending line about how pointless it is to fight the First Order or to fight in war. He genuinely accepts that he might be wrong, and he’s just doing what he thinks is best for him.

if Finn and Rose don't know what makes the FO different from the Resistance, they wouldn't be fighting. The hacker isn't giving them any lessons.
It doesn't make that much sense because of the disparaging levels of tech of both forces. One is new and shiny, the other is from the disbanded New Republic. To me it makes more poignant the bravery of the Resistance but Disney decides to draw a parallel when there is none. Disney has chosen to make everything about SW to be disagreeable, which is very different to what the original trilogy tried to do.

He was the most interesting new character. Most interesting overall being Kylo Ren. DJ is a man doing what he can with his skills to survive in the madness of war. He doesn't choose sides, he chooses his hide. I was happy to see that he didn't come back after taking the money to save them on the salt planet or bull shit like that. I hope he's in Episode IX.

I agree. His character will be the only thing I will be interested in seeing in the next movie. Not sure if I'm going to theaters, or just wait for the Blu Ray.

I still hoped it was him in the walker shooting up everyone instead of robofagball.

So did everyone.

>"Today they blow you up, you get them back tomorrow. It's j..j..just business"
>"You're wrong"
>"Maybe"

DJ did nothing wrong. He may not have been 100% likable to those who he was aiding, but his true neutral morality is something nice to see in these awful nu-wars movies.
