Nothing. Disney is doing all the damage on its own. Just wait and see this coming weekend's box office takings.

If it makes less than 1.25 billion, it's a failure. This was supposed to do better than Rogue One and about the same as TFA's performance. Expect Rian "suddenly leaving the franchise" if it doesn't perform to expectations.

The real disaster will be the Han Solo movie

>it won't make money
said no one ever
fucking retard, stop falseflagging and deflecting from the fact that the film is absolute garbage, these fucking manchildren jfc

It's supposed to be at a billion by now

Activate the alt-right deathstar.

>Making over 5x it's budget
>Failure
That's not how it works
>Inb4 muh shareholders
Who gives a shit. The movie still made a bunch of profit, and they'll keep making these garbage movies as long as that keeps happening

disney wins, cinèma lost

>If it makes less than 1.25 billion, it's a failure

Go to bed Rian.

No movie has ever made even close to a billion in 6 days

They're banking on this making close to TFA's performance. Anything less they'll be "reevaluating" what went wrong.

It's Star Wars. You're not going to keep it from making money but I think it's safe to say it won't live up to its potential. They'll "lose" money by ruining audience appetite for spin off films like Rogue One and missing sales targets on future films or having to spend extra money on marketing to shove the shit down audience throats. Star Wars is a raging inferno of value that can only slowly burn out over time as younger audiences don't have positive emotional attachments to it.

/tvpol/ can't keep getting BTFO

>people are actually surprised the Star Wars movie made money
There was not fucking way anyone could stop a Disney property, especially something like Star Wars from making money.

We're fighting a losing battle. All we can do is get our own personal lives in order and barricade ourselves in our houses until the Mouse comes for us to

Normies have more money. This film was made for normies.

>who gives a shit
the shareholders
fucking brainlet nigger

>when it dawns on you that people don't suck Luke Skywalker's as much as you.

Truly tragic for Sup Forums.

WTF Justice League is a sucess now

Normies were always going to lap this shit up just like they do with capeshit.

~950mil is what they have to break to start turning profit

they have bought every advert they possibly can, the massive budget for the actual film, an even larger budget for social media, shills, and presence

they bank off merchandise more than anything, but if people aren't going to the film in droves and liking it, they're far less likely to buy star wars merch as they did before

the film, in all likelihood will be a failure, and all you need is a basic understanding of the business and economics

consider the amazon top selling toys list:
amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Toys-Games-Toy-Figures-Playsets/zgbs/toys-and-games/165993011

this time last year there was at least 9 TFA based toys on that list, this year there are literally 2

it's a flop boys, it won't be obvious by the box-office but trust people are going to be grilled and fired over TLJ

It is IX that will deal with the backlash.

It is the FFVII-FFVIII situation.

VIII was widely considered to be the Worst and VII the best, but VIII "opened" better then VII because it came off VIIs hype and people bought it in good faith.

I like FFVIII for the record.

they also have to recoup the 4+ billion dollars they've paid to Lucas to buy the Star Wars franchise

They already made that back lol.

They've likely made that back already.

As soon as I saw Rey probably wasn't going to get blacked I immediately liked the movies a lot more.

Uh no. Justice League is an unmitigated disaster, and Warner Bros will lose money. Last Jedi will at most be a disappointment and underperform. It will, no matter what make profit for Disney

Sup Forumscucks can't stop getting destroyed.

Between TFA, Rogue One and merch sales they've almost definately made that back already

Shareholders are greddy as fuck, it's a failure for them if next movies dosen't make gain as much than previous one.

I consider Reylo a pretty big victory on our behalf.

>As much

Change that to "MORE", you are seriously underestimating just how greedy suits are.

It's underperforming, which hurts the brand as a whole. Between this and the Han Solo movie in a few months, the Star Wars brand is going to get fucking destroyed. I can't even see how they'll be able to fix it. If TLJ is doing this poorly its only going to go down hill from here. This hurts EP IX more than anything.

so many serious replies to this OP.

the absolute state of Sup Forums

The second movie has made far less than the first in all three trilogies

I feel the first movie of a returning franchise is always going to be the most hyped.

It's not just making less than TFA, it's underperforming a lot, way more than projected. a 50% drop in profits is not within the expected drop off.

Again, this is a about speculation. If the drop is THIS hard for TLJ then its only going to be worse for IX.

>it's underperforming a lot, way more than projected
Source?

The best part is that you memeing fucks are trying to make Jumanji take it over this weekend. It's only supposed to make $7m today, which is half of what Coco made, which ended up with a $49m weekend, and all you fags were calling it a bomb. TLJ would need like an 85% drop to be overtaken by it

Thing is, the bad word of mouth isn't going to affect the people watching it for the first time but:
- It makes the movie legless and it's not going to keep strong numbers through december and january.
- Not everyone liked TFA so there was an expected loss when TLJ opened. However, since TLJ has terrible word of mouth, how many people do you think would actually pre-order tickets for Epîsode IX? Do you think people will flock to theaters to see the trilogy made by the guy who killed Luke Skywalker?

If the reviews said something like, "Luke Skywalker's best performance, he proves he's the greatest Jedi ever lived" people would have been hype hype hype. But that didn't happen.

All they had to do was have a killer training montage like Luke/Yoda and have Luke get on an epic saber/force battle with Snoke where he like beats snake then uses unheard of force power to save everyone but sacrifice himself. That's the ending everyone wanted.

That would have beaten TFA box office. If people saw it and said, "you won't believe how much of a badass Luke was".

Monday drop

Making Star Wars marvel-like appeals to the little children who want toys. Quality of the movie is secondary to that.

didnt they have to pay 2 billion for the franchise in the first place though

>>Making over 5x it's budget
>>Failure
>That's not how it works
user you obviously don't know shit about Blockbusters. Especially huge names like star wars they expect to be a lot more profitable than just 5x the cost.

4 billion. They probably made that back already
>They expect to be more profitable than 5x the cost
Source?

That’s not big for Star Wars. Rogue one did better
