Literally how can you criticize tlj it is perfect

literally how can you criticize tlj it is perfect

Luke in that specific scene is literally told of his parent

Sadly I don't think Kylo Ren could be Rey's father

boba fett did not die

>take the most minor and surface-level complaints about the film
>Attribute them to the entirety of the critical audience
>Clumsily attempt to deconstruct said complaints by going "B-but look before!"
>Act smug

>Palpatine is a Sith Lord who has trained several Sith, has a history.

>Snoke is just a fucking guy.

>Luke's father was a great Jedi knight and with that knowledge Luke wishes to become who his father once was.

>Ray is some guy with force powers lol

>Boba was a Bounty Hunter who had no concept of sides because he only did it for the money, he was omnious and had great weapons and utitlities, technically suceeeded in his mission.

>Chrome person character thing is just a faggot with chrome armour

In the original trailer they use the mystery to imply a rich backstory, and in Lukes case they use it to build towards a huge payoff (he is Darth Vaders son).
In TLJ with Snoke and Rey they use cliffhangers and false tension to imply a huge reveal only to fall flat and do nothing with it.

original trilogy*

He's hinted at in Episode IV ( 1976 book ) and 1977 movie and briefly appears in Episode V

...

OP is true, we already have a more detailled backstory than what we had on Luke. We just need to piece things together.

This Rey. Age 6ish. She's being sold by her parents. Sold means slavery. Yet when we meet her in TFA, she's not a slave anymore. Since slaves don't own things, it's highly unlikely she managed to buy her freedom back. We can then conclude she was sold as a sex slave to a pedo alien monster who lost interest when she became adult.

Here, you have an interesting backstory !

luke needs training to use the force. rey doesn't even need training.

boba fett is just a bounty hunter and gets killed in a freak jetpack accident. phasma is the fucking CAPTAIN OF THE STORMTROOPERS and she gets her ass kicked by a JANITOR.

OT created a good build up for the reveal of the emperor. by ep IV we know the emperor is an evil dictator. by ep V it's clear he's a dark side user and when you finally see him in ROTJ he's everything you had hoped for.

Snoke in ep VII is already Supreme Leader, but Supreme leader of what exactly? then in TLJ it's clear the guy is powerful but also a fucking moron and then he dies like a bitch.

>Palpatine
Buildup since Empire, iconic actor and personality to be feared and had a terrific death
>Snoke
Buildup in TFA, lifeless CG model with a ridiculous gold robe, died in an obvious laughable way
>Luke
became a hero through his own trials and tribulations, overcame his fears and doubts on his own with the help of his friends despite his tragic familial ties. Risks everything to save his friends, losing a lot more in the process yet pushes forward for the greater good.
>Rey
The best at everything ever without having to work for it. Abandons her Jedi training to try and turn a bad boy she has the hots for.
>Boba Fett
Living action figure with iconic look
>Captain Phasma
terribly underused and should have been more prominent

boba fett is still alive in canon

...

The emperor didn't have to be explained because EpIV launched you right in the midst of a conflict, so you kind of accept it but still wonders who was that guy ? Then the prequels happened.

Living Snoke to be a mystery ''just like the emperor'' doesn't work the same because now you know this world and its players, well you thought you knew but somehow a new empire has risen up but you don't know why. You know the past of this world, you know the heroes you loved bring back peace in the galaxy so you HAVE to ask ''who the fuck is this dude ?" It's only natural.

No he isn't. In canon only his armor survived the Sarlacc and is now being worn by somebody else on tatooine

Yea, lets copy another SW movies! Great idea!

All SW movies are the same. Its boring. Even TLJ is still the same. Nothing new happend. And in episode 9 we will get Kylo vs Rey number 2, wow.

>Sold means slavery.
This is a good point I didn't think too hard about. How the fuck did Rey get out of slavery? Was she ever actually a slave? That seems like something that would be hard to forget. Rian's addition to her origin makes no fucking sense.

This is a really good troll. Can I save this for future use?

I would like to point out that characters in the OT didn’t have their backstories presented as some big mystery that will someday be revealed. Luke is presented as a farm boy, the Emperor is presented as the Emperor, and Boba Fett is presented as a normal bounty hunter. Meanwhile, Snoke is presented as a “mysterious dark master”, Rey is presented as a girl of “mysterious origin”, and Phasma just exists to sell a Storm Trooper toy with a different look.

I dare you to find a more logical explanation.

>reusing the same character types we saw over 30 years ago

gee i wonder

they will write that in later senpai dont worry just leave it up to the new director to make shit up on the fly. all they have to do now is kill of chewbacca

Boba Fett actually tracked Han Solo, which is something the Empire couldn't manage to do. Also, he didn't get captured and give the enemy all the information they wanted while offering no resistance whatsoever. Honestly, I always imagined that Phasma was literally pissing her pants in that whole scene the way she gave in immediately like a bitch. It's very fitting that they threw her in the trash because that is where she belongs.

>Buildup since Empire, iconic actor and personality to be feared and had a terrific death
Okay, Palpatine will always be better than that abortion that is Snoke , but his death wasn't terrific at all.
>AAAHHHHAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
That cartoony scream was hilarious.

Palpatine's death is the culmination of Darth Vader's arc, and its execution carries incredible weight.

Boba was was given a badass story agter the movie, and the chromenigger was supposed to be a super soldier but spills out secrets at the first sign of danger

and the emperor didnt have all the hype like that fucker on the right had

what? so, she promptly forgets about getting revenge on her captors and wants to go on adventures and disturb the quiet of solitude of a hermit's life, kicking in his door when he clearly doesn't want to talk to anyone and drink his green milk and go fishing. ridiculous. we know so little about her it's pathetic that's she's even the main character. fucking retarded character. there's so many different angles that Rey could have in the films, but instead we get a character who knows no obstacle too hard for her. stupid writing. we could have an entire free the slaves line of story, redemption, raising of an army... fuck. nope. instead we get a superhuman force user who needs no training.

>Emperor is referenced multiple times in ANH
>Emperor makes an appereance in the middle of TESB
>Emperor is fully fleshed out in the climax of the trilogy as the big bad
vs
>Snoke makes appearances in TFA
>Snoke then dies in TLJ with nothing explained on why he could use the dark side despite not being a Sith for the artifical demand of backstory in the first place

>palpatine is a Sith Lord

Which is not shit you knew in Empire or ROTJ. He was just there and suddenly Vader was bowing to him

>TESB
>"What is thy bidding, my master?"
Fucking retard. The Emperor being a Sith Lord is established implicitly in TESB. We didn't know anything other than he was the leader of the Empire and Vader along with Tarkin's boss in ANH.

Nice strawman bro

When do they even say "Sith Lord" in ESB? You knew as much about Palpatine before prequels and the EU as you know about Snoke right now

Except you don't NEED to know as much to be believable.
There is room for a powerful dark side empereor in ESB, because there's literally no canon before ANH.
There's no room for ancient master Snoke to pop up out of nowhere in TFA because there's already a hundred years of canon before that where he's never mentioned.

why should I care about any of these new characters in an already established universe that inexplicably came out of nowhere

>No mysteries allowed in the sequels, I need all the answers NOW!!
Whoa...

Phasma was also given stories, which accurately portray her as selfish and focused primarly on her own survival.

>I'm a braindead mouseketeer!
Whoa...

Luke actually had to train in order to get good though.

The two movies take place over the time span of like 10 days, Rey literally becomes God-like in 10 days.

Stop defending her.

>someone wasted 2 hours doing that shit image and then proceeded to creeate a failed bait thread that is getting SAGEd!

TLJ is pure kino

>Palpatine is a Sith Lord who has trained several Sith, has a history.
No mention of "Sith lords" in the OT, just the "Dark Side of the Force".
No mention of "Palpatine" or "Sidious" in the OT, just "the Emperor".

>Snoke is just a fucking guy.
Snoke was a Supreme Leader of the First Order, who turned Han's son towards to the Dark Side.

>Ray is some guy with force powers lol
Ray is a Force-sensitive who became involved in events crucial for the fate of the galaxy due to a twist of fate.

>Boba was a Bounty Hunter who had no concept of sides because he only did it for the money, he was omnious and had great weapons and utitlities, technically suceeeded in his mission.
Boba Fett was just a hired gun, and Lucas himself originally thought of him as "just another grunt".

>Chrome person character thing is just a faggot with chrome armour
Phasma is a false idol. She's painted as what a First Order trooper should aspire to be, while having no actual loyalty to the First Order - just a drive to survive, at any cost.

>I'm full of shit, so I'll just call you names!
Whoa...

WHY DO PEOPLE SAY BOBA DIDN'T DO ANYTHING HE TRACKED THE MILLENNIUM FALCON TO CLOUD CITY REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

...

It really pisses me off how people insist that Luke is a Mary Sue as well, purely because he could pilot an X-Wing.

Even though the entire point of that scene is that Luke had to be saved by Han, and needed to believe in Obi-Wan's words about the Force in order to succeed.

Whataboutism in a nutshell.

t. shill

I feel like there are way more reasons that TLJ sucked, than there are reasons that its good.
Because the side defending it lacks a coherent argument, and simply says that the criticisms don't actually count.

The problem is that we are no longer in the '80. Now we have an established universe, and this guy came out of nowhere. Did the emperor knew about him? How did he become the leader of the first order? Where was him during the galactic civil war?

You can just create a new character that is old enough to be alive during the OT, and been this strong with the dark force, an at the same time not address those simple questions.

>mfw Luke is the star wars character I least cared about.
Obi is the way to go

Palpatine was the boss and searved a major purpose in the last movie

Luke's development was gradual over the course of 3 movies and many months of training between them. Where Rey is better than Luke in less then a week.

Bobo wasn't set up as anything big. he did a few things that affected the plot but was treated like a minor villain. The chromedidgzoid woman keeps being hyped up and doesn't do anything.

1st of all, you need snokes origin story because he fucking takes over the galaxy after we the original chracters brought peace to the galaxy already? For the emperor we didn't NEED a backstory.

Luke was relatable, basically the selling point of the movie. Without luke's character we literally would not have star wars.

The difference is that boba fett was a SIDE character. Not in any of the promotional materials, not on the poster or any of it until the fanbase started to fangirl all over ti. Phasma is everywhere, leading people to believe she would have story.

This. It's pointless to even give counter arguments for such a low effort troll.

>Did the emperor know about him?
>Where was he during the galactic civil war?

These.

but you literally have him sitting at the dinner table with his parents, and see him in his home and the entire reason for leaving is his parents die

rey is literal fucking who mary sue that came out of thin air
its shit writing and you know it, stop apologizing with shit bait threads guising under "lol im just trolling pretending to be retarded" when you genuinely believe this stupid shit

>no, i am your brother
fixed

People keep saying this shit, but the only reason you thought there would be a mystery is that you bought into the fan hype. TFA doesn't tease any kind of mystery for either character, they're presented pretty much exactly like their counterparts. Snoke is the somewhat shadowy head of the First Order, who somehow knows stuff about the Force (exactly like the Emperor). Rey is a desert scavenger who gets involved with the resistance, and after initially refusing the call to action (because of her habit of waiting for her parents), she decides to join (again, just like Luke in ANH); her parents were nothing more than a plot device for her refusing the call, and their identity is completely irrelevant.

The only reason the OT stuff seems more acceptable to you is because you weren't alive when it was released and you're used to knowing the backstory. If this was 1980, you'd be complaining about the exact same things.

>Throwing out unprecedented bullshit 7 movies into a well established universe with zero explanation is a "good mystery"
Woah...

/Thread

>Rey
>The best at everything ever without having to work for it. Abandons her Jedi training to try and turn a bad boy she has the hots for.
dont forget that she came from literally nowhere and that her parents are some alcoholic addicted noone

this

>not address those simple questions.
Why do you think they won't be? Lucas had no problem using the EU to fill in the gaps of his storytelling (like the entity of the Clone War). Disney is certainty going to do the same.

This new series take place 35 years after ROTJ ended. That's almost twice the amount of time between the PT and OT. And even for that amount of time, you have things like the Jedi being completely forgotten about that are never explained. Is it really that much a stretch for you to just accept that a bunch of shit has happened in that time?

>semantics
>dodges the point
>dodges the point
>yea fans made boba, let's face it
>no comment, didn't like the character

"shill" is just a slur used against anyone who disagrees with an active circklejerk.

The thing is, all these things will eventually be explained. They just haven't yet.

All the complaints about a lack of Snoke backstory are just childish "are we there yeeeeet?"

Palpatine was established as the emperor of the galaxy from the beginning, Snoke is supposed to be a sith lord who is equally powerful that was around at the same time but somehow nobody knew about him that gained control of the empire.
Luke couldn't do mind-tricks until the third movie, Rey was doing them in the first without even knowing what they are.
George didn't decide Boba Fett was going to be a fan favorite character before the movie was released.

>Emperor is built up through mentions in ANH, a hologram in ESB, and eventually shown in person in RotJ. His presence was impactful
Snoke shown in TFA, given a little backstory about seeing the rise and fall of the Empire, and is killed off without any build up in TLJ, now there's no big bad Sith/ Dark force user for Ep.09
>Luke, a farmboy who gets his shit kicked in on his home world, his aunt and uncle murdered, his world turned upside down and he slowly learns skills through training on the falcon, and going on a rescue mission. He's said that he's had some flight practice by flying his T-16 and is a capable pilot. Only shown use of The Force in ANH is the trench run, which is very basic Force sensitivity.
Rey, a junker in the desert who's never flown a single vehicle other than a gravity-cycle, shown self defense bit so she's an okay combatant, but flies the fucking Millennium Falcon perfectly first try somehow, uses the force perfectly multiple times without and sort of knowledge of it or training, and defeats the Force prodigy Ben Solo in 1v1 combat without any explanation.
>Boba Fett, a ruthless bounty hunter who's tracked down and captured Han Solo with the aid of the Empire. Turns his in to Jabba and eventually falls into the sarlacc pit (to die?)
Honestly, Phasma is close to being like Fett, but we never get to see her actually do anything noteworthy. She has blaster-proof armor, but gets held at gunpoint. She defeated Finn in 1v1 combat in TLJ, but then gets distracted and gets knocked down and falls into a ball of fire (to die?)
Ultimately, between the three characters presented from the new trilogy, she's the only one who plays her role well. It's not as well as it could be, but it's the closest out of the three.

Darth Vader was Luke' Father you dumbass bitch

it's literally impossible for a multi billion dollar company to farm out PR plebs to drown social media and websites.
i understand.

>Luke
>So he's a kid from the farm, no mom and dad went to war

Do these people even watch the movies? Where do they get this shit? Luke's parentage was a central driving force from the first fucking movie. His father's heritage becomes his own through that lightsaber and finding out more about the jedi and the force.

>Captain Phasma's backstory
Nobody's asking for it, she's just not as cool as Boba Fett and never will be. She's a colour swapped stormtrooper with zero personality.

And how the fuck can anyone have missed that the fanbase has been pissed for decades that Boba got a shitty sendoff in RotJ?

Fuck off mouse.

This but unironically.

The last jedi not only ruins all future STAR WARS movies, it also retroactively ruins the past films and makes them all look like idiots.

>A New Hope - "Sir we've worked out the final plan for the assault on the death star and it will be risky and cost many lives but it migh-" "Just Hyperspace-Ram it"

>Empire - "Sir the troops are ready for the ground assault on Hoth, walkers are ready to deploy" "Just Hyperspace-Ram the shield generator from orbit then Hyperspace-ram the rebel base. Boom. All the rebels will be dead before they can evacuate, war is over, and we never had to do a ground assault"

>Jedi - "Sir they built a new death star and it's even bigg-" "Just Hyperspace-Ram it" "But sir it's surrounded by a shield from the Endor moo-" "Just hyperspace ram the endor Moon until you take out the shield generator, Ewoks are collateral damage, then hyperspace ram the new death star"

>Phantom Menace - "Annakin you have to take out that droid controller" "Just hyperspace ram it"

>Rogue One - "We have to take down that shield generator!" "Just hyperspace ra- actually you know what were going to just hyperspace ram the death star anyway so we don't even need these stupid plans. Lets get out of here everybody."

>TFA - My god they built an even BIGGER death sta-" "Just hyperspace ram it"

From now on, in every star wars movie ever made, every single time there is a massive fleet, large base or battlestation everyone watching will be thinking. "Why don't they just hyperspace-ram it". Johnson did this to the entire star wars cinematic universe, forever, for the sake of a ten second shot that "looked cool".

>What is building a new universe vs adding random characters into a 30 year old universe with no explanation

Boba Fett was little more than a background character. Not counting the CGI'd in appearance in A New Hope, Boba's first appearance is as one of the many bounty hunters that Darth Vader asks to track down the Millenium Falcon. Of the six bounty hunters, Boba Fett is just the one that manages to do it by successfully expecting them to fly off with the garbage. He then also requests that the Empire let him have Han Solo so that he can get the bounty from Jabba. The original movies never bigged Boba Fett up to be anything major.

Meanwhile, Captain Phasma was considered to be one of the four main characters of the First Order, alongside Kylo Ren, Supreme Leader Snoke, and General Hux. Being that she was in charge of Finn, it would be expected that she would have a lot more of a connection to him and his story. After The Force Awakens ensures the viewer that she has escaped the garbage disposal, the viewer expects to see a more fleshed out appearance in the next movie. Instead, she just goes down in one fight.

>They just haven't yet
but without those informations the movies doesnt hold up with their legs
i don't want to read comics or watch a tv series to understand why a movie doesnt make any sense

They built a new universe. They set up a world where remnants of the Empire have regrouped, and Leia formed a guerilla army to fight them. That's exactly as much setup as we got for ANH and TPM, and that's the way Star Wars movies are supposed to work. They're adventure serials that we join in media res. We get dumped into a universe that had enough of a setup. You're just mad that no one spoonfed 30 years of history to you and you can't rely on on the EU.

TFA is a poor copy of ANH that retreaded the same ground but in a shallow way.

A fuckin trilogy who darth sidious/palpatine is.

A fuckin trilogy

Boba Fett playing such a small roles in the OT, yet inspires fans to take a real interest in him, so much so they have to clone him for the prequels.
Then there's phasma, try hard clone that shits the bed.

Thanks for proving our point OP, and by "our" I mean the smart minority who prefer the prequels over the shite made in the 80's and the Disney garbage.

>and Leia formed a guerilla army to fight them.

But why? Why the republic didn't had an official army?

>What does the Emperor's look say about his character?
>That he's a spooky old space wizard
>What do we find out about him?
>He IS a spooky old space wizard

>What does Snoke's look say about his character
>That he's old, um...rich, or flamboyant or something, and with some horrible injuries. I wonder what happened to him?
>What do we find out about him?
>He's evil, and...that's it.

> They just haven't yet.

Are you implying that Snoke will be mentioned in episode IX?

>All the complaints about a lack of Snoke backstory are just childish "are we there yeeeeet?"

No, not at all. Is basic information that they should provide so the audience could understand what the fuck happened in these 30 years.

>Boba's first appearance is as one of the many bounty hunters that Darth Vader asks to track down the Millenium Falcon.
His first appearance was in the holiday special. He was the star of a whole segment that involved him befriend Luke and eventually betraying him. People hated the holiday special, but thought that animated segment was good and started fixating on Boba Fett as the only good part of the only Star Wars media people had besides ANH and a couple of books at the time.

Another thing about luke and rey

>Luke dreams of exploring space and joining the rebellion against the empire, this is what drives him to pursue his dreams of becoming like his father, a skilled pilot and a cunning warrior. He gets the chance to fulfill his dream of joining the rebellion after discovering that r2-d2 has the death star plans and needs to get to the rebellion

>Rey got kidnapped or something and remembers nothing from her past, her drive is never revealed and her story is simply a bunch of coincidences that took her to the place she is, apparently she got her memory erased and that's why she knew how to use the force and fight... probably

Two movies in and we still don't know shit about the protagonist

>He's evil, and...that's it.

Why is Snoke evil? Why is the First Order evil? The more you think about the new status quo the less sense it makes.

>introduce a character
>kill him off in 15 minutes of screentime
>character leaves more questions than he answers
Thats just sloppy storytelling right there

..because they are white man and also nazis and white male and nazis are always evil?

They didn't created an universe at all you fucking retard, is just the same shit but with the first order replacing the empire

>no, i am your brother
>fixed

>no, i am your oniichan

Double fixed

Irrelevant. We're thrown into the conflict, what matters is that the different factions exist. The setup can be explained in books for the autists that need everything spoonfed to them. Which has already happened, by the way; the Republic didn't take the First Order seriously, so Leia went behind their backs.

Why is the Emperor evil? Why is the Empire evil? The OT has absolutely nothing to say about this. For that matter, the PT really doesn't, either, because it doesn't do much to explain what the Sith order actually is (or wants), or Palpatine's motivation for being one. We just have the generic motivation that he wants power.

Bobba Fett died like a bitch but he had such a open backstory of "cool looking bounty hunter" that his popularity soared after the film while it was the reverse with Phasma as she was hyped up in books, blogger, toys, trailers, press kits, etc to be some badass that would wreck people but literally gets thrown in the trash but some guy and a wookie.

The Emperor was built up in the trilogy as a powerful person. We only hear about him ANH, we get to see his face in ESB and finally see him face to face with our hero in ROTJ. Snoke was shown to us in TFA as the big bad Rey has to face then they rush his full reveal and death in the same movie making him nothing more than just some side character to be brushed aside.

Luke was a farm boy who longed for adventure, excitement and to find some meaning to his life than being a moisture farmer. He never knew his parents and when he learns about his father being murdered by the right hand man of the Emperor and seeing how the Empire killed his aunt and uncle he chooses to go on the adventure. When Luke finds out Vader actually is his father that constantly tears at his emotions because he now has to kill the man he had set out to become and in the end cannot bring himself to do it because he could feel the good still inside him. Rey is a person who is okay in the situation she's in, never dreams about anything else in her life besides her wanting to know her parents. She ends up going on an adventure and by the end of it and now semi-competent warrior. When she finds out her parents were literal whos that sold her off as a child this doesn't really affect her and she continues on with her life. She gets teary eyes but it's soul crushing like out the second most evil person is your father.

Boba Fett became cool simply through the fandom unlike Phasma who had the marketing team build her up as some bad ass and ends up doing nothing in the movie. Boba Fetts death was a screw up on Lucas' part and he has since lamented on doing it and accepted the fan theory of Boba Fett thermal detonating himself out of the Sarlac pit. Since they sorta do the same thing to Phasma by throwing her into the garbage disposal, they had to have her somehow escape the Starkiller base so she could come back in TLJ only to have another "they must be dead" exit from the movie.

>no, i am your brother
>fixed

>no, i am your oniichan
>double fixed

No, i am your oneechan(male)
Triple fixed

Fucking bullshit. Rey has a memory or dream or something about her parents, where their faces are in darkness, and we hear Obi-Wan say "Rey" during her force vision. Plus this is aseries of films in which we know the force runs strongly in certain families, and the last time we were introduced to someone seemingly this powerful at the start of a trilogy he was an immaculately conceived chosen one.
But hey, no mystery teased.

>Irrelevant.

No, it's not.

>We're thrown into the conflict, what matters is that the different factions exist.

Okay, literally: "turn your brain off, dude".

>The setup can be explained in books for the autists that need everything spoonfed to them

No it can't. Shit need to be explained in the fucking movie. I shouldn't to waste my time nor my money reading novels or comics that have terrible writing just to understand simple shit that could (and should) be explained in the movie.

>. Which has already happened, by the way; the Republic didn't take the First Order seriously, so Leia went behind their backs.

Says who?

>>Boba Fett
>Living action figure with iconic look
>>Captain Phasma
>terribly underused and should have been more prominent
Negro, Boba Fett and Phasma are the exact same memes, useless characters that manchildren latched onto because they looked cool. Darth Maul too, but he gets shit on so much its almost equivalent exchange for popularity

Sure it wouldn't be a big deal that Rey is just some girl and Snoke is just some guy except the fact that the previous movie and all the marketing play up the opposite. Snoke is "an ancient evil" and they go around acting like who he is is some great mystery that will be revealed. Rey is a little less but they set up her parents to be important regardless of if her parents are characters we know already or not. It's just cheap for the sake of acting clever.
