not to layer on with more steven universe, but I always loved rose's speech here.
youtube.com/watch?v=fA3PUEoQQ9o

Please don't, user. I don't want people making fun of my favorite episode and favorite scene.

But man, it was magical watching it for the first time. I remember this episode got released in the middle of the night on itunes, and then someone bought it and uploaded it on /sug/, and then I watched it, and I was just certain that this was my favorite episode of the show. It just captured what the show was about with great music, visuals, and character interaction.

I'm at a point where whenever I see an OP is Steven Universe related I'm more than willing to believe it's bait than sincere.

Either way this thread's gonna be a shit storm. Have fun.

This isn't shitposting, but why are most of the males so effeminate?

Like, they're not girly-looking or anything like anime dudes. They're all just so sensitive and soft-looking.

Are the writers afraid of testosterone and masculinity?

Does this count? It's sort of Sup Forums and Sup Forums related at the same time, but it always gets a chuckle out of me.

youtube.com/watch?v=7brgfiqNP00

>You're all so funny!

>but why are most of the males so effeminate?
Because it's mostly written and drawn by women.

The protagonist men aren't effeminate per say, but they're certainly far more emotional and sensitive than men tend to be in real life. Even Steven (a child) has moments where he breaks character and starts talking like an adult from a PG romance novel

tl;dr: Female fantasy

You know even if I grant you that in this show all the men are effeminate, so what?

I mean, it'd be one thing if the show condemned "toxic masculinity" or something, but it doesn't. At worst it's just doing its own thing and not bothering anyone. I don't normally buy the "if you don't like it don't watch it" defense, but in this case, it really is just a matter of taste.

That said, the reason all the men are effeminate in this show is because with the exception of a few of the gems garnet, amethyst, and jasper, all of the characters are effeminate. It's a show that was always meant to be soft spoken and feelsy. It's okay if that's not your cup of tea, but some people do like that.

tl;dr if you're looking for masculine men, this isn't the show for you, and thats ok.

That's a monologue, pleb.

This dialogue was everything I hoped it would be.

youtube.com/watch?v=0qBlPa-9v_M

Because the majority of men are soft looking, not very muscular, plain, and don't have Captain America haircuts.

Porn is not how real sex is, women aren't all models, and crime shows are highly dramatized. There's a few more reality bubbles for you.

youtube.com/watch?v=4UCdUy7JIAo

is this ironic. i hope it is. if not, please go hang yourself

edgy

women tend to design male characters that are their type
all this indicates is that sensitive doughboys is the kind of guy sucrose considers an ideal partner
its a fetish, not a political statement

>Are the writers afraid of masculinity?

No, they've made multiple female characters very masculine.

my favorite

the worst part about Steven Universe is that you get great episodes every once in awhile you get this perfect episode that was obviously thought out and lovingly made. Hopefully we get a really good season after all this shit like we did with AT.

Then the rest are just townie shit that clearly nobody enjoyed working on.

Man the writing in XRA was so fucking good.

I think this is one of my favorite scenes from Justice League Unlimited.

We really need more antagonists like The Lich and Aku that are just hell bent on destroying all things good. They just need to stop being nerfed/killed off so quickly.

I actually like a straightforward antagonist

I'll tell you what its needed, we need the villain winning, not just in the season finale for the ratings, we need the villian to be on par and sometimes ahead of the heroes throughout the show without looking too cheap, but it has to hit home that the villain is superior to the heroes in every way and knows exactly what its doing

And i fear the only one in recent memory that i can qualify as that is the one in Star Vs, in everyother show the antagonist is a goofy incompetent mess or a plain jobber

Yeah, but SU hasn't been good in a long time. At least with AT, even at its weakest points they'd crank out some stellar episodes. I think SU has lost its spark completely, and I don't think it's coming back.

>I think SU has lost its spark completely
m8 "what's the use of feeling blue" was just a handful of episodes ago

I was underwhelmed by the Zoo arc frankly. Nothing in the show has really impressed me since season one.

Aku somewhat counts. Has the opportunity to kill Jack and he immediately takes it, granted he's not perfect and doesn't fit what you want entirely. Though he's pretty fucking evil.

youtube.com/watch?v=tgCzKdKH0VY&t=108s

I mean, he destroyed every time portal and just left Jack to die of age. That's hardcore, it only failed because of plot magic.

Oh, Thrawn from Rebels could count. But for someone that is meant to mirror someone like Sun Tzu he sure did fuck up one of the basic rules.

>Moral law, Method & Discipline
Makes him seem incompetent in my opinion. An antagonist that's made out to be some tactical genius should have been able to predict Constantine's short temper/unpredictable attitude.

Oh, except Sworn to the Sword, that episode was ace. I liked Mr Greg too.

HEY SHAKE A GREG
IT'S MISTER LEG

>I was underwhelmed by the Zoo arc frankly.
Boo.
>Nothing in the show has really impressed me since season one.
Oh now that's just stupid, everyone who actually watches this show knows season 3 was the best one. Don't know where anyone gets this "season 1 was so good!" crap from.

>Don't know where anyone gets this "season 1 was so good!" crap from.
So much this, the first season was just a protagonist that couldn't do anything besides develop. It was good for character development somewhat but that's it.

I enjoy Steven being able to handle himself now, it makes room for better stories.

>everyone who actually watches this show knows season 3 was the best one.
I mean, that's just inaccurate. A poll here a while back indicated that 1B and 2 were the most popular.

>Don't know where anyone gets this "season 1 was so good!"
Because it kept to a small scale narrative and did it well. It didn't try to be much more than a fun, magical slice-of-life, and the monster of the week format allowed for tight, consistent storytelling. There was also small bits of information being revealed about the characters and the world that kept it interesting all the way up until Jail Break. After that, the show somewhat lost direction. It tries to be this grand space opera while still retaining the comfy charm of the first season and they don't blend together well. What results is an odd mix of sudden bursts of plot, followed by boring as shit townie episodes and both suffer for it.

>I mean, that's just inaccurate. A poll here a while back indicated that 1B and 2 were the most popular.
"Polls" here are just shared by people who agree with each other in the first place.

>Oh now that's just stupid, everyone who actually watches this show knows season 3 was the best one
Fucking waifu fags. Every time.

its also partially because of the drawing style imo. the guys are drawn in particular with lots of soft curve. While this style happens to be pretty popular in CN's line up right now, it also makes them seem more gentle and effeminate

So? Either way it doesn't fit the narrative you're trying to push.

Aku is fine, he loses to jack on virtue of jack being so good that's able to take down armies on his own on a weekly basis, most of the times the reason he loses is not even his fault, he didn't knew the sword didn't work on his hands and caught him off guard, he had him dead to right with the minions of seth and lost due to really bad luck

But besides that, he won everything, he rules everything, another user put it best "Jack has won every battle, but lost the war"

The whole second half of the test is the pinnacle of how emotions and characters depth should've been handled. It's a damn shame the show doesnt get to these heights anymore. No crying, just good dialogue that carries the situation perfectly.

If I lived a short walk from a beach side chip shop I'd be "soft" too.

The reason why season 1 was good are many

1- The characters were still fresh and their themes not overplayed

2- Monster of the week formula kept things interesting if anything

3- The phrase "There's no filler episodes" actually was true becouse we were learning something new AND interesting every episode and if not a character or character synergies was introduced, it gave a sense of progresion to those characters while the others showed us that there was something bigger going on besides goofy fun

4- All the episodes were building up the finale

5- The finale itself was pretty good and implied that things were never going to be the same and that, if anything, the story was only getting starting

...

I actually really liked the Zoo arc, I was expecting a shitty fight or something but instead we got top tier world building and an actual honest to god ADVENTURE with the main cast again. The song showed the difference between Crystal Gems ideology and Homeworlds just by how it was structured. We already knew that Gem society was very rooted in song and dance but the fact that Homeworld songs are stunted and inhuman was just a neat touch about how different the two groups were. Then we got to see how Gem society acts like. We'd only known it through Peridot, who is basically a lost child, and Jasper, who'd probably have a murder boner if the gems were dudes. Instead we actually got to see how gems interact and really shined a light on the whole "prole uprising" shit that the dreadhead motherfucker was going on about. And when we actually got to see the kindergarten humans it was just silly as fuck plus we actually saw Steven's superstrength be plot-important.

Also Pearl got to have a sassy cool moment and I love those. Dangerous rogue pearl has stolen my heart.
