it's good tho

People bitch about Ashi for (You)s, but the real thing nobody seems to get is that Ashi became a main character around the same time the show stopped being the gritty "hope is lost" stuff it marketed itself as and started feeling like a normal continuation of the CN show.

But I didn't want a continuation of the original's tone, I wanted a grimdark edgy revival.

It's like if they revived Courage the Cowardly Dog and didn't make it into a gory slasher flick where everyone gets their skin hacked off bit by bit with a potato peeler as they're tied to a rack and have their limbs torn apart, with a bucket filling up with lemon juice and dumping it onto their open wounds every thirty seconds. Like, why even bother if you aren't going to do that?

It's cute how you masquerade as anti-Ashi fans, but you Jack haters didn't start popping up when Ashi started being a key character, you started popping up after episode 3. Why? Because too many people were making too many positive threads about it and you saw an easy way to get attention.

But not only did Jack effortlessly win a poorly-timed week-long "best cartoon" board tournament, but recent episodes have been getting instant Sup Forums poll ratings of 9s, same as every other episode except for 4 and 5 which got 8s.

You make a very loud point, but you're convincing no one.

Ashi is the the world saved by jack made manifest. She is a human representation of all the peoples saved during the previous seasons. Like the world she was bathed in the darkness and chaos of Aku and like the world she was saved by the actions of Jack. The world, Ashi, the feminine aspects of the divine are now reunited with Jack, the masculine aspects. Now that you have nature reunited with law the evil and chaos that is Aku can finally be defeated.

The final thing Jack will have to learn is that he can not go back to the past, no one can. His whole journey has been about the revival of those great ideas from the past to construct a new world in the future which would be personified by the child of Jack and Ashi.

Well that is my current interpenetration

Oh look, its another overreaction thread fishing for (you)'s.

Its not the 10/10 cartoon of the year it was foolhardily hyped up to be, but what we've seen so far is still solidly "good".

Now stop shitposting and watch some cartoons.

Dude I just want better pacing. Jack getting his sword back should have been something that took an entire episode to explore, and that's JUST of Jack's journey to the sword. I don't mind Ashi as a character, I mind her as a distraction to critical plot elements of the story. The new season isn't over yet so I'm not about to say that Jack is ruined or anything of the sort, I'm just concerned with how the episodes have been structured thus far.

I want R&M shills to go.

Plain and simple, we don't have enough episodes to pace all the events genndy wanted to include before jack is over forever. It probably just cant be done, unless they cut vital events from other episodes.

No this was supposed to end a series, not service your personal expectations and entitled attitude

>"It doesnt match my headcanon therefore its shit!"
Holy shit get over yourself and just be happy were getting anything at all you entitled fucking autist

I agree that the pacing is off but Ashi is anything but a distraction. In the last episode I think it would have been better served with less fighting of mooks and greater focus on the fight between Ashi and her mother. Jack and Ashi both fighting their demons and the juxtaposition between the internal struggle of Jack and her external struggle was great.

God, in various faiths, is often depicted as hermaphroditic. Jack and Ashi each represent half of the whole. She is a central component to the plot. Jack will never make it back to the past but through his union with Ashi he can bring forth a new future free from Aku.

This.

>wanting forced edge
kys

>SUIDF thread no. 245678
But to be fair, I'd side with you the moment Ashi kills Aku, but that's never gonna happen.

Why couldn't Genndy just split it into two seasons? That would solve the pacing problem.

Because executives wouldn't have greenlit two seasons.

This. Fight should've started out with an unseen foe trying to kill Jack, revealed to be Ashi's mother. The Orcs were pointless as fuck but Genndy likes making scenes with one guy killing entire armies so...

kek

Wouldn't that be OP?

Personally I'm more upset about the pacing. It was all good until ep 5.

Well it was Two Towers-esque and Genndy does love movie references

Personally, I'm more upset that it's coming to an end. But at least its not suffering the Spongebob treatment.

glad to see my meme is catching on

>OP is an Idiot
>More at 11

It's so it makes sense when they reveal she's literally Aku's daughter

I don't remember that being applied to this show. i thought people just wanted the series to have a conclusion.

>the network only gives him 10 eps
>WAH WHY ISNT THE PACING BETTER?!
If anything our boy genndy has done a pretty good job given what little he has to work with.

In regards to Ashi, my main issue with her is that Season 5 didn't really need her. Sure, you could say "Well Jack needs someone to help him get back from the brink of despair," and that's true. Jack is at a low point he's never been to before. At the same time, Jack has also met any number of characters over the course of several seasons that could potentially return to help him get his mind back on track. What about the girl who he got the robot slug tusks for? Or Momotaro? Honestly, I think if 30 years had passed rather than 50, it would have been much easier for a character from Jack's past to replace Ashi without much issue and it could have stayed a solo journey just like how it started.

There's also the fact that a lot of focus is going to Ashi and her past. We've seen how she was born, raised, the cruelty she went through due to her mother (which is further expanded upon in additional flashbacks and hallucinations), her change from 'evil' to good, her learning more about the world, her learning more about Jack, etc. And that's a serviceable character story, but it feels very flat.

Most of the people in Ashi's past aren't even characters; they're just props that exist to further the story. If I can use an example from Sup Forums, it reminds me of Danganronpa 3 where all of the Future Foundation characters were just there to get killed off and being pointless just so the writer could tell another story with the surviving casts of the first two (technically three) games without needing to actually have anything bad happen to them. And that same kind of thing is here.

Three of Ashi’s sisters have names listed in the credits of Episode 3, but good luck trying to figure out who is whom. None of them matter; their lives were just as bad as Ashi’s, but no one thinks about them.

Oddly, the coroner found electrical tape wrapped around his scrotum

>lol samurai jek sucks bois i trol u

No one feels any concerns for them. Sure, the High Priestess says failure is death and wouldn’t think about them, but Ashi post-redemption doesn’t have one single good memory with her sisters? She doesn’t have any sadness about their passing at all? And Jack seems to completely have gotten over his guilt at having killed them despite the fact that he was feeling bad about Ashi seemingly being dead in Episode 4. On the topic of the High Priestess, we barely know anything about her aside from “crazy cultist who wants to kill Jack” which, again, is serviceable, but feels very barren for someone who is the main antagonist for what is now a major character. Assuming she died in Episode 7, it makes her final conflict with her daughter feel hollow.

As a few other Anons in this topic have said, though, I haven’t found much of anything charismatic about her character. Jack is a humble and polite person, even with dealing with people who are rude to him. He’s self-sacrificing and willing to endure hardship just to make sure other people don’t suffer, which makes him a likable person. Ashi, meanwhile, is just a naïve girl seeing the world for the first time. Yeah, she likes nature. Yeah, she thinks Aku is a dick. Yeah, she expressed concern for kidnapped children. But beyond that, there’s not really much to her. Jack was a bit of a blank slate that was filled in over the course of multiple seasons where we got to see how he behaved in various different scenarios. Ashi hasn’t had that benefit, so she just feels a bit cookie cutter. That’s not to say that Jack is just the pinnacle of well-written characters and is anything beyond “good guy who fights Aku”, but he has had more moments of strength, weakness, altruism, vulnerability, and things of that nature that help him feel fuller.

tl;dr: I wouldn’t say that I hate Ashi, nor do I think her story is bad. But it does feel flat, mainly because there’s only ten episodes to tell it and she has to compete with Jack and Aku (and to a lesser degree, Scaramouche) for screen time, while also taking away from those characters as well. Aku has barely shown up. A number of things about Jack come up and are subsequently dropped (Remember those hallucinations of his parents that kept showing up in Episode 1?). I think she’s largely unnecessary to a narrative that has already introduced so many characters that Jack has bounced off of. Had the time skip only been 20 - 30 years, we could have had someone else fulfill her role without needing to be burdened by excess backstory.

Shorter tl;dr: Nobody cares, I have autism, and I should probably kill myself.

/thread

I'm not blaming Genndy for the pacing issues with the season, I'm just saying there's a definite issue there.

No, not really.
It would have been better to have no season 5 at all than a mediocre season 5.

Batman is more faggoter

Makes sense.

user, we were fucked the moment Out of Jimmy's Head got the greenlight.

>CARTOON Network
>decide to start airing live action shows

What the fuck were they thinking?

I don't think he wanted more than 10 eps
And the episode count isn't the issue. For example, the montage of Jack's acquaintances seemed redundant after Ashi had already been convinced of Jack's righteousness. If they had delayed her acceptance until after that bit and delivering it right when saving him from seppuku, it would've made the moment feel more cathartic and avoided the issue of having her conversion arc take only half an episode

Why not? Couldn't these retards tell how successful it was going to be?
Though considering it's the people whl run AS I can't say I'm really surprised.

copypasted from another thread

>at first, it was gonna be a movie, most likely no longer than 2 hours. movies based on tv shows normally include some new element, a new threat, a new supporting character.

>then genndy decided/was convinced to make a new season of 10 episodes instead, which helped him expand some of his ideas, flesh out some scenes, etc. we most likely wouldn't have gotten stuff like jack and the wolf, the great pacing on the scene with the tombs if it had been just a movie, again, most likely 2 hours long.

>this story was designed to be jack's FINAL journey. as far as i know, in no moment it was considered to make a new season just like the old ones. can you imagine if it does poorly in the ratings, they doesn't get a second season and we don't get an ending AGAIN? i command genndy for deciding to just finish his story instead of doing the same formulaic stuff all over and over without any kind of character growth, just look at the x files, a quarter of a century to tell a story that it feels like it doesn't want to be finished.

>10 episodes story arc meant to be the final step of jack's journey
vs
>10 episodes season where 9 is filler and maybe a final episode with an anticlimactic battle with aku

>this season is the best option.

Next episode has them running for their lives from a monster that has them terrified. Just you wait. There'll be a scene in which they have to hide in such a tight space that they can feel their sweat mixing and after they've either killed or defeated the monster they'll have "so glad to be alive" sex.

d-delet this

She had been convinced that Aku was evil, but I'm not so sure she really was convinced of Jack's goodness. And if she was, reinforcing her conviction in Jack's heroics was important for her character; it made her more decisive and moved her to truly accept Jack as the kind of person she wanted to be like.

What's the matter user?

>This was supposed to save western cartoons
lol it only got ten 22-minute episodes wtf did you expect it to do

>What about the girl who he got the robot slug tusks for? Or Momotaro?
i understand that, but personally, i think to turn an one-off character into an important one for a (thematically more mature) season wouldn't have been much better. let's say they choose momotaro. people would say "well what makes the baby so special, why couldn't da samurai have helped him?" or "instead of the baby they should have used brobot or princess mira". see what i mean? they all have the same importance as one-off characters, from that point of view, creating a new one from scratch is a much better solution.

I'm not alone. I'm having sex right now! Shit is so cash.

Is the same user making all these "muh disappointment" SJ threads?

I don't know. I feel like there was one earlier today, but my WiFi was out for a few hours and I didn't see it when I got back. I guess it was pruned.

Yeah, I liked that one.

Jack and Ashi getting raped by Aku's tentacles underwater when?

Now, that's porn I can get behind. Jack's the only character I'd be willing to go gay for.

Jack is pure.

When did reddit become the Big Bad Boogeyman of Sup Forums?

Fuck off REDDIT

The final season was never meant to be an edgy revival. It wasn't meant to be the magnum opus of Western animation. Fuck it wasn't even a true revival of the series.

It's a conclusion. For better or for worse. If it doesn't fit your taste, oh well. It's done. If you liked it, savor it because it's done.

When the term SJWs got overused.

Aku's eyes look weird in that image

I really can't tell if you're joking or if you're serious. It's like tumblr's persecution complex has rubbed off on us and we see shit where there is nothing, jumping at shadows.

Only where they blame us, we blame reddit. Does that mean reddit blames tumblr to complete the cycle?

I was joking.

This. One or two people on Twitter said some stupid shit and suddenly this nebulous "SJW" group came out of the woodworks to cause every single misfortune that ever happened to Sup Forums.

Let's be fucking real here, SJWs as a whole do not exist. There are certainly one or two idiots who take PC culture to ludicrous extremes, but these people are such a minute minority with such little power to change anything it's barely worth mentioning them at all. The paranoia Sup Forums has over "SJWs " is actually causing far more problems than its worth, giving rise to Sup Forums and creating this damn near xenophobic effect wherein anyone who says anything even slightly PC is condemned as SJW. I am glad that we are finally getting to a point where the only people who genuinely believe SJWs exist are contained in Sup Forums (and to a lesser extent /r9k/), but the fact that it's STILL a term that gets bandied about with sincerity is frustrating.

At which point did anyone other than nerds on the Internet say that this was supposed to save Western cartons?
Genndy didn't take it upon himself to "save" western animation, he was literally sitting in the toilet when he thought he should take some of his free time and finish Samurai Jack. Simple as that.

Twisted out of proportion by disillusioned fanbois and outisders alike in response to the oversaturation of SJ threads following each episode's release. It's the sort of thing that happened with GF, and SU. Only where GF spawned a fazillion shitty AUs and SU fucked off to /trash/, SJ threads have yet to be contained and quality of threads can range anywhere from 'civil discussion' to 'lol epic memes bro!'

The whole idea of PC and using language as a weapon to change social norms is insidious. Its not just about having people stop saying a word but rather changing the words people use. It has even gone to the extreme where the British Medical Association has mandated that doctors no longer use the term mother because it is offensive instead they should say pregnant people.
dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4167632/Don-t-call-pregnant-patients-mothers.html

An SJW is just a shorthand phrase to refer to a person on the authoritarian left. These people, even if they don't know it, are dangerous marxists. They are pushing not for equality of opportunity, but equality of outcome. In business they want people hired not by the quality of their work but because they are a certain racial or sex. They are very much real.

anyone got that no fay fag image of Jack and the Emoji girl with the tall helmet?

A long time ago, like 2008.
No, way before that, it's just coming back.
