The basic bitch answer is yes
The real answer is no

I don't like Japaneese humour, but that's matter of culture and taste.

Think of it this way
American comedians, even ones you've never heard of, do well all over the globe

It's extremely rare that comedians from other countries do well here, and if they do they're usually just from the UK which isn't that much of a stretch

USA is the home of comedy, other places generally suck at it

>Americans actually believe this

Isn't Adam Sandler and Kevin Hart the zenith of American "comedy"?

Only if 90% of the fanbase are pedophiles.

Americans are paying emphasises on relatability, so I guess that's why its appreciated globally. I prefer British humor, but American standup has its value.

As a man who finds humor in anything, I don't find that any one place does it better than others. They all have there different tastes, and I appreciate all of them.

youtube.com/watch?v=eCM2nEBE0RY

Depends. I hate certain kind of humor of each country.
Japs can make entire show about: Guys looking accidentally at girls panties and get in trouble for that.

Americans love to see people droping their spaghetti. I hate that. There is no joke. It's just painfull to watch and I'm not a sadist.

oh man you beat the shit outta that strawman! you should write essays!

Monty Python is cheating as anyone who doesn't find that funny is a crab person

youtube.com/watch?v=Qc7HmhrgTuQ

Asian humor is situational. American humor is physical.

>anime
>funny
>ever

In the Japanese language almost every word has at least 10 homophones

So it's really easy to make a lot of dumb puns that make no sense what so ever in any other language. The Japanese themselves criticize Thier humor for being shit tier because of this.

It's like writing a poem that rhymes in any Latin language, half the words end in one syllable and the other half end in another, it's not impressive or noteworthy, but even worse Japanese humor doesn't even make sense in any other language most of the time.

I like a lot of Thier absurdist zany shit, and their satire is great and seemingly very rare, but Thier 90% pun humor can eat a dick.

Both wrong

>I never watched a good anime

Well then elaborate.

Puns are my favorite kind of humor
youtube.com/watch?v=e6hqNQJRGDI

You're ignoring that literally most of the humor from those places is the opposite

What's the best looking American cartoon? I ask because I think both cartoons and anime tend to look like ass, because cartoons are too stylized and anime isn't stylized enough. Stuff like Ghibli is peak animation to me, but is there a Western equivalent?

>he's never listened to carlin
>he's never listened to pryor
>he's never listened to....fuck it, that's enough

Don't talk about comedy ever again

American comedy is slapstick shit like Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry. Anime comedy is "Haha this character is dressed like a girl! Heehee that character's crush like another man and he's making a silly face out of sadness!"

Granted Bugs did do the crossdressing gag a lot but it wasn't anywhere near the majority of the humor.

Song of the Sea. It isn't really funny though and we're talking about funny.

This is like saying Justin Bieber and Rihanna are the zenith of American music. You exposed yourself as a fucking ignorant. Stop talking.

How do you even think this in a world where Mel Brooks exists?

Maybe if you're a baby boomer, he's awesome.

Sorry Americunt, nobody cares about your shitty little hipster comedian/musicians. What I said is true because they're the most famous and biggest representation of your country's """"humor""""

>good anime

>anime isn't stylized enough

?

You're both conflating and generalizing.

American comedy =/= animated theatrical shorts from the 40's, and anime uses a shit ton of (usually lazy) physical humor. Evrn stickig with modern American animation, most humor is situational rather than slapstick with a heavy reliance on dialogue.

They aren't even relevant here as comedians and Sandler's films have been bombing, try harder.

I hope one day a fan of animation is smart enough to analyise the diffrence between eastern and western humor like youtube.com/watch?v=Zyv4jGWEzxY

>implying theres anything better than nichijou

youtube.com/watch?v=z30Y572EmCk

this isn't funny, though

...

if you're on Sup Forums and un-ironically believe jap shit is better than west shit lemme tell you that you're the basic bitch here

Pic unrelated

(You)

Funnily enough, there's a ton of that in . It doesn't detract much from the scene, but it could still do without that shit.

True words, worst Loud isn't even good with her pun game so what's the point of her existence?

I prefer more subdued humor.
youtube.com/watch?v=pJehB5mQSrY

so essentially japanese humor isn't even about the joke itself, rather the reaction

Anime girls = Waifus

Cartoon girls = underage & not Waifus.

Yes, which goes back to . Instead of a detached laugh track to let you know when something funny happens, anime uses another character sperging out with an exasperated yet simply-drawn facial expression.

Maybe in kids cartoons the west has an edge

on PG+ and up Japan is better.

No, they try to incorporate western humour but they have to explain it so the Japanase audience understands why is it funny, most Japanese humour are either absurdities or physical, they also have this kind of "puns" with words that rhyme but is not solely for humour.

Why is this board so obsessed with west vs east? Sup Forums practically never brings up Sup Forums subjects, so why do you bring up Sup Forums so much?

Cartoon humour can be clever and it's mostly based on references/citations while anime is mostly filled with "humorous" cliches therefore cartoons can have fun moments while doing comedy but at the same time being repetitive and animes instead are basically generic comedic humour with low values therefore lighthearted.

Both can be good or shit depending on the subject and how they deal with it.

>laugh track
Now you're conflating older Hannah-Barbera cartoons with western animation, fuck you're bad at this.

You a tourist or what? 99% of the time these threads are started by Sup Forumsutist trying to shit in western animation, tho this was started by a Loudfag so it should be attributed to /trash/.

>You a tourist or what?
Sorta. I'm a /x/phile but I'm trying to broaden my interests.

>these threads are started by Sup Forumsutist trying to shit in western animation
So why don't you just ignore the thread. Or if you're feeling spiteful, do the same over at Sup Forums?

Because we aren't that spiteful (relatively speaking) and most of Sup Forums likes anime too. It's pretty much as simple as that.

>Japan
>comedy
pick one

Comedy is largely subjective, especially across cultures.

So yes and no, depending on the audience

>So do American cartoons actually do comedy better than jap toons?
Obviosuly. Japanese cartoons may have better stories and action but western catoon does comedy better

Either that, or Japanese comedy doesn't translate well.

Sup Forums mods do their job, Sup Forums mods don't

I watched this with an open mind but it didn't even make me smirk

Due to their culture a lot of Japanese comedy is either stupid shit for kids or stuff based on misunderstandings that requires a really detailed understanding of the language or a gazillion TL notes to even hope to get.

Name 5 cartoons from this decade as funny as Mob Psycho or Osomatsu San

>Something shocking happens
>"EHHHHHHHH?!"

>Japanese puns

>Guy walks in on naked girl or girl walks in on naked guy
>Girl yells and/or hits him

Amazing World Of Gumball, Teen Titans, Clarence, Batman, Looney Toons and can't remember other ones

With out a doubt. But we've got nothing on the British.

monty python is grandpa humor

MANDOM

animes with this kind of artwork are rare, not the norm.

the norm is generic shit like Sword art online

Makes you wonder what Japanese stand up comedy is like

>Teen Titans
>Loony Tunes
>This decade

It isn't the "norm" though. It's popular but not the norm

comedy seems like the only thing jap animation can't do. The only one I ever found somewhat funny was Super Milk Chan (not the English dubs) and that's only because I can tolerate that kind of utter absurdity, and every now and then I understood the cultural references. I haven't seen many other animus that can pull off that cold, surreal type of mood and still resist the urge to have characters overreact retardedly to everything that happens like

Japanese stand-up comedy is pretty much all "manzai" from what I know, where you have a straight man and comic foil.

It basically comes down to the foil making dumb remarks and the straight man chastising him or giving him a dope slap.

>Clarence
>funny

You should have at least said Gravity Falls

I don't get the appeal of this little Beatle boy anime or the Shiba-Inu gijinka back there everyone wants to get spanked by

>It's extremely rare that comedians from other countries do well here, and if they do they're usually just from the UK which isn't that much of a stretch

This isn't because American humor is better. It's because 90% of Americans can barely speak one language, let alone an additional one. Whereas British imperialism and American commercialism have pretty much ensured that most people elsewhere learn at least a bit of English.

What's the Sup Forums equivalent of Inferno Cop?

It really depends.

A lot of Japanese humor is ridiculously arcane to a westerner, but there are a few shows that have absolutely devastated my sides. Often they're not actually comedy shows, just occasional bits of comedy in other series, but a recent comedy that got me over and over again was Konosuba. Nichijou almost killed me too.

I wanna say something like Squidbillies or Aqua Teen

Ax Cop?

Bob Burgers, Rick and Morty, Gumball, Jeff and some Aliens, The Royals

its a matter of opinion obviously but there are also problems of what you compare

For example do you compare the most popular comedies, the most critically acclaimed comedies or do you try to compare all of the comedies

So for example I feel Japanese comedies are better but I am also aware that I filter Japanese media pretty well and I generally only end up watching the A+ stuff, meanwhile even though I don't really watch them I am painfully aware of all the awful "comedy" shows we have in the states, pretty much name anything on Fox.

However if you reverse this perspective and were exposed to all the awful japanese media, but your view of US media was limited to the gems of comedy we have, South Park, Futurama, the good seasons of American Dad, you would end up with a reversed conclusion

So I think the real answer to your question is, everyone sucks at comedy, the majority of the comedy medium no matter where it is from sucks, you can only hope to find the real gems of comedic genius.

No anime is more funny than sponge. Nap human is shit.

This. The vast majority of anime use a similar or generic art style and Serbs will deny this fact amazingly. I remember someone making a thread about it and the amount of drone denial from Sup Forums was insane.

Japan has shit comedy. To them the Simpsons is a dark comedy.

No, to high in production. It's more like Aqua Teen

Mob psycho is a good anime but it is hardly funny unless you have autism.

I mean, yeah if you don't watch much anime and just look at a picture from a seasonal chart it would look like that.

YTPs are the epitome of comedy and they aren't made by japs.

Nah I think this is pretty funny

youtube.com/watch?v=sQWtV7SqkeM

I watch just as much anime as I do cartoons. 95% of anime share very similar animation tropes. The fact that something like panty and stocking is the exception and not the normal proves this. Even that is nothing compared to the creativity of a cartoons like EENEs animation. Japan like getting fed the same shit over and over.

>You're basic for believing objective truth

>Even that is nothing compared to the creativity of a cartoons like EENEs animation

Kaiba?

12 oz. Mouse

>I watch just as much cartoons as I do anime, 95% of cartoons share very similar animation tropes.
I'm sure you've seen this image in whatever previous thread you are talking about, but I'm going to post it anyways.

One nationality is funnier than americucks for motion drawings. Not taking into funny original animu.

But that image proves the point, the anime that look different are the exception and even then they are rarely that different even then.

Circle some that look the same

You're either blind or stupid. Even the Big 3 anime look and move vastly different. Are you part of the same people that believe in the Calarts meme too?

Great job being a hypocritical weeaboo. It's not ok for call arts shot to look the same but Japan gets away with it just fine.

So are you comparing anime to cal arts? If so that is a good comparison

Great job at being a fucking illiterate bastard with no reading comprehension. I'm accusing YOU for believing something like that. I don't think that any of the current airing cartoons look the same you dunce.

How closed minded are you?

let's not turn this into a 400+ post thread telling Famicom to fuck off.
