JSA Storytime: X-Force

Good evening owls,

heeey

so what's good today because I haven't read anything because I did other shit?

Deathstroke was good as usual

Being Joey is suffering

I'm behind on that and need to sit down and pay attention

Cap/Zemo shipping intensifies

...

Nothing super special but the Dickbats and Damian arc finished in Nightwing. It was fun.

There wasn't all that much Cap/Zemo shipping in Secret Empire beyond them being confirmed Hydra bros who stick up for each other. That issue did feel significantly faster and better paced than either of the Cap comics Spencer was writing previously though. Do Marvel editorial only pay attention to events?

Also I paid like $10 for ESO so who wants to play with me

is it just me or is Seeley's Nightwing just like a speedrun of Dick's more important themes and things that have already happened

Deathstroke and Flintstones were top tier as usual. Captain Atom and Nova both feel like they're on a wrap up, which they are, but

Captain Hydra whining continues unabated.

Marvel even had to make a press release telling people it's temporary.

What the hell is happening?

>ESO
What platform?

lol of course he's reading Eco

Say, is being Nate still suffering?

Shit I forgot about FLintstones

The story still sucks though lol can't help that

Hello, Storyteller.

>Etta Candy
>Edie
Today is a good day for waifus.

Youngblood was disappointingly bleh.

PC

I can't believe how fucking quiet all this new shit I plugged in is, and I haven't even tried to push to see what it does graphics-wise yet

I'm all about Expeditions: Vikings at the moment.

It kinda is but that's a bit of a theme with Rebirth. To be fair Dick didn't have like any of his history pre-Rebirth.

So was Black Bolt good or not, because he's one of those characters I want to care about but can't

Is anybody really surprised by this

>Cooke
FUCKING F

>To be fair
This is my least favorite Sup Forumsism.

It's really overused here.

Are you running msi:afterburner? It's a program that manages fan speeds for your gpu and gives you a lot of monitoring information

Flintstones was solidly A Jojo Reference.

Novas was pretty good, but perpetuates the mangling of Thanos Imperitive but whatever, Badass Hermit Rich.

That is all the New I think I mananged to read.

Wait, scratch that- Dugguardians! Shows promise! Decent twist ending!

Still need to read Iron Fist.

we'll definitely get to Doop/Wolverine: PINK MINK

I think I have it but haven't played around with it yet, but I have an MSI graphics card in this bad girl

Black Bolt was pretty good and shows fuck ton of promise. It has everything almost perfect.

At least Raptor and Spyral/Tiger are returning soon so maybe they'll be able to make the title stop being so mediocre

It sucks how his last big work was a meh Vertigo title that his art carried.

It got really good for like two issues with Dick's girlfriend and his interactions with Damian, then it became generic.

Pretty good, worth it for Ward's art if his style is your thing.

>A Jojo Reference
Oh yeah, shit

OP (and anyone who hasn't read Flintstones yet) go look at this page

Ahmed's first book was mediocre after being massively massively hyped, but he's actually a long-time comics nerd so that's better than most of the novelists

I thought it had some typical novelist-into-comics problems but I'm still willing to go for it right now. The pacing on the next issue will make/break it for me.

...

Also doesn't help that there's no manservice. Fujo posting and homolust/shipping was one of the best part about Grayson.

I feel like this pretty low end laptop prolly can't handle it.

deret you're imag fag

oh my sweet jesus

absolutely

...

Never read his novel if that's what you're talking about. I only read good sci-fi and classic kino literature.
I don't know, pacing was one of the things I liked very much. Gives a sense of atmosphere to the book.

>Captain Hydra whining continues unabated.

Any story that kills Rick "The Marvel Universe in Human Form" Jones deserves it!

Haha, who am I kidding, no one genuinely mad at Secret Empire even knows who Rick GODDAMN Jones is.

>Also I paid like $10 for ESO so who wants to play with me
You'd have to pay ME $10 to play that garbage

Nice false flag intern, I know who Rick is, and I still think Secret Empire is retarded.

I didn't expect a Blue Man Group joke

Christian Ward's art can do a hell of a lot of lifting and the text is not letting it do that. I felt the first issue was overwritten to an extent but fine in terms of the atmosphere it set up - but the next issue can't take the same amount of room for so little to happen (for me).

The Spike seems like he's trying to justify Genosha by existing.

I saw someone seriously saying "The only people who like SE are white entitled dudebros"

I know some Twitter folks well versed on their lore being pissed off at Secret Empire. A lot of it has to do with Spencer being a twat though. Holy shit they hate Spencer more than any another schmuck writers right now.

I enjoyed Grayson a lot but Dick as Nightwing bores the fuck out of me

Still waiting to reveal everything since his leaving DC has been a ruse and to crash Marvel to pieces in a Hugo Boss outfit.

They're right.

>The only people who like SE are white entitled dudebros
hey SE fans and JSA fans have something in common!

...

Maybe the next #1 will be good. It won't.

>overwritten
This is like one of the worst criticism that exists in modern comics.

Can confirm. Spencer lost all credibility during his stint on Secret Avengers v.1.
The first three or four issues of Iron Man 2.0 were pretty cool, but holy shit did that series shit itself hard and fast.

Why? I'm open to your argument but you gotta make it. Mine's is: you can do away with 90% of the text in that Black Bolt issue and it's just as (if not more) effective.

Yeah

Fernandez and To's art is good and stuff but let's get real, the fanservice was like half the reason why anybody liked Grayson

I'm going to be earnest against the trolling and note I've seen a lot of woke black dudes on Twitter *loving* the book.

I got absolutely no problem with shitting on it, it's shitting on it in a stupid, inaccurate, and indirect way that drives me crazy.

>Mine's is: you can do away with 90% of the text in that Black Bolt issue and it's just as (if not more) effective.
You can apply that to a lot of comics that are considered classic. And that is why it doesn't work.

do I count as a dudebro now?

;___;

yeah, but you really know it when you see it

Panel 5 makes me think that neither Allred nor Cooke's super clean artstyles do a service to how wrecked a drug addict like Edie ought to look.

It's honestly just so generic, almost as much as Dixon's run.

And I hardly ever say this, but parts of it are so compressed like the first arc where it probably could've used another issue to unfold more naturally instead of being told straight up in narration

Though I do get why he's doing it that way, cause people got confused and angry with Grayson, but still

when everyone is an entitled white dudebro no one is

I feel like the actual SE #1 tipped way more into criticism and a lot of people will not pay attention to that because they've dialed into what to hate.

hoot hoot

the attempted moral outrage about Grayson was really fascinating too, almost a dry run for the Cap stuff

>You can apply that to a lot of comics that are considered classic.
If this is your argument, give some examples.

Let's play Gear of Wars OP, you can even call little children faggots and I'll chip in once in a while.

yeah generic is a good word

it feels like it's ALMOST something better but it's not really risking anything

also I know a couple people who absolutely adore the new love interest but man talk about generic

Is that a shooter? I'm no fucking good at shooters

Speaking of Dixon, how was Bane: Conquest? I glanced at the thread and saw a bunch of "fuck King, Dixon rules!" but haven't read it myself

desu the Grayson stuff was even worse because it's not even nazi (inb4 not nazi) stuff, just male sexualization which is basically nothing

And honestly that wasn't even the problem they had with it, their problem was he wasn't with Barbara and the batfamily. The him being shirtless was just a scapegoat lol

I've had enough of your fratboy bullshit, OP!

Can you elaborate why it didn't work here?
Also pick up earlier Miller/Moore/Gaiman works.

>the attempted moral outrage about Grayson was really fascinating too, almost a dry run for the Cap stuff
oh yeah, I'd nearly forgotten about that

it was mostly people who were looking for reasons to be mad about Dick not being Nightwing anymore right? I remember a post that was pissed he was sleeping around and of course the issue where he throws a gun at somebody (because don't make my favorite face moral quandaries! ;_;)

It was more transparent in what it was actually about

As an old bitch of fandom, I find the antis and their "15-year olds in fic is child porn" bewildering

But shooters are the ultimate dudebro games.

...

>As an old bitch of fandom, I find the antis and their "15-year olds in fic is child porn" bewildering
it's baffling

that and the "a 20 year old fucking a 17 year old is actual pedophilia"

I feel like writers don't even like Barbara/Dick shipping that much but they have to pretend to keep shipperfags happy.

uhoh

>>Say, is being Nate still suffering?
Of course it is.

My favorite was where they were afraid Devin Grayson would come back and write the title and someone claimed she and Seeley wrote something together before. lol

>that and the "a 20 year old fucking a 17 year old is actual pedophilia"
Alright user, let's not go there.

it's like, we worked long and hard to make a place (admittedly horribly coded) where you can post whatever you want without an admin or some disgruntled fan getting it taken down, and you kids want to ruin that?

I said mad, not disdainful.

I care about as much about Secret Empire as Civil War 2, because fuck "never the same" right in the nostrils.

It didn't work here because the text is telling you what the page is already telling you in almost every instance, but worse. You cannot possibly compare this Black Bolt #1 issue to Moore who knows extremely well, like knows-the-most-in-Western-comics-maybe, what's important to show in art vs. writing. Sandman does trip out on its words alongside visuals sometimes, sure. And Sin City can do that too but mostly in a "this is a psychoactive city made entirely of hardboiled noir" way that adds to the text.

The majority of the text in the first half of the Black Bolt issue is unnecessary. It's only when people actually start talking that the text on the page feels like it's mostly adding instead of taking away. You're telling me to read stuff that in all likelihood I have already read; doesn't change my opinion of BB #1.

How on earth did that become such a triggering topic on Sup Forums of all places?

It doesn't even make sense as just Sup Forums being Sup Forums because I thought they were libertarians

I don't come to their house and bitch about their shitty fluffy coffeeshop AUs, leave me and my hardcore slavery AU h/c alone

Wait, what. Is the US AoC over 17?

That you aren't talking about their coffeeshop AUs is the problem though.

Depends on the state. The standard is 18.

It's by state, and these people are also fucking insane

I know, right? If the HTP were just more typically comics-compliant...

California is 18, and since Hollywood is here people think that's the national AoC as well, even though it's 16 in many states.

There's some intense discussion in operatic theory about the relationship of words and music and the "doing the same thing" idea versus the contrast. It gets entertaining when you get someone like Pierre Boulez who adores Berg's Lulu beyond measure, but cannot cope with the fact that the actions in the opera are exactly timed to the music

Shit, how are those people reacting to Hydra Cap? This feels like it should be a Helen of Troy moment for them.

I haven't looked, I don't even know where they're based these days

I'm hoping for some Zemo doujin out of all of this

...

>I know, right? If the HTP were just more typically comics-compliant...
if only

I wonder if this SE business is generating any good fic

>It didn't work here because the text is telling you what the page is already telling you in almost every instance, but worse.
If you pick up a comic by a good artist who is a capable storyteller, you will find this to be the case. Shit you can look at TDKR and see this. Comics are never as simple as "remove words here because art is already conveying everything." There's a rhythmic pattern to Words, combined with good storytelling by the artist is what makes a harmonious comic book. No part in that perfect synergy is a thing a bit more or less. This is why overwritten for the most part is a meme criticism.

if you find it for the love of god link it
