the fact that the stories are so unrelated is a problem, but splitting up the gang is not a bad thing in and of itself. it's a problem with execution not concept

Star Wars is now a teenage movie like Maze Runner, Twillight etc... You know, stuff where teenagers do teenagers stuff except with a "far-fetched" elements like vampire, explosive collars, rocket launchers and death stars. Caracters have low density and hold simplistic views so anyone can identify to them, etc... I think the other word for it is "shit".

That could have been fun. If Luke and Rey went off on an adventure themselves, Rey could have been wanting to return to help her friends and Luke could have been pushing them on to something which was ultimately (or so he thought) more important.
