It "dropped the shark" well before that scene.

It wasn't the cliched as fuck redemption sequence that set you off, but this?

You got shit taste bro

>tfw still grinning like a retard that Jashi is happening

Genndy you based old fart.

>ITT: Moments when a show got DROPPED
*FTFY

It was cheesy and goofy, but I liked it, especially after I had a chance to sit and digest it a bit. I thought the awkwardness was a bit overplayed even if Jack has no experience with women, but I get that maybe from a storytelling perspective it's to show that he's just that pure of heart and innocent. I don't know. I ain't no writer.

That being said, with how much the first 4 seasons are lauded (which could also be cheesy and goofy), I'm curious--if there was an ep like this back in the original run, would you personally look back on it fondly, as a goofy but touching episode, or would you have hated it?

It didn't jump the shark, people on Sup Forums wanted season 5 to be the second coming of Christ, but instead they only got a really good show, and somehow that's not good enough

>really good
More like hackneyed, but honestly I don't know what anyone was expecting. Writing was never the strong point of the show so having it take center stage was a terrible idea.

Post other shows that dropped the shark.

...

>but I get that maybe from a storytelling perspective it's to show that he's just that pure of heart and innocent. I don't know. I ain't no writer.
It was a joke, not showing innocence or anything. Genndy was laughing at "lol, Jack's still a virgin" and hooked him up. It bothers me because of how unnatural it seems to the character, but that was the point anyways.

I don't really care anymore. What's done is done, and he could have done better, but chose not to do so.

>You will never drop your shark into Ashi's shark tank

Was this an oddparents spinoff?

I think they dropped the shark with poof though.

>You will never borrow from Ashi's shark tank

The only good thing we can get now it's the lewds.

It jumped the shark even earlier than that, with last episode resolving most of Jack and Ashi's issues in the span of a single shitty episode.

Hell, maybe even earlier in episode 6, when the ghost-horseman was practically wasted for nothing.

>I'm curious--if there was an ep like this back in the original run, would you personally look back on it fondly, as a goofy but touching episode, or would you have hated it?
I wouldn't have minded if they did this shipping thing if the season was 24 episodes. The focus on Ashi took the attention from other things i wanted to see. To be fair, having an ending with a romance is cliche shit, and i would have hated that Jack ended that way in any case, but i would have digested it better with proper time to develop it. All of us knew the season was doomed when they leaked the thing that Ashi would stay.

I liked it.
It was kinda shit, but I liked it ok.

is right anyway the show jumped the shark way earlier than this.

>I'm curious--if there was an ep like this back in the original run, would you personally look back on it fondly, as a goofy but touching episode, or would you have hated it?
Part of me is inclined to say that due to nostalgia goggles a lot of anons would have it as their OTP.
Sup Forums's pretty polarized on pretty much everything these days.

*dropped

>dropped the shark

>Dropped the shark
Couldn't even Google the correct term, huh.

I liked it. Also, I like to reserve judgement on something until it's done.
That's fair. I mentioned in a different thread that, while I tend to like relationships being developed more too, I admittedly found it a bit refreshing that they got together in the same ep that established their attraction to each other, but that might be a side effect of being on Sup Forums and having to endure their ship-baiting, waifu threads filled with will-they-or-won't-they speculation.

I was kind of surprised how much I liked it when I thought about it.

>All of us knew the season was doomed when they leaked the thing that Ashi would stay.

I don't think that's fair. Having a B story isn't indicative of a bad direction. Plenty of fantastic movies have B stories and they work out just fine. It's just that the execution has been very poor.

The [as] promos around the show made the daughters of Aku, Green Samurai, and Jack losing his sword to be this huge and interesting deal with the first three episodes setting the bar really high for people's expectations.
But things just flopped around after episode 4 and the resolution to all these plot points has been terrible.

It's also worth noting that the first 3 episodes were more subtle in their presentation and allegory, whereas later on Genndy seems to go out of his way to explain everything in a very simplistic and straightforward manner.

TL;DR: the premises aren't bad they're just executed poorly

So in the universe OP is from where the expression is "drop the shark," what happened in the episode of Happy Days that inspired the saying?

Fonzie was carrying a Shark and he dropped it. It was shocking to all.

Instead of water-skiing, there was a beach wrestling match that gets out of hand and Fonzie ends up suplexing a shark to save everyone

>do a 360
lol you mean 180 XD

A shark was dropped on Fonzie, killing him

Fonzie was wearing shark trunks. He dropped them and flashed his junk to everyone.

Also ITT: Times when shows dropped the bass.

I teared up at this part.

idk about you guys but those asses are my fave. the egg/apple shaped ones

I cringed.

And i'm cringing now.

Wow, I'm fucking glad I only skimmed that episode.

That part was so stupid
>Hey do you guys know where the samurai is? I'm his friend and I think he might be in danger!
>You're his friend? Well then, listen to our song and dance with us!
>Oh, well Jack might be in danger but I guess I can dance for a little while!
>*Dance ends*
>Okay, thank you for letting me dance with you! :)
Pure nonsense...

What did you tear up?

Your ass.

...

>co-worker raving about samurai jack season 5
>Tried to watch the original run before 5 started at my behest, couldn't make it, says it's all "pretty much the same"
>Balked when jack got his original look/dispositon back in the previous episode.
>Says episode 8 was his favorite of the season.
>Overheard him encouraging another co-worker to watch it today, outright told them to skip the original run.

I have enjoyed every episode of the revival series, but this infuriated me.

Wait did Jack shave his crazy beard and long hair. That kind of pisses me off

He meditated and got clean shaven and his hair tidied

Their issues were this Episode 5: Prove to me Aku is evil. Episode 6: I won't say he's my friend until the last person asks me if he is. Episode 7: I've got to protect him while he retrieves the sword. Episode 8: Let's fuck. Episode 9: NOT SO FAST SAMURAI!

He could have just tied it in a pony tail and braided the beard. I miss that look

It's not like he really had a choice in the matter.

Has anyone on YouTube uploaded all the episodes?

I know right? You have to see where it started before you see it end.

>Overheard him encouraging another co-worker to watch it today, outright told them to skip the original run.
He did good though. He spared them a huge disappointment, and they will be a lot more satisfied when they watch the original run on their own.

Genndy did.

>I cringed.
Go to helvede, normie scum.

They'll get taken down in no time.

I find no fault with any of this and think SJ's 05 is the best thing that happened to Sup Forums since forever.

There are three phases to a show getting worse to the point of zombification.
1. Dipping the Pole (may only be noticeable after number 2)
2. Jumping the Shark (a point where you know it's only gonna get worse)
3. Going off the Rails (a point where you know it's never going to be better, even in your wildest dreams)

4.Dropping the Shark (The point in which everyone loses all hope and outright drop it.)

This is the fanbase of season 5 samurai jack

...

this shit right here my man was cringey as fuck/

i was actually embarassed watching this and no one was even around

As I posted in >This is what we're up against. And you call us names like "Sup Forumsntrarians" instead of helping us.

>helping us

You think you're a fucking group now. Holy shit!

In his universe it's "Hit em with the Jon"

The expression is jumped the shark.

And on Sup Forums, it's now dropped the shark.

The disappointment being the original series.

I still don't understand how people didn't see this coming from the second she joined him. It's like they've literally never seen or read any story ever

Samurai Jack was always filled with stupid, cheesy but fun moments like this.

Honestly, I have no idea why Sup Forums is being so harsh on the new season, it feels like the old ones, but with a storyline through the all.

*dropped the shark

Fuck it was obvious waaay before she joined him. She was the only important sister, so she was obviously turning good, and then the moment with the deer solidified her as a romantic interest

It was far too obvious. One of the many things Sup Forums doesn't recognize as having ruined the first 3 eps.

It was all downhill from there.

I wonder how many of those against JackxAshi non-ironically support Korrasami.

Samuraiiiii DROPPED

When you're wearing rose tinted glasses, all the red flags just look like flags.

You see it's sweet because they're doing the exact same "dance" moves the Samurai impressed them with when he was trying to blend in.

I dunno. The first three episodes were great, and imho, the rest have been good too

You standards are shit then.

Alternate universe where everyone was a shark. Shark Fonzie gets dropped.

>dropped the shark.
What does that even mean? That rather than going over everyone's heads, everyone's heads got lopped off and dropped to the floor?

Is that what happened?

OP's from another universe

If there's a spinoff series would they be milking the dead horse?

cringe kino

samurai dropped the shark

Star vs. and Steven universe haven't

Because both are shit, obviously.

May be

>Pure nonsense
You just described the original episode that scene was alluding to.

>dropped the shark.

So much this wise user. Consider this is the renaissance of bringing things back from the dead, I have to Samurai Jack done a great job to make a continuation. Also, it is like that this episode has a 180 degree turn on visual or art style.
