OH NO NO NO

*breathes in*

why did gary buseys team feel the need to physically be the ones to freeze the predator, couldnt they just have rigged up a trap with some kind of automatic cryo gun?

The pimp is my idol.

Not nearly as intimidating as Predator 1. 12-year-old me kept telling my friends "Don't see it. They turn Predator into a wimp!"

I don't really know what the deal with the movie is. It's a weird combination of an 80s buddy cop action comedy, pseudo-noir mystery, slashers and who knows what else.

Its aight. The setting/theme is better than the shit predators movie. Some goofy plot points in it tho that ultimately are ineffectual

so was the first predator
>buddy cop
>military
>comedy
>sci fi
>slasher

it just puts it all together so much better than 2 does

Because they needed to hunt it.

Decent follow up to great original

Back in the 90's I considered this film mediocre/bad. If it came out now I'd probably consider it a fucking masterpiece compared to all the garbage passing as "action movies" these days.

I always thought it was good to decent though not holding a candle to the original. Though I could be biased because I was elated when Gary Busey got chopped in half

>reminder that if you dont think this is good then you should head on over to r3ddit
-very fun/comfy movie/rewatchable
-gary busey
-sweaty black man
-bill paxton
-daniel from fear the walking dead
-cool pred design
-expands the lore
-gang warfare
-cool new weapons
-sluts getting btfo while being whores
-good score
-changes the location to concrete jungle - smart move

were jamaicans and regge that popular in the late 80s early 90s?

FOCKIN VOODOO MAGIC MON!

Superior to the original, but it's necessary to see the first one to understand the mythology. Predator 2 works better because it's like a city odyssey movie and a really well done one desu. the level of violence is also pretty similar to the first one which is something important in this franchise. Predator may have more memorable scenes and characters, including the last fight which is fantastic, but it also has some not so well put together jungle sections.

>Superior to the original

Sup Forums has gone too far in some places.

It was good up until the ending when they hand Danny Glover some gay pistol and teleport away. I need closure in my action movies.

The opening of camera moving over some palm trees and then showing that it's not a jungle but a big city is great

The patrician choice will always be 2.

A good early 90's sleazy action movie. Hasn't aged as well as the original, but is about as great.

what you wanted sweaty black man to blow the ship up and then get interviewed by reporters

AAAAAAAAAH

Jamaican director.

I really enjoyed it.

>does something new, changes the setting from jungle to city
>Danny Glover and Gary Busey
>Predator wastes a shitton of scumbag gangbangers and Feds; met gore quota
>cool new Predator weapons like the staff, bladed disc, and razor-wire net
>memorable lines like "Want some candy?", "Shit happens," and "So you're cutting off my dick and shoving it up my ass!"

I also love how they expand the lore without a bunch of tedious exposition about the "Predator High Council" or what they call their different weapons or whatever. Just a quick glance at their trophy room and an old Flintlock tells you everything you need to know about Predators.

I love it. Basically one of the movies from my childhood I used to watch a million times. It's a quality sequel, a bit different from the original which was pretty much perfect.

That piece of the score by Silvestri when Glover enters the ship and sees the alien skulls trophy wall still sends chills down my spine.

They wanted to do the concrete jungle setting, and they hired the right director to do it. Stephen Hopkins is fucking good at recreating murky urban environments, he perfected the formula with his next movie Judgment Night.

DE UDA SIDE

Don't know, I have watched Predator 2 much more times than Predator, it's just easier to watch.

It's an ok movie. I liked the predator's new weapons and the trophy room was sweet. Not as good as the original though. Nothing can beat an alien killing machine vs 80's Arnold
>In tree with torch
>Alien creature that killed everyone else is hunting you
>Call it to you
>Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

fantatic movie. lost the manly man squad from the first one, but replaced it with two complete psychos in glover and motorcycle brain injury busey.
only part i hated was the train slaughter. even though the pred was sending a message, it was completely unlike how predators kill.

Schlock kino.

First hour is rather worthless, the final chase and confrontation are absolutely great. Predators can cry.

I really like it but acknowledge that it's absolute schlock, like most of Hopkins' work, which I also dig.

Terrible compared to the first one, but incredible compared to any other predator or alien movie that was made since.
I consider it canon.

shit. the first time i watched it i thought it was a parody

It's good fun.

But I still have hope for X-Rated version...

Predator, Predators and Alien vs Predator are the best Predator.

i liked it. voodoo gangsters are cool

>Predators and Alien vs Predator
I hope you're trolling.

Also the ps2 game was fun as fuck to play

It was okay.

Underrated classic. I actually prefer it to the first film.

It's not as good as Predator, but it's a good action
movie. I love that urban jungle/warzone vibe and the offbeat bits of filmmaking, like the Jamaican drug gang. The predator goes out in a pretty dumb way, though. Seems like it could have easily avoided it. But that's a fairly minor issue
Modern movies just don't seem to take as many risks as they used to, for some reason. Probably financial. It's a tough market and if you don't get the capeshit audience on board you'll lose money.
If it came out today it would easily be the best action movie of the year that I've heard of.

Guys should I watch predator 1? I know I've been watching it so many times but it was when I was a kid and constantly skipped parts and I still know the plots and all that should I just turn my brain off?

I explain that, and the predator's stupidity, with the head-canon that it's a young dumb predator on one of its first hunts. The ending seems to back up this interpretation, since the predators that show up after that one dies seem to have a vaguely disgusted vibe, as if they were thinking "fucking dumbass". But maybe that's just me reading into it.

>I also love how they expand the lore without a bunch of tedious exposition about the "Predator High Council" or what they call their different weapons or whatever. Just a quick glance at their trophy room and an old Flintlock tells you everything you need to know about Predators.
Great point. Yep, that's what happens when a film is made by people who understand the medium.

Why didn't Sup Forums like Predators?

Not really. It was better than AvP shit but compared to P1-2 it was pretty boring, felt rushed, I didn't care about a single character and I can barely remember any. I think it was some ridiculous video game type of team of "badass specialists from different fields". The premise and the whole plot were pretty stupid. Only watched it twice.

Ja mon, I and I be liking dat

I like this explanation.

youtube.com/watch?v=A1GfUoB0kog

was meant for this fucking flu

The Alien Covenant of Predator movies. Anyone read the Dark Horse graphic novel Predator:Concrete Jungle. Loosely based on the sequel.

>Predator 2
>Black lead
>Strong independent female character
>Latino character
>Assholish white guy (Busey)
>all pretty good actors and characters
>a bit over the top but fun ethnic gang members
>nothing of this feels forced down your throat in sake of muh diversity
>what happened to movies

I was watching Strange Days the other day and wondering how that isn't lauded as blockbuster of the century by SJWs. The strong black female saves the white protagonist AND defeats the corrupt racist police.

I guess it doesn't count if it came out before they were born.

I watched it again a few months ago and honestly it's a decent flick but it was always going to be compared negatively to the first movie which is an all time classic action kino.

I watched it last summer but I can barely remember black female character. Or the plot. All I remember is long haired drunk Ralph Fiennes and horny Juliette Lewis cameos. And minidiscs.

apparently new predator movie addresses the predator 2 and it has Gary Busey son playing the son of the character Gary Busey was playing.

It was directed by a woman too iirc.

Yep. Proof James Cameron is better at being a progressive feminist than women. Is there anything he can't do?

The healing scene was pure kino.

youtube.com/watch?v=-2r8YLDUMnw

Dude, it was Detroit combined with LA. Anyone would have trouble staying alive there.

>>Predator 2
>>Black lead
>>Strong independent female character
>>Latino character
>>Assholish white guy (Busey)
huh, I actually never noticed that. I fucking love Pred 2 and hate forced diversity, but it felt right here. Good catch

>the level of violence is also pretty similar to the first one
Id say it's MORE violent and gory than the original. A lot more skinned people hanging from roof beams, and the very excellent scene were he collects his trophy from the voodoo guy. The sound when he rips the spine out still sticks with me.
The original is a perfect movie, no question, but I fucking love predator two. It also completes the Bill-Paxton-Gets-Killed-By-Best-Modern-Movie-Monsters trifecta.
I also love the expanded gadgetry of the predator (razor disk is love), the field medkit, the inside of his ship, and all the other predators that show up at the end, its fucking great.

They were way batter at it back then. They actually gave their shoehorned-in diversity characters decent parts that made sense in the story.

Nowadays, they are there just to be there and they figure out a part for them later, if at all. so deal with it. Makes it way more blatant.

>I can barely remember black female character
I wanted to fuck the shit out of Angela Basset in that movie - and I don't even like black chicks. Sistah was fine as fuck and her clavicle game is on point.
Also don't forget that Strange Day was directed by James Cameron's wife-at-the-time Katherine Bigelow (a few years after point break).
It's a great movie though, and I watched the shit out of it so many times as a kid

too bad about all the action scenes being edited to shit to avoid an x rating

he doesn't kill unarmed people. everyone on that train had just demonstrated they were armed, plus it was cool

Inarguable best scene

youtube.com/watch?v=fVG1jh2EtVo

if you cant enjoy the movie predator i dont know how to help you

fucking great scene

It's pretty good. It's even better if you imagine Danny Glover's character is Sgt. Murtaugh a few years after Riggs finally kills himself.

Because of this.

Fucking great and near equal with the original.
Only lesser part of it is MCA & Paxton's early scenes are kinda cringy but once Ruben Blades character dies they start taking things more seriously.

Your a idiot, that is closure, the Predator who was on safari was killed, trip over they are going home and they gave Danny the pistol as a trophy for his victory but not a piece of their tech.

>predator ship is filled with a ton of predators

So what the fuck were they doing that entire time? Just chilling while ONE guy gets to go out and have fun?

There was a pretty decent Predator 3 novel where Dutch and Harrigan team up. Dutch got really fucked up after the first movie events, radiation burns and shock, escaped from the hospital and later retired from his spec ops division. FBI guys from Busey's team drag him and Harrigan (as experts on the subject) to the arctic station where the young Predator goes through initiation hunt and fucks people up on some science outpost. They don't wanna go at first. Predator makes holes in the walls of the station with his disc to lower the temperature inside so he can see them. It was pretty good, or maybe I was a kid when I read that and it all just sounded awesome.

I agree with you except the strong female. She was cringy grabbing Paxton's balls for no reason and her acting was blah.

Nah you got it mixed up.
That was Predator Cold War.
They brought in Dutch's brother (who faced the preds in the concrete jungle comic) not dutch himself.
Not sure who your thinking Harrigan was but he wasn't in the novel,
Book was good tho.

Yep, they are just the crew to man the ship or judge that 1 hunter's accomplishments.

Maria fucking Conchita Alonso. Not only a female but a latino female. I don't know how I can still remember the actress name. Pretty sure she was in something else too.

There probably were quite a few books, novels and comics. I remember the one with Dutch, Harrigan and Busey's goon in Antarctica.

Why would predator initiate himself on some arctic outpost, did it have some SCIENCE military stuff?

As far as I remember this was like the last attempt on Earth (two previous hunts failed, too costly, if this one fails we'll stop coming here, hoomans are dangerous) and the elders wanted additional difficulty in form of a very hostile climat.

>So what the fuck were they doing that entire time?
Drinking, obviously. I don't know where you come from, but where I'm from "hunting" is just code word for day drinking with firearms in the woods.

Bad weather or no were they hoping marines would come over or Predator was basically shooting up civilians in middle of nowhere.

>Dutch's brother (who faced the preds in the concrete jungle comic)
Ayy I thought I was the only one who read that shit.

>predator 1 jungle
>predator 2 city
why would yautja go hunt in highly populated area and risk being killed? thrill of the hunt? the sensation from danger?

How many movies has that building been in? I swear I saw it in an episode of icarly once

Heat wave

It was written by Alan Dean Foster or some shit. For all I know it could be an unlicensed fanfic. But it was a pretty thick hard cover book and well written.

>predator 1 jungle
>predator 2 concrete jungle
It's lite pottery. They go where it's hot.

I can't really remember. I think Pred just landed not exactly knowing what to expect and the guys on the station had arms.

have you ever seen bigfoot?

>The scorpio is ready!
great action flick, user

actually laughed out loud
unexpected mention

I actually kinda liked Predators. It wasn't great but I liked the different characters throughout it. It wasn't a great movie, but it was good. I didn't like how there was some dynamic with predator lore or whatever, I just liked human cast. The one guy bitching about only getting a shiv was hilarious

>There probably were quite a few books, novels and comics. I remember the one with Dutch, Harrigan and Busey's goon in Antarctica.
Positive that never happened.
Here is a list of all the Pred Novels/Comics.
avpgalaxy.net/literature/predator-novels/

Plot for Cold War
> Beautiful, bold Lt. Ligachev is two months into her first command position at a pumping station in the Siberian oil fields when her men are slaughtered by an invisible foe. She escapes, barely. New York City detective Schaefer has run into Predators before on the mean streets of the United States, and survived. Now Ligachev and Schaefer are sent to winter-ravaged Siberia by their bickering governments to eliminate the Predators – if they can just keep the Americans and Russians from killing each other first.

They crashed.

More movies like Predator 2? Gritty urban action/thrillers?

They go anywhere with heat and violence and while the film was made in 90, it was set in 97 with crime overwhelmingly out of control.
