Fuck I forgot Rogue One. It goes below Attack of the Clones and above The Force Awakens.

Clones > Menace

I don't care how you rank the rest.

Clones is better in its best parts but Menace is more consistent and the better overall movie.

Nice

Empire Strikes Back
Rogue One (Personal taste, something about the third act clicked with me)
A New Hope
Revenge of The Sith
The Force Awakens
Return of the Jedi
The Last Jedi
The Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones

STAR WARS > ROGUE 1 > JAR WARS > NU-WARS

ESB > ANH > ROTJ > Dogshit > The Rest

Rogue One had the most impressive visual effects by far. The texture of the ships was top tier. You really felt like you could reach out and touch the Star Destroyers or the Death Star.

Why was AOTC so underrated? The Battle of Geonosis was absolute kino.

Yoda and Sheev should never have had lightsabers, it goes against their characters, robs them of what made them seem so powerful (yoda thinks war is for idiots and sheev thinks lightsabers are toys for fools) in that they can kick our hero's asses without needing a lazer sword which we were meant to believe was some kind of ultimate weapon, and watching an old green midget and a wrinkly old man flip around like ninja turtles is stupid as fuck.

Lucas however threw all that out because he thought it might sell some more toys and look cool. And now we have a generation of morons raised on the prequels that think that Luke being a bitter old man that failed to train jedi is the worst fucking thing ever, but all these ruinous moments in the prequels are just fine and dandy because Papa Lucas made them instead of the mouse committee.

Fuck you idiots.

Special mention for the clone wars series which did the prequel material justice, but can't save the movies which are just fucking terrible on their own. Rebels sucks ass.

This. I've been looking for another man of taste for some time, and now I know what it looks like.

Say whatever about it, but I'm going to point out why giving the two lightsabers DOES make sense.

Yoda using a lightsaber actually can support Yoda's comment in Empire about underestimating those by size. Yoda at his age pulling something like he did against Dooku and Sheev is impressive given his stature. Given the presence of Dooku, a lightsaber duelist, using a lightsaber on his own accord was necessary for defending himself. Going in weaponless leaves his guard open, and Yoda knew not to underestimate Dooku, and given the Clone Wars, he had to have a lightsaber for the use of defense.

Sheev always thought that his power is greater than a Jedi's lightsaber. He thought of the lightsaber as inferior to the Force, so a lot of times, he used the Force to get shit done. Mastering the lightsaber was still a necessity for him, but a lot of times he used a lightsaber to mock Force users. Along with that some like Yoda and perhaps Mace Windu can get through Palpatine's Force powers. And given if he was cornered with Mace Windu and three Jedi masters, how far can the Force get you without a lightsaber?

For me, its:
RoTJ
Empire
Revenge
New hope
Last Jedi

Phantom menace

I don't care about Star Wars nearly enough to force myself to sit through the prequels.

Those are fine rationalizations within the context of what we are given in the prequels. My angst is that they never should have been in the prequels to begin with. In the fantasy archetypes that Lucas pulled from Sheev is the dark wizard, and yoda is the wise old sage, someone that imparts knowledge, but does not engage in petty violence. It would have been far more interesting to have the "knights" jedi / sith duel with their swords, but have sheev retain his wizard-like archetype and be just so amazingly powerful that he just dispatches the jedi sent after him with a wave of his hand. A prolonged light saber duel in his cramped office felt lazy. He was never established to be a swordsman, he's a cunning politician and obviously a dark force user, but an in-shape, well trained light saber user? It doesn't jive.

Yoda is even worse. He should have either been the wise headmaster of the jedi order that was the strong voice of restraint and reason against violence, always advocating for peaceful solutions and never using a weapon, give him the force spotlight by doing something that no one had ever seen, such as a mass jedi mind-trick or something to show that he is sheev's opposite in the force or w/e. Or, make it so that he was always kind of a weird old hermit of the jedi, an ancient master that left the order to study the force on his own and did not want to be party to the corruption he saw within the order and thus wasn't involved with the purge. A tiny baby lightsaber and all those flips and spins was again funnier than it was impressive and just made for a terrible fucking fit with the character.

What we got just reinforced the idea that the force is a limited set of powers, force-push, force-jump, force-run, levitate things, mind-trick, and if you're a sith you get access to force lightning. And that all jedi and all sith use light sabers regardless of it makes sense for them to or not. It's really reductive and limiting and feels video-gamey

Wtf are you talking about? Dude, if even one person at least somewhat emotes in the sequels then they are a thousand times better then anything the prequels did. Is it that you like the taste of Lucas shit? Do you like it when he pulls your mouth open and lets loose on your whore mouth? I bet you do. That is why when the Mouse shit in your mouth you can't take the little small shits that are TLJ and TFA. No no no, you want the big stuff like the Phantom Menace and AOTC because you are a hungry boy, aren't you? Big boy wants his big shits from big poppa Lucas. Motherfucker.

I completely understand those points, given the presences of these characters in the OT.

I often find it not really that much of a bother to me given that their displays with these weapons show us what even the wisest and most powerful Force users could do in their time, and it helps in evoking what George intended with the Prequels with having it being like a Shakespearean Play, with action packed sword fights, drama, tragedies, and powerful music. The Prequels and OT have a lot of different themes in that sort of regard, with the Prequels being Shakespearean Sci-Fi while the OT is the Heroes Journey in a Sci-Fi based fantasy.

>ROTS at number 1.

A main character dies off screen for no reason because Lucas wrote himself into a corner. Characters constantly announce their feelings to the audience in cringy dialog. Despite having 3 movies to develop, protagonist goes full on evil for retarded reasons with almost no real character development. Shitty fan service like Yoda being friends with Chewbacca. Lucas has to write in memory wipes just have things make any sense.

>the best Star Wars movie

If you honestly believe this it means that Star Wars as a whole must be very enjoyable to you or you are a complete retarded who gets impressed by meaningless CGI flips.

The original trilogy is filled with old gay effects and are very silly.

Here is ranking Non-Disney Star Wars > Disney Star Wars

If you are this retarded, how do you even function a daily basis?

Because a good chunk of it is absolute dogshit. Pretty much the onlu good parts involve obi-wan

>All those ships dropping off Clone Troopers with their Jedi Captains
>First legit battle

Also, the Jedi saving Obi and Anakin was amazing.

Not to mention Detective Kenobi which was fucking BASED.

The movie takes 2 hours and 22 minutes and paces it very well unlike that other NOT Star Wars movie that was a bit longer. Also the scenery and settings were absolutely beautiful. All the actors, even Hayden, gave a very good performance and it did what a second movie in a trilogy should by bridging TPM to RotS very well.

for me it is the worst star wars movie but doesnt make it a bad movie. painful to watch at times but has some excellent moments.
Obi Wan and Anakin chasing the assassin was great, the jedi fighting in the arena, i even found the kamino stuff pretty cool.

...

How? There’s not a single scene or line of dialogue in Empire that makes me groan just thinking about it. I can think of 10 in Sith off the top of my head.
Empire isn’t just a great Star Wars movie, it’s a great movie in general. It’s why people’s expectations for Star Wars are so high. Jedi rode on its momentum, but if you look at it on its own it has massive problems.
Sup Forums seems to have this contarian mentality, where if something is widely regarded as being the best they take a stance in opposition to it. But in this case anyone saying Empire is not the best Star Wars movie is just revealing themselves to be a retard.

good lists

what the fuck did the phantom menace do that put it so high
reeeeeeeeeeee

the destroyer droid scene, qui gon trying to force the door with his lightsaber was fun. the last fight being the best fight in the franchise. darth maul, and the soundtrack. don't ever pretend this wasn't the hypest shit ever made. nothing after phantom menace has a scene this perfect.

youtube.com/watch?v=qzVBqBosf5w

fair enough
thought it was bait desu

Flashy meaningless garbage for ADHD kids.

phantom menace gets way too much hate for no reason. it's the 2 after it that are the most offensive. people always make fun of jar jar binks and anakin, for good reason in episode 1. 2 and 3 have all the flippy bullshit, midichlorians up the wazoo, anakin crying every 5 seconds, yoda and palpatine going full anime, every single jedi being so fucking worthless that they can't detect palpatine is pure evil. dooku with his banana lightsaber, grievous with his 19 lightsabers, obi wan being a complete bafoon and tripping over his lightsaber, "I LOVED YOU!" "I HATE YOOOU" "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO". go watch those pieces of trash again, i promise you politics and darth maul are such a massive increase in quality, you'll wonder where the "episode 1 ruined star wars" meme ever came from.

>Flashy meaningless garbage for ADHD kids.
really? the movie franchise with laser swords and infinite action figures targeted at kids is a kids thing? i'm shocked.

Not the same poster, but if you want me to give a couple of "nitpicks" about Empire, I honestly thought C3PO was god damn unbearable in this movie compared to the other movies in the saga he was in. I also thought Empire had the weakest ending scene in the entire saga, but now The Last Jedi is contending for that place.

Every single word you said was wrong

Why does Yoda have a smaller saber? It's not like the blade weighs anything and he'd had trouble handling it. And he sorely needs the extra range

This, but unironically.

Return of the Jedi
Empire Strikes Back
A New Hope
The Last Jedi
Revenge of the Sith

The Phantom Menace
Rogue One
The Force Awakens

I was the biggest SW nerds when I was 10, I knew all light sabers choreographies by hearth which I flawlessly reproduced with my friend at school during break time.

Now, listen very very carefully, this is the ONLY way to rank the movies :

Ep3: Revenge of the Sith
Ep5: The Empire Strikes Back
Ep2: Attack of the Clones
Ep6: Return of the Jedi
Ep1: The Phantom Menace
Ep7: (haven't finished it)
Ep8: (havent watched it)

ESB
NH
ROTJ
ROTS
RO
AOTC
TFM
TFA
TLJ

1) Empire Strikes Back (No notable flaws to mention, we all know why it's here at the top)
2) Return of the Jedi (I understand why they re-used the deathstar, but it is kinda lazy, and the ewoks should have been made more fearsome if they were supposed to be such a threat to the empire forces, that's probably the only part that's keeping it from eclipsing ESB)
3) Rogue One (gets a lot of flak, and the first half is lacking, but the ending really saves it for me)
4) The Phantom Menace (yes really, besides jar jar, midichlorians (some throwaway lines, and they're completely ignored onwards) and some anakin moments this movie isn't actually all that bad)
5) A New Hope (I'm sorry it's just become too dated, in both quality of acting and special effects)
6) Revenge of the Sith (Order 66's done well, anakin's turn comes out of the left field somewhat, and it's what the entire movie is about so...)
7) The Last Jedi (subversion for the sake of subversion is neither smart nor good)
8) The Force Awakens (they didn't even try)
9) Attack of the Clones (a confusing mess, geonosis battle and stadium fight (before the rest of the jedi arrive) are pretty cool though)

Some notes: At times I had trouble ranking some (TFA - AotC, TPM - ANH, RotJ - RO) Over the others, And I'll often flip back and forth between them depending on the mood I'm in, so I guess a different ranking could be:
ESB

>People unironically ranking RotS ahead of any of the OT

Honestly, why do you guys rate TFA higher than TLJ? Is it the length or cringe scenes that push it over?

Jesus Christ! somebody actually got it right, this is the first time someone has actually had the same order as me.

A New Hope
Empire
Revenge of the Sith
Return of the Jedi
The Force Awakens
The Phantom Menace
Rogue One
The Last Jedi

I grew up on both the prequels and the OT, and it really is noticeable, even from the jump from A new Hope to Empire strikes back, acting shoots up like crazy, lines are delivered better, characters emote better.
