What are some things you noticed about the film that others haven't mentioned?
The big one for me is the implication that the Earth is about to die.
The film talks about "the blackout" which could only be caused by a massive EMP, and combined with the ominous bad weather we can likely say it was a solar flare.
The off-world colonies are being built for when the Earth finally dies, likely by the sun going cold. We symbolism of this all throughout the film like the dead tree being propped up.
it was p shit desu Watanabe purely relies on if the script is good
Justin Rodriguez
blackout was caused by replicants you retard
Ian Hall
>The film talks about "the blackout" which could only be caused by a massive EMP, and combined with the ominous bad weather we can likely say it was a solar flare. The shorts that came out before the movie literally addressed that you fag. It was some kind of replicant rebellion group that fucked up the power grid and caused the blackout.
Leo James
that stupid Chinese cartoon isn't cannon in my eyes.
Jeremiah Kelly
you actually see the black out in one of the shorts, it's just from replicants bombing something
Nolan Stewart
Wallace literally just wants to colonize the Galaxy with replicants he isn't Evil at all.
Aiden Myers
A bit off topic but can we discuss why women absolutely HATE this movie?
I think it's because women can truly not fathom how it is to *truly* be alone. Given the protected nature of their gender and the fact that we as a culture coddle them, they cannot understand Deckard's plight, Joe's plight, or the plight of the replicants. It just doesn't hit home in any way. And Joi PISSES them off. I think, truth be told, because it's a program that would honestly render most of them completely obsolete. Men cannot be replaced by artifice as what women crave most are a provider and a protector. But even though men crave love, companionship, looks, and intellect; a sentient program could conceivably offer all that much better.
Just a theory. I know about a dozen guys that have seen this and and about 5 women. All women didn't get it and just see it as boring and they didn't "get" the characters or feel any empathy for them.
Blake Brown
shut the fuck up you fucking retard.
Jordan Taylor
Wallace is *very evil* if you consider the replicants as sentient beings.
But I wonder if he would really strike people as that evil if he wasn't sort of killing them just to kill them like in Deus Ex Machina. I suspect without the couple of direct replicant murders he was responsible for he wouldn't seem very evil.
Zachary Young
leave him be you female swine
Brayden Baker
He kills replicants that he doesn't see as fit like that one that turned out to be some short haired tumblr user. He's Based and future generations will see him as god like even though he built his new civilisation on the back of slaves.
John Ramirez
>one that turned out to be some short haired tumblr user.
Wyatt Butler
1) they don't 2) your typical slut likes romcoms because they are about relationships and making babies and this movie is not a romcom
Nicholas Howard
The second thing I noticed is how Joi is entirely a tool of manipulation and surveillance by Wallace. She uses K's loneliness against him and always pokes and prods him, and inspires him to look where Wallace wants him to look.
When Love destroys her it is because her purpose has been served and they already have all of her data. That's why she is shown to be present when K is looking into the gene records.. to let us know how Love/Wallace immediately know to look for a boy.
K's final decision is motivated by seeing a Joi advertisement and realizing everyone in his life is trying to manipulate him. His decision to lead Deckard to the girl is not wise, but he does it to try and break free from the manipulation once and for all. The question is though.. is that what Wallace wanted all along?
Which brings the next point...
Landon Ward
Ever heard of solar flares? We are overdue for one. And it will destroy our internet, mobile networks, banking/economy, and anything else stored digitally.
Ryan Campbell
It's literally about relationships and making babies.
Kevin Murphy
>global warming
Jace Carter
>The wall keeping animals from humen no one talks about it
Samuel Scott
The enigma that is Wallace. Why are his eyes not just blind, but scarred around the edges? Why is this so much like Tyrell? And exactly how much can he see, assuming each of these chips is connected to different viewing systems?
We only ever see Wallace use the view-bots to see in person, but it is likely his gaze is nearly endless.. At one point we even see he has control over advanced spy/weapon satellites.
I honestly wonder if he is even present on Earth, or if the body we see is his proxy and he is controlling it from off-world?
Is Wallace actually an AI?
Noah Jackson
nobody talks about the seawall, why do you need a seawall?
>Inb4 Mexicans
Brody Jones
my gf liked the movie
Asher Ward
Almost no "Real" Humans left on shitty old earth. Maybe one in the whole movie "Madame"
Henry Campbell
Eyes in Blade Runner are clues to people's inner workings. Wallace is blind, but considers himself so far beyond human morality that he believes himself to be an omniscient god, seeing from a thousand eyes scattered around the planet.
David Cooper
Global Warming is gonna flood most coastal cites soon enough, either move or a wall.
Aaron Wilson
I don't mean cold as in the sun dies. I mean the next ice-age or extinction level event that will kill most biological life on Earth.
Notice how the first film ends with rain, while this one ends with snow? In LA?
Blake Lee
Go back to /r9k/ or r/incels or whichever fucking shithole you crawled out of, adults are talking here. >N-n-no argumentz Fuck off, your stale pasta has been proved to be shit time and time again, and you know it
Hunter James
>I honestly wonder if he is even present on Earth, or if the body we see is his proxy and he is controlling it from off-world?
good point, he could be 30 seconds from Mars for all we know
Aaron Thomas
> is that what Wallace wanted all along?
It's really tough to say. The worst thing about this movie is how it's set up for a pretty kickass sequel but we'll likely never get one because it didn't make enough money.
I personally don't like your interpretation and I like how it's sort of left up for the viewer to decide. I DO think Joi is programmed to be what lonely people need and that she's being used unwittingly for surveillance. But I personally like to believe that she's sentient and genuinely loved Joe and wasn't deliberately attempting to mislead or surveil him.
Luis Wright
How can he control from off world wouldn't there be lag?
Adrian Peterson
Are you really able to believe that would cause a total data blackout? All backup systems wiped? All individual, off the grid power back ups (that we even have today) were somehow affected?
No, the only thing that could do such a thing is a massive EMP.
Sebastian Nelson
Is that why al gore and Obama have invested in coastal properties?
Justin Hughes
>while this one ends with snow? In LA?
yes GLOBAL WARMING. Don't you see how damaged the planet is. Humans ruined it. Jesus. Its not hard to understand. Its an industrial wasteland.
Camden Anderson
Nice
Eli Brooks
You are missing the duality. A Joi can replace most women yes, but it can also turn humans into machines through manipulation and the power of suggestion. Loneliness is an easily exploitable feeling.
Julian Lewis
No, its why NYC floods every year, Micronesia doesn't exist and Mumbai is underwater
Xavier Wood
Because sea level is already above LA in the movie. It's unrealistic, but it's clearly visible in that scene (which is dramatically effective, plausibility notwithstanding).
Whether or not it's plausible is beside the point. The events portrayed in 2022 are incontrovertibly and obviously the explanation for the Blackout.
Hunter Bailey
But if the eyes are the windows to the soul.. Are they telling us that Wallace is not human? An AI?
Ryder Rodriguez
The JOI used as surveillance thing is very much implied when Luv notices the JOI tune (the peter and the wolf theme) and says something to K about being a Wallace customer too.
Sebastian Rogers
...
Jack Murphy
its cannon you dumbfuck
Eli Nelson
Kill yourself.
Nolan Martin
fuck off weeb its a fucking gross anime and I'll never watch it I couldn't even go 20 seconds without cringing.
Gabriel Richardson
They're telling us he considers them petty and unnecessary.
Julian Gray
Think harder user. Replicants caused an event that was extremely beneficial for Wallace to advance his power and colonization. Wallace also makes replicants, who occasionally falsely believe they are acting on free will.
Mason Garcia
>The film talks about "the blackout" which could only be caused by a massive EMP, and combined with the ominous bad weather we can likely say it was a solar flare.
well your wrong. replicants launch a nuke in the upper atmosphere while on the ground resistance cells attack as many datacentres for protected backups as they possibly can
Lucas Cooper
>muh anime shorts outside the film explain everything!!
weebs really are the worst
Ryan Fisher
why Las Vegas is fucked up by radiation?
John Thompson
This fucking guy Jfc they actually spell that out in the film for you, it was a dirty bomb. Would you happen to be an american?
Isaiah Morris
Wallace literally says in this short that Earth is dying.
>this is what happens when brainlets and underageb& get to view the kino when the WEBDL dropped
ok i'll spoon feed you. Wallace is an inverse of Tyrell
look at Tyrell and Tyrell's office. he can see, his eyes are amplified by comically oversized glasses. his office is in the sky with a panoramic view of the city. Wallace is the inverse of this, he is blind and he lives in some subterranean(?) office with no windows. Tyrell creates Rachel who possesses a womb. Wallace can't even get her eyes right. Tyrell is god, Wallace is a false god, his symbolism is luciferian.
all of this you should of picked up by the dialogue and visual clues, particuarly his storming of eden line.
Tyler King
lol
Wallace does get her eyes right, its a perfect copy. Deckard tells him that to spite him and because he knows it's not her.
Wallace also lives in a massive pyramid-like structure.
I take it you call other people stupid a lot without realizing how you sound? Quite stupid.
Jeremiah Turner
Well it is buttercup so suck it up
Isaac Thompson
>webrip came out so all the poorfags are now discussing this movie People who haven't seen it at least twice in the theatre should be banned from the discussion.
Cameron Miller
the blackout is actually explained in the anime episode the 3 shorts give some insight the first one is useless the second one explains why Batista's character got caught and the third one explains the blackout
Andrew Nguyen
gee, if only there was some kind of place where you could see what color her eyes were
brainlet indeed
Michael Young
>The technician at Wallace Corp looks like a cyborb with pale skin, a hairless body, and weird implants
He is actually human. Now contrast him with Luv and K who both look totally natural and human. They even act more human than the technician.
Additionally in this scene the Tech goes on and on about the blackout wiped out millions of photos and his mother still cries over his lost baby pictures.
Now in the first film a running theme was that replicants kept photos as mementos of their existence. As 'proof' of their humanity.
Adam Phillips
Neat
Levi Miller
Just don't lump all women together user they are not all protected
Xavier Richardson
The 1st shows Wallace can do whatever he wants and no one in power can stop him
Joseph Campbell
>hur dur it was a solar flare >no it wasnt it was replicants >hur dur its not canon >yea it is >hur dur not in my head canon its not fucking kys
Hudson Perry
K already went through a journey that felt "real" whereas all her life she's been living an artificial one despite being the real child of Deckard and it's only now that she can experience life more genuinely.
Ryder Parker
>weeb telling others to kys
its like pottery
Luke Morales
im not even a "weeb" you retard lol stop being a faggot for like 2 seconds
Thomas Young
At least if you were a weeb you would have an excuse for being so pathetic
The sad truth is it's who you really are.
Isaiah Watson
motherfucker
David Rogers
I love Anna.
Aiden Hall
My sister liked the movie. Although, when Joi dies, she did say "it's just a product, he can get another"
Adrian Jackson
a solar flare wouldn't blacken the sky its blackened from pollution and nuclear fallout
they did a mini-movie explaining the blackout was caused by the replicants Deckard fled with erasing the records
Brody Allen
>Madam hitting on K and K saying he needs to go back to work to avoid her >Joi being jealous of her afterwards
Hunter Torres
After watching it i now realize that the fact that i didnt try harder to see it in theatres is going to haunt me for a very long time, that move was beautiful in every way and it must have been a great experience to see it in the kinoplex I really really hope i get another chance
Ryder Allen
These mini movies sound so much worse than just leaving things to interpretation, i bet they were made so brainlets could be spoon fed information, personally im just gonna pretend they dont exist, but i havnt seen them so that makes it easier
Kayden Foster
>not watching the voight kampf tests where her eyes are green
the reason their brown when not in extreme close ups is because the actress had a fit about wearing contacts
who's the brainlet now cunts
Luke Evans
This.
Wyatt Taylor
yeah, this I found likely too. Actually, it would be very unlikely that they weren't surveilling him through JOI as corporations have that capability today and they are very motivated to do so.
Also, there is no other way they could be so on top of the investigation. They knew even more than Madam, K's direct superior.
Asher Thomas
haha based
Christian Wright
Was Deckard and Rachael's daughter's memory implanted into all those replicants that were part of the revolution? Or was it just Joe? No one else thought to find the wooden horse if so many other people had the same memory.
Christopher Roberts
The memory implant lady was qt
Jayden Taylor
very interesting analysis
Colton Russell
...
Brody Howard
If they were, they didn't have the lead is to which furnace the horse was in without the date and DNA/orphanage discrepancy, as well as the knowledge the memory was "fake" from the ouset. Needle in a haystack even if they did beleive the memory was real.
Evan Williams
I guess I'm retarded. Why did Bautista have Rachel's bones?
Brody Robinson
She died during Childbirth so he buried her in the back yard
Henry Scott
They knew eachother i guess. Bautista was involved with the revolution group. But i don't think it's mentioned how they all come in contact with eachother
Henry James
Literally the only good post in this thread
Anthony Collins
Where do you think he got his protein from, user?
Justin Nguyen
Villeneuve introduced it, it's fucking mega-cannon. Your eyes are worthless dogshit.
Kayden Phillips
But they do exist, so any contradictory conclusions you come to will always be wrong.
Camden Taylor
Someones angry they're wrong
Joseph Ward
Saw a bunch of couples walking out during this movie, guy next to me brought his girlfriend along that either didn't understand the movie or was mad she had to accompany her boyfriend to it.
Let's be honest here, 80% of women have shitty interest and cannot be bothered to go to any movies that isn't the normie-est of romcom trash. I only took dates to shitty filler movies and don't even bother taking my current GF to any remotely interesting movie.
Jace Morgan
Didn't the blackout only affect LA? It was specifically targeting the replicant factory/databases, there's no reason it caused a worldwide catastrophe. The blackout was only important for the replicants and , the regular civilians didn't have too much to he concerned about
David Flores
A solar flare has to be directed at earth for it to have any effect. saying we're "overdue" for one is dumb because there is no guarantee we ever have to be hit by one again.
Jacob Foster
>Joi slashes K's kidney and kisses him the same way Wallace kisses and then slashes the newborn angel Does she even know how to kill or does leaving people to bleed out exploit the angels programming to kill?
>orphanage kids are all bald, is Luvs ensamble (when they come for deckard) those kids grown up and too old for the orphanage since they're bald and were wearing masks unlike luv and K regardless of there being no radiation
>Wallace's eyes are similar to the lens flare effect of the old replicants Is it Leto's ode to the old movie, is it Wallace fetishising replicants regardless of outsourcing his eyes to flying drones Also it's said that a god would make his children in his own image but why does he make luv a female and would that effect her
>The opening shot of the original BR goes from an eye to coal burning towers >2049 goes from an eye to solar farms Such an ingenious way to contrast the differences to come in 2049, coal to solar represents the shift from a dirty to clean world and the viewer should expect that from then on
