Let's be real, The Force Awakens was decent, extremely well-received, and extremely successful. Those women did SOMETHING right up until they point they hit a little snag in the fact that they had zero fucking clue what the overarching plot of the sequel trilogy would be. Can Kathleen Kennedy and the like be blamed for it? Was it Jar Jar Abram's fault for leaving a "mystery box" on their doorstep and deferring the responsibility of explaining it to Rian Johnson? Was it Rian Johnson's fault for doing whatever he wanted, loose ends be damned? Was it the Kathleen Klan's fault for overseeing any of that and giving it the go-ahead? Was it their idea to begin with? I don't know. SOMEONE at Disney does, and SOMEONE's head is gonna be on the chopping block for it. All those ideas by very creative people in the art book dump yesterday were phenomenal, even the final product in The Force Awakens as OK and had people speculating on the possibilities, but something went very very wrong with The Last Jedi.

The only thing the women did right for TFA was copy A New Hope. Even while copying A New Hope they managed to fuck it up in a way that people were okay with it but not happy. It is Kathleen Kennedys fault for not having an over-arcing story because George Lucas literally handed them one. Even if they didn't want to use it exactly as he had written it, there was still a foundation to build on. Instead she threw it out, hired hack directors, and decided it was more important to check boxes off on a diversity checkbox while also shoving their agenda down our throats instead of making a good movie.

Last Jedi proved that SJWs aren’t killing Star Wars. Rian Johnson is, not one of the diversity hires got an arc, Finn almost did. Luke suffered but all the characters got trashed equally.

TFA already did major damage to the franchise, it was just not as noticeable because the nostalgia wave allowed for high ticket sales and seemingly good reception (but only in the USA market, China, Russia, France, to give a few examples, hated it and rated it below every previous SW movie). But there was very little in the way of satellite media, except for cheapest of them all to produce, books (even SW comics of DisneyCanon are entirely concerned with the OT era). Nothing on the video game front except some content in BF II, while each previous movie got a whole bunch of tie-in games. Very little on the tabletop gaming front, and the attempts quickly died. And most importantly, there are indications that TFA merch never sold remotely well.

They completed this task very quickly when they canonized the Films, Clone Wars, and Rebels, discarding everything else. Despite having served their primary purpose, the Storygroup persisted and now acts as an arbiter of every creative decision made by writers involved with Star Wars media. Comparing them to Soviet commisars is not inaccurate. They exist outside the traditional production hierarchy, answering directly to Kathleen Kennedy and ensuring new directors and writers conform to the Party lines.
