Spirited Away
Nausicaa
Whisper of the Heart's first hour is great but it drags after it. Mononoke is great for genre films standards and most of their films are good for kid films standards.
I'd say, overall, Only Yesterday is their only truly great film.
Mononoke
Howls Moving Castle has the best music though
Laputa Castle in the Sky
Digits confirm
maximum comfy
mononoke
Arietty
...
Either Princess Mononoke or Castle in the Sky. That one with the giant bug things is a close second though.
Kiki
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya is one of the most beautiful films ever made
This.

Cried like a bitch
Miyazaki - Kiki
Takahata - Only Yesterday
tough question
Nausicaa should be praised because it was their big breakthrough during a time when such stories weren't common in animated features. And it's still got that timeless charm to it. However I'm very fond of Laputa. But most Ghibli's movies are wonderful anyway. it's like entering a french patisserie: you don't know what to pick, and its all delicious.
>best Ghibli film
Whisper of the Heart
>best Miyazaki film
Spirited Away
>best Takahata film
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya
...
Every Miyazaki film that came after Nausicaa improved on it. Of course Nausicaa was influential in a way but it is not even close to being the best Ghibli movie.
That spot goes to either Mononoke Hime, Spirited Away or Kiki's Delivery Service.
The only people who will dispute this fact are the ones that think Spirited Away is automatically a pleb tier choice because it is widely recognized as one of the best animated features ever created
I thought this one was brilliant. It was probably better for me because I went in not expecting much.
If you read the full story in the manga you realize just how inferior the movie is
Mononoke
even thought the "muh bad humans destroying innocent mother nature" theme is nothing special at all, it still was engrossing, magical kino
Princess mononoke is feminist propaganda
That movie is underrated.
i second this
I like whichever one is the least popular, but they're all good :)
Stop
>That spot goes to either Mononoke Hime, Spirited Away or Kiki's Delivery Service.
Opinions, not reasoning.
I for one find Kiki to be their worst, it's the most boring to me, the most visually uninteresting too. It simply isn't for me. To each his own.
It's about a wwi vet's struggle with survivor's guilt, and it's also the comfiest film ever made. This film should be not be possible.
>even thought the "muh bad humans destroying innocent mother nature" theme
the environmental themes are a red herring, it's another "war is bad" morality fable that miyazaki loves so much. the humans weren't bad and the animals certainly weren't good. both sides were being destroyed by the cycle of hatred between them.
It pisses me off that Miyazaki has came out of "retirement" YET AGAIN because having this as his final film was perfect.
DELETE THIS
Here's how it goes faggots:
1. Pom Poko
2. Princes Mon
3. Castle in the sky
4. Porko Rosso
5. Kiki
6. Spirited Away
7. Wind Rises
8. My neighbor
9. Poppy Hill
10. Nausicuaa
Kaguya
manipulative kino
Princess Kaguya.
Unironically Ponyo.
i second this
it still hurts

I'd rather be a pig than a fascist, or any of you faggots that like other Ghibli over it.
Only Yesterday is the epitome of Ghibli’s artistic endeavors.
These, and My Neighbor Totoro had me crying like a bitch.
Patrician
The Tale of Princess Kaguya. As much as I love Princess Mononoke, Princess Kaguya is pure sublimity. Incredible visuals, incredible story, incredible music, incredible artistic vision...it's just so much.
>tfw the scene where pic related happens
>tfw the scene where Kaguya breaks down crying and says she's fake
>tfw the scene she and Sutemaru reunite but it's just a dream :'(
>tfw the entire ending
>then this plays youtu.be
It's one of the most beautiful films ever made
Kiki is cute
Ponyo wants ham!
They have a lot of good films even the lupin one albeit looks like it was set in a different lupin universe. The ones with the isekai cat story was terrible imo
Pixar is trash in comparison with japanese studios
Kiki a fucking slut.
Ghibli power ranking:
Spirited Away
Nausicaa
Castle in the sky
Whisper of the heart
power gap
Porco Rosso
Pom Poko
Grave of the Fireflies
My Neighbor Totoro
Howl's Moving Castle
Ponyo
power gap
The wind rises
Princess Mononoke
The Cat Returns
The Tale of Princess Kaguya
Spirited Away is Miyazaki's magnum opus, Tale of Princess Kaguya is Isao Takahata's. These are their two best films.
My teenage is worshiping Miyazaki
My adulthood is to realize Takahata is the real master
Shittiest taste I have ever seen
Red Turtle.
Princess Mononoke>Pom Poko.
Pom Poko is severely underrated. There's a 1 minute sequence that accomplishes EVERYTHING Miyazaki has been doing in all his films. Takahata is a fucking genius. Everyone needs to watch Pom Poko.
I like it, but as a movie is a cheap device to manipulate your feelings. Also everything that happens since they abandon aunt´s house is big brothers´s fault.
the earlier it was released, the more aesthetic the animation
...
Apologize Now
Yup
I was pleasantly surprised by When Marnie was There, both on a narrative and animation level. Deffo check it out if you haven't already.
>a 1 minute sequence
Which one?
This, also mad feels.
Checked.
If you haven't seen Pom Poko please do not read this spoiler: When the tanuki clan, realizing all was lost, get together for one last illusion as they rewind time back to before the government started the expansion project. Three of the tanuki see themselves as pups walking with their mother, one of them exclaims "That's us!" and they all run out there, desperately chasing happier times when things were simple. Then the illusion ends because they broke formation and they're faced with two human children who are gleeful at seeing them. The contrast between the tanuki seeing themselves as innocent pups and then seeing two innocent human children was fucking BRILLIANT. It shows the tanuki that despite the humans destroying their home almost completely, that they have children just like them. Children who just want to be happy. One of the most poignant moments in all of film.
Nausicaa is my favorite comfy film, Kaguya is their best artistically. I could nitpick each film to try to justify why some are better than others (Mononoke's themes come on too strong, Spirited Away's third act has weird pacing, Kaguya feels too long, etc.) but they're only things that really bother me on 3rd or 4th viewings, I remember just loving each of the big ones (except for Howl's Moving Castle, I could tell the MC was a cunt 1st time, bothered me a bit much)
castle in the sky imo
>Mononoke's themes come on too strong
How do you figure?
Anyone who legitimately thinks that that pig movie is better than Spirited Away is mentally and emotionally retarded.
Porco Rosso is a pleb filter and your post confirms it
These posts express my view on the themes for the most part
I think you could say the same things about many of the films, that their themes are more overt than Western films, perhaps it's a Japanese sensibility.
But the second post is clarifying an ill point made by the first post, elevating the film.
The same message: Hurrdurr power is bad peaceful ordinary life is the best
>Nausicaa
Set in a world where power and brute force and adventure are actually necessary. 80-90% of the time and effects are spent on combat scenes
>Kagoya
Actually concentrated time and efforts on happiness of ordinary life and doesn't glorify violence
I think manga nausicaa is basically the ideal waifu all things considered
fpbp
its the most popular for good reason
She killed millions
It's fucking dull and cliche.
Spirited Away is basically the best kids film ever.
>the anime studio that consistently produces the most low test content is the one Sup Forums lavishes the most praise upon
Color me shocked.
I like Rosso a lot but even miyazaki is confused about why people like it so much. He said he just wrote it up for businessman to watch on flights or something and that there wasn't anything that special about the story
Any answer that isn't Whisper of the Heart is a blatant lie.
This is the only obj answer.
>Very "naive"/innocent take on deep matters, >Inspired by the early cartoons were everyone shoot each other yet no one dies (again that innocence and respect for human life and soul).
>Unusual main character, not uguu kawaii thot #34756 or quirky soyboy #913.
>It's not another hamfisted story about muh environment.
>Top tier waifu
>Women will never understand kino
but those millions would have eventually tried to wipe out the current population and fucked up the world just as before
That's what makes it good. He said it himself, it was made specifically for the enjoyment of educated men without any trace of agendas, only for enjoyment.
Porco is terrible.
I think Nausicaa is bordering on terrible and the at times well imagined imagery is ruined by daft exposition, which is the case for almost everything in the film. It butchers the manga and a good character like Kushana is reduced to a stereotype in the movie. Its only real merit is the technical quality of its animation.
It wasn't hatred driving the progression, was it? Just unchecked ambition and drive to better people's lives? I remember moderation and respect for mother nature was the key at the end. It's been awhile. Mononoke is certainly better than Nausicaa, though.
Nausicaa is short, simple and it has a good combination of adventure and epic.
It has a cross imagery by the way
T-Tales From Earthsea?
>Porco is terrible.
I certainly think it's overrated. It doesn't really work as adult entertainment because the naivete is SO extreme, but it doesn't work as children's entertainment either because it's not subject matter children would care about. It's stuck in a twilight zone of trying to turn an adult subject into something sickeningly cute.
I wouldn't say 'terrible' though.
...
Countleee Loooooad
Akira
>the comic was better the movie butchered it
Nausicaa
>the comic was better the movie butchered it
I don't think so actually. I like movies to be short
you almost got it all backwards fag. and either way, spirited away should be higher, and if you don't agree, you're a tryhard hispter.
>not technically a ghibli film but the GOAT
nausicaa manga
>objective opus films
Spirited Away
Mononoke

Porco Rosso

poppy hill
whisper of the heart

earthsea

marnie
the wind rises
>absolutely irredemable garbage, makes earthsea look good
ronja
I don't know if i like Kiki or Arrietty better
this is just based on what I've seen
>Spirited Away
now I don't know if I'm biased because it's the first Ghibli movie I watched but fuck me what a masterpiece in all senses of the word, never get tired of watching it
>Ponyo
fun fishy romp with cute characters and a neat story that's not too dissimilar to The Little Mermaid thanks Disney but different enough
>Whisper of The Heart
interesting slice of life story, made me want to listen to Country Road again and again - the struggles were real and I could connect with the whole message as a true procrastinator
>The Cat Returns
a fun little adventure with a fantastic cast who play off each other perfectly, severely underrated Haru is best cat waifu
>Kiki
same as Whisper of The Heart, the message resonated with me so much I had to pause the fucking movie and take a moment to really fucking admire and think about it - a very fun, cute and inspiring film
>Nausicaa
a pretty neat film with a great story, music and visuals, but sometimes it definitely shows it's from 1984 - not in a bad way, but it's still noticeable
>Tales from Earthsea
cool little tale, a bit hammy at times but a serviceable story
>Howl's Moving Castle
great story, great music, great art - but what the fuck was that ending, seriously
I've been on a Ghibli binge for a while but I've had to put it on hold for a while because of work and the fact that I can't decide what to watch next between Castle in The Sky, Marnie, From Up On Poppy Hill, Porco Rosso and Arrietty
Only valid answer
Why do fucking all of their films except for a couple feel like they're made for girls? Are they even capable of making movies for boys at all?
:^)
>Castle in The Sky
I recommend that one. It's just a helluva lot of steampunky fun.
