Went in without knowing what to expect.
In the beginning I thought it was going to be your average monster attacks outpost film.
Was surprised at the way it turned out.
It wasn't bad, but it was really quite odd.
I sort of gleaned some of the deeper social commentary it was trying to convey, but most of it flew over my head.
Part of me wish they stuck to the formula as the setting was great for that sort of thing.

One of the strangest genre mash up flicks ever, I love showing it to people who haven't seen it. Soundtrack is also bonkers.
Carlyles vibe during the cave scene weirds me out everytime
This movie was great, but it always through me off that practically the entire cast is killed off in the first act
Yes I thought the soundtrack was great.
Parts of it evoked images of early frontier life in its rough around the edges, simple and jarring style, and had some tribal elements in it too.
And yea that scene is definitely a memorable one. On the one hand it looked like he was almost psyching himself up to do the deed and on the other it's almost like he was performing some shamanistic ritual in preparation of being possessed by the wendigo spirit.
You fuckers with the soundtrack commentary are just joshing right? Wasn't it just MIDI music because they ran out of money?
it's legit my favourite soundtrack of all time
alright i'll relisten but if it's shit. Well then it will just be like when Sup Forums told me that Lockout was a good movie.
>Wasn't it just MIDI music because they ran out of money?
Are you fucking kidding
Damon Albarn and Michael Nyman composed it together and played the whole thing on period instruments
self post: during my search for the actual movie soundtrack i noticed that guy pearce was also in this movie (like lockout i mentioned before). I hope this isnt some Sup Forums love letter to the man who made Memento great.
the concertina and the glockenspiel together at last
That stew looked tasty
First off i saw this shit on VHS the day it was released. And this straight to thrift store VHS was quite a big gift for your whore of a mother. have respect i could be your father. I'm re-listening to the soundtrack now.
Great soundtrack. Second half of the movie is sort of a mess.
Just heard 12 minutes of this and am 99% certain you participated in high school band.
this movie was supposed to make him a up and coming star also he came in L.A confidential
And what's your opinion on Lockout?
Saw it recently too. Really weird movie.
HE WAS LICKING MEEEEE
friendly reminder that Ravenous is about Faggotry
I fucking knew it. The melody "end titles" was totally fucking MIDI music.
david arquette is a great actor
Is my favorite odd movie
the whole combo of music+story+ambient is so fucked up that make it true experience
Literally sounds like my sound cloud music lmao
>implying I have not been shilling for this movie since the summer of 2000
How long until Sup Forums starts hating it for the gay subtext?
Ravenous and American Psycho (which came out a year later) were both directed by women. If you didn't that, you'd swear they were made by men (excellent technical craft, complex tone & disturbing themes, no shoved in agenda or auteur narcissism). Seems unthinkable now.
>no shoved in agenda
brainlet
the movie is pro gay
There's gay stuff in Psycho too and B.E. Ellis is a faggot but it's besides the point.
It's subtext but it's not forced, it feels organic to the story. It's inherent to cannibal stories (see also Hannibal, written by a faggot also, or countless vampire stories with similar themes). It doesn't say it's pro gay and keeps ambiguity and leaves the viewer freedom of interpretation; you might miss the subtext and still enjoy the movie on a simple entertainment level.
> If you didn't that
If you seriously think women forcing stuff into your precious movies is a problem. you are probably ar huge retard and should kys. Stop wasting my dubs.
There is a lot of great female directors.
They do always a great job when they are focused in tell a story and no triying to be preachy.
Compare Ravenous to another woman-directed movie about cannibalism that came out last year (Raw). It looks like shit (poor craft), is pretentious tonally and has no subtlety or imagination in how it deals with its themes and panders overtly to the feminist/LGBT/SJW crowd. You're delusional if you think a film like Ravenous would get made today.
