No Country

TWBB is a film that plebeians flock to in awe, because they are nearly completely underexposed to cinema.

It is a film which exposes the tasteless, time after time.

I liked it

TWBB was enjoyable from start to finish

le country was just some edgy anime villain walking around flipping coins and killing people. can't remember much else

this

pleb

...

Very close, but no country

No Country For Old Men came out the same year as the series finale of the Sopranos, and people lost their shit over both endings. I thought that was funny.

is there anything dumber than taking movies seriously and calling people plebs for enjoying them? They are literally just fun pictures to kill time

TWBB is marred by its ludicrous ending and lack of any real interesting core message but is flocked to by pseuds who haven't seen many movies

NCFOM is one of the best Coen Bros movies

The Assassination of Jesse James, you plebs

>overlong gay romance movie with show-off meme cinematography that doesn't really help the narrative or tone, just looks "pretty"

>The Assassination of Jesse James, you plebs
imagine being this easily impressed

More movies need to experiment with lack of soundtrack desu.

that anime villain was the embodiment of death. like a grim reaper

You probably think Blade Runner 2049 is "kino" too right?

>nonexistant hairline
>thick rimmed glasses
>scrawny physique
>effete posture
>"no hate" zone
>fucking salon "I'm the pedophile, you're the monster" dot com

>le country was just some edgy anime villain walking around flipping coins and killing people. can't remember much else

Takes a lot to trigger me on this scale, good job.

>the embodiment of death
That's wrong sweetie
He was a deconstruction of the "agents of fate" narrative trope, constantly explaining that the events in which he acted were inevitable, as though he was part of their realization, but by the end of the film he gets fucked up by random chance. His insistence on using the coin is so he can disavow any responsibility in wanton murder via the pretense that he's acting on the will of destiny or higher power, but Brolin's wife was right when she said "It's just you"

There Will Be Blood.

I love the Coen bros and No Country is great, but TWBB is such a fucking tragedy and the soundtrack is classic.

Paul Dano and Daniel Day Lewis give some of the best performances of the decade.

Best villain ever, hands down.

Moss: What's this guy supposed to be, the ultimate badass?
Wells: No, I wouldn't describe him as that.
Moss: How would you describe him?
Wells: I guess I would say he doesn't have a sense of humor

No Country.

This, but unironically.

>such a fucking tragedy
That's an insult to the great tragedies
Dayview is a circus attraction, an unlikeable, inhuman asshole driven to madness in the pursuit of success for the sake of success
There's nothing "tragic" about his "fall" to madness
The kid is the only person who gets fucked and plainview using him as a way to get investment is basically the extent of his character before he's fucked up and tossed to the side only to reappear before getting tossed aside again
And Dano's one-note priest isn't anything interesting
The most interesting part of TWBB is the soundtrack

Uh, no. Cormac McCarthy said himself that he's a continuation of the unstoppable evil archetype that spans all of his books in one way or another. It's the common thread to most of his writing.

I want a source on that
what was the unstoppable evil archetype in Sutree or All the Pretty Horses?

Zodiac.

>Any of those
>Winning 2007

>It's the common thread to most of his writing
>most of his writing

fairly sure browsers made the "www" portion irrelevant some time around 2000

>Hot Fuzz
>Zodiac
>Sunshine
>28 Weeks Later
>Ratatouille
>Transformers
>The Bourne Ultimatum
>The Orphanage
>Encounters at the End of the World
>3:10 to Yuma
>Eastern Promises
>Before the Devil Knows You're Dead
>Trick r Treat
>The Bee Movie
>The Mist
>National Treasure 2
>I Am Legend

All better than OP's meme movies.

Is 2007 the definitive year drop for imdb buffs to pretend they have taste?

TWBB

Sunshine, Eastern Promises and The Mist are the only half decent flicks there.

Zodiac = Ratatouille > Hot Fuzz > the rest

>End of the year movie polls used to offer consensus; now they preserve film culture’s herd-mentality. But anyone who responds to movies for what they mean—instead of the way they are sold—must depart the herd. That’s how to find good, unheralded (often derided) films that don’t insult the intelligence. These better-than movies offer subtle, witty art with themes mangled in junk that’s praised by the critical confederacy of shills.

>The Darjeeling Limited (2007) is better than Before the Devil Knows You're Dead.

>Cœurs [Private Fears in Public Places] (2006) is better than Southland Tales.

>Hot Fuzz (2007) is better than Superbad.

>הבועה [The Bubble] (2006) is better than Juno.

>Lions for Lambs (2007) is better than Charlie Wilson's War.

>Diggers [2006] is better than Gone Baby Gone.

>I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (2007) is better than Knocked Up.

>The Brave One (2007) is better than Eastern Promises.

>War (2007) is better than The Bourne Ultimatum.

>Rescue Dawn(2006) is better than In the Valley of Elah.

>No Country for Old Men is better than There Will Be Blood and Zodiac.

>Amazing Grace better than Atonement.

>Romance & Cigarettes (2005) is better than I'm Not There..

>ratatoullie

>So, which one won 2007?
I can't call it for you. It wouldn't be fair.

>The Darjeeling Limited
why the fuck does this movie feel older than 2007? im not terribly retarded

You've grown old user

>rym
the absolute state of this board

It's hard finding Armond's pre-2010 stuff after the NY Critics Circle started having his shit deleted
also
>not knowing /ourguy/

no

>billy and mandy ended 35 years ago
damn...

You still post here, Korinefag?

Kys

>Sunshine
>The Mist
>half decent

Imagine having this Shit taste

>Transformers

No Country because its actually entertaining the whole way through AND its masterfully crafted

What's your point? The first one was good.

>OP's meme movies

>list includes fucking Bee Movie

This is some advanced bait

I can't imagine thinking Assnation is better than NCFOM, no

I love how contrarian Armond White. He's peak human.

>no mention of this

Bully Kino

2007 was over 10 years ago. oh my God

>didn't see the -berg

Waste of time

TWBB is a dumb name for a good movie.
NCFOM is a great name for a great movie.
