What went wrong?

...

I guess you could say peoples expectations were sliced through.

Nothing. This was one of the best Star Wars movies ever, but it's never gonna be good enough for some people and they will nitpick it to death and pretend it's the worst movie ever.

Shut up Rian

Why do people say this yet stayed silent when everyone praised TFA and Rogue One?

Why is it that there's a problem when they actually complain about the movie? Then it's called "nitpicking" for some reason. I'm particularly sure that you don't find the disdain of the prequels to be nitpicking, do you?

The movie was shit and now everybody knows that Disney buys reviews

Really should have had a plan for the trilogy
Also no cool alien puppets in this one
And Space Vegas /SuperLeia were pretty stupid
Didn't hate it as much as eveveryone else but it's pretty clear Kennedy is a massive fuck up. Feige has a better plan with MCU of just releasing the same film twice a year
Kennedy should have just had JJ do 3 fan service flicks that would be totally forgettable but enjoyable enough

>not enough diversity
>Poe constantly mansplaining
>Hamill is a shallow hack
>doesn't explore themes of white supremacy and the 1% as much as it should
>too much Adam Driver

I could go on

People's major criticisms of the movie haven't been nitpicks you disingenuous retard.

>movie get rightfully trashed
>shills can't do enough damage control
>ITS JUST NITPICKING NERDS!
Honestly the movie was trash but I'm thankful for the shill tears it has provided us

>better blame it on "shilling"

Blame what? The movie being shit? That's on Rian

t. soyboy

Can you tell me what that means? I don't speak reddit.

These are being directed as three separate films instead of like a trilogy. I wouldn't be surprised if none of the writers for TFA worked in TLJ. They don't have a plan, they are literally making it up while it's going. They're not cohesive, character arcs are close to non-existant, they're invaded by superfluous side-plots and they have zero personality (the same big bad totally-not-empire, the same underdog totally-not-rebels, the same totally-not-tatooine desert settings except no aliens this time). I mean, the makers are so incompetent and indifferent that they kill off Admiral Ackbar to shoehorn a woman with purple hair. The movie is set in space with a plethora of cool as fuck alien races to choose or to put into but instead they bring a fucking broad with quirky hair, is this what passes as creativity today? End of rant.

Literally manchildren who are afraid of women and POC being portrayed in positions of power.

If you think that's redditspeak then you need to get the hell out of here f.a.m.

It's honestly the 3rd best SW, the first two being ANH and TESB.

Ignore him, he's a shill trying to learn the vernacular so he can blend better.

It just.kept.going

>What went wrong?
The extremely low quality of the movie, mainly. Just as bad as the prequels, worse than some of them actually

TFA was the Star Wars movie everyone expected with only a few risks (Kylo, keeping Luke out of the picture, etc) so it really didn't upset anyone outside of autists on /teevee/

The Last Jedi fucks with your expectations and is the first auteur driven film in this series in a very long time, it was bound to upset people who spent years speculating about Snoke and Rey's parents on the internet

The truth is, they don't really care about the Star Wars fans that sit between the autistic cosplayers who go to the cinema in costume and those that don't even know who Boba Fett is. It's a film for casuals and the people that will say literally anything with the Star Wars name on it is good. Those 49% actually both love Star Wars and want to see quality movies, which isn't Disney's target audience at all. This will still probably crack 1.5 billion so they really don't need to care.

>auteur driven film
Yeah it's a shame that the auteur was a complete hack

If you don’t think soyboy isn’t due to the reddit raperefuges, you’re an idiot.

triggered manchildren tanked the score with bots

TFA was an awful boring film, but it was the first Star Wars film in a long damn time, so people bought into the hype. It’s also less noticeably bad, just mediocre all the way through.
Even Sup Forums sucked it’s dick on release, I remember I said it was shit and it gave me an absurd stream of (You)s. Like all overhyped films, it’s had a steady shift the other way, not just here but everywhere.

Exactly this.

I expect the same shift will happen in a year or so with Blade Runner 2049 also.

Damn that hacker Sup Forums. He's always doing this shit.

The script was a total disaster. For a running time of 2.5 hours, they spent so much of it wasting it on stuff that ended up not mattering at the end. Most of what was set up from the last movie didn't end up mattering either.

This stubborn online hate reminds me of the BvS hate campaign and that was misguided as fuck and probably had corporate intentions behind it. Allow me to be spectical what the Internet tells me nowadays.

They hacked the box office too and that's it had a $150 million drop!

salty much?

When you bypass obvious logic then shilling can be the only obvious answer for what you are doing, you aren't really this stupid are you? you're just doing it for disney-bux right?

>unironically using manchildren and POC
Careful when dying your pubes, user.

>cookie cutter "design a blob and make it squeak or honk or whatever and it's automatically cute" porgs
>Bland Droid comic relief
>clunky dialogue
>people not being affected by the vacuum of space
>Kicking a massive spacecraft is just like kicking a vending machine
>Cheesy kylo/Rey showdowns where they just hold their hand out and make a grimacing face while"using the force"

Too many things to just take you out of it

>raperefuges
This right here is proof you're projecting really hard and don't belong here.

What went wrong?
>Rose
>Casino Plot
>Superman Leia (should have just *not* used the final 2 minutes of footage they had and killed her off when the bridge was bombed, adding the last few minutes back as a bonus on the dvd)
>Purple Haired Feminazi who's critical failure to share important info caused a mutiny. Should be seen as incompetent instead she's made out as a hero martyr.
>Didn't flesh out Snoke (if we just had one or two Star Wars movies, this would be forgivable because of time constraints, but now that it's an expansive universe with 8 episodes, we needed development)
>Didn't flesh out Knights of Ren.
>Writers were subverting expectations at the cost of plot cohesion.

But even with all those problems I could have given it a 6/10, some of the scenery was cool and some of the Reylo stuff was engaging. Particularly the throne room battle.

But the critical failure was the ending. Revealing Luke was a invincible force projection only to kill him seconds later might be the very *sloppiest* writing ever in a Star Wars movie.

The sacrifice would have felt so much more meaningful if he made a valiant last stand in person and got killed in the process. Also, the force ghost shtick is getting old because it renders death fairly inconsequential. Have someone stay dead for once. It was cowardly cop out to avoid a very violent scene in which Luke wrecks an army but gets grievously wounded and finally killed by Kylo, which would have been infinitely more satisfying.

3/10, the worst Star Wars. I would have gave it a 6 without that shit-show of an ending.

Why the fuck do people think we should have been robbed of a Leia and Luke reunion (that serves as a fitting capstone to both characters' stories) just because Carrie Fisher died irl?

Seriously, that's autistic as fuck

Why not just make rey go with kylo? That would have been interesting. Instead we get this boring predictable cookie cutter plot.

There were two times in which I was "BASED RIAN HE'S GOING TO DO IT THE ABSOLUTE MADMAN" and both times he didn't and the resulting scenes were shit.

First one is when Leia gets blown up to space, I thought they were going to kill her that way. Maybe the crystalised corpse floating around the ship. They didn't and instead we got the Leia Poppins shit that is going to be remembered as one of the lowest point in this shit franchise.

Then I thought Rey was going to accept Kylo's offer. Like Lucas based most of the politics of Star Wars in the Roman Empire right? I thought Rey and Kylo were going to reign as two consuls just like the Roman Republic. Rey would be corrupted by the dark side and Kylo would slowly turn good as the Resistance get their shit pushed in. Like a genderbent, popcorn Macbeth. They didn't. And the movie was shit.

What went wrong OP? Everything. Disney isn't capable to make interesting movies, just entertaining ones and even then they are hit or miss

> Hire crack team of D-list young teen fanfic writers.
> Pay specific attention to said hires Tweets about "toxic masculinity" and "feminism"
> Put them in charge of story and continuity.
> ????
> Profit

>I thought Rey and Kylo were going to reign as two consuls just like the Roman Republic. Rey would be corrupted by the dark side and Kylo would slowly turn good as the Resistance get their shit pushed in

This actually would be incredibly satisfying to see.

>hits 54%
>keeps going down

Why did Luke fucking die?

I think BR2049 is a good movie. I don't think it's life changing. 2017 was a shit year for movies and it stood out as one of the few redeemable blockbusters. IMO I never considered the first BR to be that great either. People have been retroactively sucking its dick after it bombed due to public indifference.

What happened was they decided the gambit of retroactively making the entire first movie pointless was worth it because they could stick their finger in your face and laugh at how quickly they got you to give up your money to a Jewish scam.

He ran out of his blue milk mana potions.
>tfw he knew what was coming and spent all his time stocking up on mana

sith grand dragon master defeated like a fucking retard the scene was like letting the air out of a whoopie cushion

zero fucking emotion the character development seemed ham fisted and jammed in at the last minute

compare it to every other fucking movie. no not the graphics, but the emotional content.

3/10 rubber stars

People didn’t learn from Ghostbusters that intentionally pissing off your fans is a really stupid idea

fpbp

>check it
>its real

OH NO NO NO NO NO

...

a lot of the responses on here are just from salty losers that self identify with Kylo Ren and hate being reminded of the fact that edgy misanthropes who go around killing everyone and their father don't get the girl. Just because Finn Diesel and Inside Llewyn Dameron don't bang Rey doesn't mean she has to get with Ren and rule over the shitty empire like in your midnight fantasies, this isn't fucking Celebrity Bachelor. Go jerk off to your animes you stupid neckbeards

It's just a bad flick, get over it.

too many female writers

Then how do you explain THESE?

>fucks with your expectations
It only "fucks with your expectations" by having every situation end in the most stupid, boring way.
>oh Kylo still has good in him
>oh Rey is easily tempted by the dark
>nope, none of that mattered, everything stays the exact same

>a lot of the responses on here are just from salty losers
>self identify with Kylo Ren and hate being
>hate being reminded of the fact that edgy misanthropes who go around killing everyone and their father don't get the girl
>Go jerk off to your animes you stupid neckbeards
is this the strawman you developed against detractors Rian?
you really are more pathetic than Tameem

>Sup Forums sucked it's dick on release
You're full of shit. The fucking image of Han getting stabbed was being spammed all over the board and everyone was laughing at it.

Nah the movie was shit, it has a shit plot full of holes, bad acting, doesn't build up to anything, the characters are shit, the pacing is shit, the subplots are awful and the list goes on. Rey and Kylo becoming space tyrants is just something they could have done to make it interesting but they didn't so the movie is boring on top of everything else

t. otaku scum

Nostalgia clouds judgement If weak of mind, naive Padawan.

>ugh, this movie is so lame, it could have been better if the waifu Jedi went to live with my edgy self insert villain as his queen
Listen to yourself, you're like a human Bowser

>gets BTFO
>"m-muh naïveté"

...

>the movie is shit because all these reasons but at least they could have done a GOOD subversion with these two otherwise shit characters
>Y-YOU JUST SHIPPING UR WAIFU AND UR SELF INSERT
You're dumb even for Disney shill standards

Yeah, when Rose ran through a Casino planet on a big CGI horse, I knew that this movie would be too smart for the ignorant masses.

Just about everything. Where have you been the last 3 weeks?

Read the completely sincere posts about how Rey needed to go dark that I linked and try again, weaboo. You're as bad as those nigs on tumblr who said it would be rayciss if Rey didn't get BLACKED. Educate yourself

This, idiots praise TLJ because it takes on star wars in a new way, but fail too see it fucks up the execution catastrophically.

>starfag pissing all over weaboo
>pot pissing all over black kettle

Because sacrificing a character we love is more impactful than sacrificing some lady we’ve Known for 5 minutes, 4.5 of which she spent portrayed as an antagonistic force.

Luke should have lived, Leia should have sacrificed herself for the Rebellion, and there shouldn’t have been a scene where they go to a dumb Casino that they found on the cutting room floor of Attack of the Clones

My post on Rotten Tomatoes. I gave it one star out five.

Disney has found their greatest platform upon to stand and wave their banner of leftist, feminism rich, anti-everything masculine and anything to do with the true story of Star Wars.
Ryan Johnson is a yes man to the true villian of the galaxy in Kathleen Kennedy and was rewarded for his destruction of the franchise with a new trilogy for his loyalty and his deplorable script and nothing short of a parody that slaps Star Wars fans in the face.
Ryan Johnson you are no friend of Star Wars and no friend to the Star Wars fan base. It is clear and undeniable, in my opinion, that little Ryan was tasked with destroying the film, the story, potentially the franchise and did so with extreme predjudice.
The franchise is dead in the hands of Disney as far as I'm concerned. It would take two more films minimum written and directed by Gareth Edwards with no interference, rewrites, and reshoots to put this scattered story back together and put the WAR back into Star Wars and squeeze the story free of every last drop of the political venom that little Ryan and his momma (Kennedy) has had injected into and poisoned the story and soured the most dedicated fans.

>Read the completely sincere posts about how Rey needed to go dark that I linked and try again, weaboo.
I don't need to, I wrote one of those. They didn't need to make her turn bad, but it would be a good way to subvert her Mary Sue status. They do need to do something to make a good character out of her though, because so far she's one of the worst parts of these absolute shitfests

Is this what the shill textbook advises when cornered in an argument?

Hardcore fans want nostalgia porn forever.
Alt-righters want 1950 forever.

Guess you didn't see OP's pic?

>idiots
You mean critics. Critics aren't all paid shills, the truth is simpler, they just watch a lot of movies and learn to recognize (and hate) the tropes. That's why TLJ, a poorly written and plotted derivation of ESB, got 4/4 on rogerebert.com for consciously deconstructing expectations at the expense of making a good film - it broke a mold that critics are tired of but which audience members actively asked for and were denied. It's also why Bright, an equally mediocre but more enjoyable movie which had better plot construction and worldbuilding but worse acting, was given a literal 1/4 by the same site - apart from the basic conceit of high fantasy in modern times, it is a very formulaic race-parable cop movie by Ayer. Critics want variety. If you shit in their mouth, they'll take it if it's a new flavor over the same well-prepared meal every day

top bait

Shill for what, a rival Studio?

Thanks for the image

Star Wars is basically space anime, by t anime itself is less the problem than the weaboos. Star Wars fans are upstanding members of society while otakukuns are the lowest dregs of maladjusted antisocial bitter buttholes

I've marathoned a bit under 4 minutes of the camrip and I'd say it's this

>I don't need to, I wrote one of those
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

>tv sucked its dick on release
Ah hell naw. Gtfo newfag

You are the reason why everyone blames this viewer backlash on the alt-right. There are a myriad of reasons to complain about TLJ but the minute you start vomiting buzzwords you've handed the argument to the people that will keep digging up old franchises to parade their corpses in new and progressive displays. Thank you for ruining everything, you stupid fuck

It's not funny, shills like you are getting fired over this disaster

The Jew is also the reason why banks fail and everyone thinks that bankers are greedy but i don't see you doing a song and dance about that little buddy.

It's fucking hilarious, and I'll even make a bet with you. 10 bucks says I'm not being paid actual money by an actual corporation to tell you how stupid you are on a site known for pedophiles and Nazis. Want to actually take that bet, you vainglorious little mouthbreather? If you run and ask your mom I bet she could lend you the money

>unless you mention the Jews no one will take you seriously
In the real world, it works the exact opposite, user

Jesus son, calm down. It's not the end of the world being exposed as a paid shill, just close the tab and make another damage control thread like you've been doing for two weeks

I'm guessing you couldn't come up with the money?

People feeling personally invested into a shitty franchise

Is this a fucking Hillary Clinton campaign T-shirt and did they actually get authorization from Lucasfilm to do this?

Nothing went wrong. Movie is fine as it is but there's been such an oversaturation of sci-fi blockbusters that we don't really care that much anymore.

Was for

Someone made the T-shirt, the movie makers bought it, and the studio turned a benevolent eye because it fits the Narrative. It doesn't always have to be a smoking gun

>h-haha you couldn't come up with 10 dollars!
It's not about the money, shill. It's about the 2.5 hours I wasted watching this piece of shit you're paid to defend. You could say it's personal
