Why do we let them do this to us, Sup Forums?

>come watch our shitty movie rip-off of a dearly-beloved franchise
>oops we didn't actually explain any character backstory, and it's just a SJW shitfest
>THANKFULLY there's no need to worry, since you can get all that extra crap in what's basically a paperback DLC, the (((star wars visual dictionary)))
>only $24.95 plus tax

I don't. :^)

How come nobody understood the cave scene in The Last Jedi?

It was basically saying that Rey is just Rey and there is no need for her to obsess over who her parents were. The dark side was tempting her with that knowledge.

It's like people seem to forget that Star Wars is all about the monomyth.

>>only $24.95 plus tax

You know you can pirate it.

I understood it. it was just dumb

nobody is forcing you to buy it retard

Because it was a stupid scene that didn't need to be there. The movie is just so weird overall that it gives me a headache.

Did people have issues with the old VDs, too, or is it just this stuff? I mean these books are for kids and turbo-autists, I had the Prequel ones when Revenge of the Sith was coming out just because I thought the pictures were cool.

Because the movie reinforces that she's a hopelessly irredeemable Mary Sue.

OK but why shouldn't we care who her parents are? We know literally nothing about her except that her parents abandoned her on Jakku. That's not backstory.

GROW UP

I'm curious about this, too. Do people think this is a new thing?

There is nothing in the visual dictionary that helps understand the movie any better. Its just small lore trivia like the tools Luke used to find the first jedi temple

>Its just small lore trivia like the tools Luke used to find the first jedi temple
I guess the problem is that the movies act like this is something you should know coming into them, even though the purpose of a trilogy is to tell a coherent story in multiple segments. There are too many questions that are asked but never answered, too much lore that is hinted at but never made explicit, for the films to be a coherent story. There should have been an introduction sequence in TFA that explained what had happened in the 30 years since Return of the Jedi but I guess that would be too simple/step on the toes of the comic book artists Disney had already hired.

I dissagree. What information did we need that would have made the story any easier to follow? Its not like we really needed to know who designed the big magnifying glass in Snokes room to follow the plot

>There should have been an introduction sequence in TFA that explained what had happened in the 30 years since Return of the Jedi but I guess that would be too simple/step on the toes of the comic book artists Disney had already hired.

I agree with this. TFA really needed a bit more context, however TLJ has more than enough info to understand whats going on

Same here, man. They old books were badass. Showing up close the props, guns, locations, costumes. It was intense. It was like a sneak peak at the world of the movies through the art department.

I dunno what OP's autistic screeching is about. I haven't seen the books, but if they are anything like the others I've seen, they ought to be a little cool, but with everything else they've shat out and shat out, I wouldn't hold my breath

*shat on and shat out.

(Had to correct the shit part of the post)

OP has a point, but the VD isn’t too blame. Like you said, it was always for kids or autists. The issue comes from shit like C-3POs red arm or anything interesting about Phasma being relegated to books or other EU shit.

Basically, the ones who told autists to get over the EU and that nothing outside the movies mattered years ago are the same one saying “yeah but you GOT to read this new EU story it explains so much about [insert nuWars character]”

Why would ya watch any "star wars" or "super hero" movies at this point? They are cucked beyond belief

Does it explain why the lobster guards are posing like power rangers whenever something makes an unexpected sound, going in and out of "badass fighting stance" with overly elaborate flourishes?

>People seem to forget that Star Wars is all about the monomyth
Because there's so much extra crap thrown in on top done in the name of "inclusivity". In the originals the three main protagonists were generally together or addressing the same problem from different angles. Now you've got some bloody space casino shit with Rey off on an island and Po dealing with Holdo and a thousand other pissaway characters being sprayed in here and there over that.

>your family doesn't matter
>you are an island unto yourself
>nothing shapes you into who you are

This flies in the face of everything Star Wars is about. George fucking Lucas said it himself, "Star Wars is about the relationships between fathers and sons."

This may actually the biggest pile of shit in the whole film, the idea of a 100% self-made man/woman.

>Rey's heritage is teased in TFA and after the movie is released by JJ
>she has visions when she touches Anakins/Lukes blue lightsaber and hears the voice of Yoda and Obi Wan
>way too powerful considering no training
>everyone acts friendly and familiar with her
>lol tricked she's just a random girl
>Snoke is being set up as the big bad, the new Emperor only even more powerful
>flings Rey and Kylo around like ragdolls and is able to read their thoughs and create of mental connection between them even though they are possibly thousands of lightyears away from eachother
>many speculations as to who he is, where he comes from and why he has been able to establish such a massive army and why he was nowhere to be seen during the original trilogy
>lol tricked he dies like a cartoon villain
>Kylo being teased that he might turn good
>lol tricked
>Rey being teased that she might turn bad
>lol tricked
>interesting concept brought up when it's revealed that Luke cut himself off from the force (even though Rey had no right to have any sort of knowledge of this kind)
>but can then just turn it back on like a fucking switch
>no repercussions whatsoever

the entire movie has these kinds of shitty "twists" to seem smart when it is actually fucking retarded

>Anakin didn't have a father-figure until way into adulthood.
>He's completely unstable and Jedi are rightfully afraid of his many problems
>He turned to the Dark Side to be a Sith apprentice
>Even then, the Emperor turned out to be abusive

What did Lucas mean by this? That people who are fatherless end up being evil?

Fuck

I haven't even watched the movie (a few reviews I've seen turned me from "hah I want to check this out anyway" to "no way"). I haven't even watched Rogue one.

Start being like me

watch more movies and stop obsessing over the trappings of star wars (lightsabers! xwings! Empire! etc).

You can start by rewatching the original trilogy, then you can gradually start to watch other movies- the meme suggestions around here are enough to start.

After you become a person who likes movie and not a fucking neckbeard star wars obsessed piece of shit, THEN you have my permission to come back here and discuss movies

you stupid fucking piece of shit

>Anakin didn't have a father-figure until way into adulthood

What's the matter with shitty music in TFA and TLJ? What was Williams even thinking?

>OT
Opening Crawl
Credits
Leia's Theme
Binary Sunset
Cantina Band
Rebel Fanfare
Imperial March
The Emperor's Theme

>PT
The Droid Army March
A Solemn Occasion
Duel of the Fates
Battle of the Heroes
Across the Stars

>ST so far
...................................................

the fuck?

bland and boring
much like the movies

Obi-wan never saw Anakin as a son. He was only 16 years older than his apprentice. He was a brother to him. And it shows.

>Star Wars is about the relationships between fathers and sons
It still is, it's about Kylo and Han, Kylo and his grandfather's legacy, Kylo and his other father figures like Snoke, Luke and Lor San Tekka.

It’s just shitty story telling, adding in unnecessary twists for the sake of making this movie seem deep.

The fact that Disney had no plan going forward, beside making a maximum profit, is really obvious when you consider all the dropped storylines and plot holes.

Aside from the pol-conspiracy and management shitting things up I can’t see how any true fan or creative handler of this franchise let this gigantic turd slip by.

fuck off with your shitty video

Rey is more powerful than Anakin with his Darth Plagiueus imbued imba talent.
These star wars writers are just a tragic joke.

Why is the Resistance all that's standing up to the FO? Why is the Republic so impotent? Answered in the new EU through comic books. it's an incoherent trilogy. it may be coherent with other stuff supplementing it but there's no way to make it a coherent series of 3 films.

You can pick between the Visual Dictionaries and the Cross Section titles, only one, which is it? Me? Cross Sections.

>What was Williams even thinking?
He was thinking he should put as much effort into the sequels as Abrams, Kennedy, and Johnson did.

Luke's heritage barely matters until RotJ, it wasn't until the "Vader is chosen one" retcon in Phantom Menace that the entire saga became about the sacred bloodline of space jesus

In the OT Luke was the hero because he was a relatable everyman with a good and noble soul

>Luke's heritage barely matters until RotJ, it wasn't until the "Vader is chosen one" retcon in Phantom Menace that the entire saga became about the sacred bloodline of space jesus
Considering that he learns who his father is in Empire this makes no sense, the only one where it isn't relevant is ANH.

what a stupid stance a real man would strike down and just use his muscles to push the LS into her body.

If somebody hit Rey's lightsaber from above with even the slightest amount of force while she is in that position, would it not cut her own left arm off?

>>THANKFULLY there's no need to worry, since you can get all that extra crap in what's basically a paperback DLC, the (((star wars visual dictionary)))
>>only $24.95 plus tax

But you can't, they don't actually do this, and you're clearly an idiot.
