Did sexualization in superhero comics go too far in the 90s and 00s? Is the current state of affair in big two comics a reasonable backlash against it? Or is it too much?

Discuss superheroes showing skin in a civil manner.

no it didn't. Fucking bitches need to know their place. I make my wife walk naked around the house so I can randomly start fucking her whenever I want. If I were in charge at Marvel or DC I'd do the same to all the female characters.

0.5/10
Going too far was the battle cry of the 90's so if you think a book didn't then somebody fucked up. I enjoyed a lot of the sheer craziness of it all, for some reason superman with a gun made out of gatling guns comes to mind, but if you enjoy a more serous ,grounded, "real" book then the 90's weren't for you.
R.I.P. in piece one peace swimsuit costumes. You were too good for this world.

Not too far in terms of morals and all that baby shit, but too far in terms of it taking away from the stories, art, tone, and characters? Definitely.

Now go back to the kitchen and bring us our sandwiches bitch

(You chose a bad image to start the thread. It's just a horrible design. Ab windows are hideous. There is no costume that exists with that sort of window that wouldn't be 80x better as a separate top and bottom set.)

I think there's something to bed said for overall styles of art because the problem when it comes to sexualization is generally not in the designs. Like mentions the leotards, but if creators would not draw the bottoms like thongs in every situation (some girls would wear it like that though, can't make every character look the same) then they're perfectly fine and absolutely reasonable for someone performing athletics to be wearing. For some reason in modern rhetoric people attack the designs themselves and it makes no sense.

No, it didn't. What is it with Americans and their weird fear of sex?

>R.I.P. in piece one peace swimsuit costumes. >You were too good for this world.

Indeed

No it didn't go too far, since unlike today many men had higher testosterone and little to no access to porn. Which meant that, even a drawing of a woman like Op pic would get a male aroused, unlike the sissified pussy men of today, who cater to every sjw bullshit meme they can find, in hopes of getting lucky, when discussions like these are brought up. The current state of comics is an atrocity to society and clear cut hypocritical reality of the left who run the media industry. 90;s and early 00's, most real world women dress and act like they had common sense and self respect for themselves, whereas most lewdness is seen in certain magazines or your occasional comic, but not to the point that it warps the man's mind like porn does, just makes him appreciate the female form more. Today most guys can't appreciate the female body the same way because they're oversaturated with porn, "claim" to find the idea of woman with sexualized clothing horrendous in comics, yet lives in a world where most women dress just as bad or worse then Op pics on a regular basis, especially when summer starts rolling around. Claims its a bad look on young girls minds, whereas most girls don't read comics (except for the small outliers who take interest in it and were a lot more down to earth then most of the ones of today), yet still they let their kids get influence by people like Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj, Mylie cyrus etc. Comics wasn't really meant to always be taken seriously, sure of course you have your great graphic novels every once in a while, but for the most part it was a form of escapism. The 90's and such may have had their faults with most pseudo intellectual sjw comic book readers of today, but for most people who enjoyed just taking a break from the serious of the world it was great. Another thing all these fucking hipsters writing and illustrating for the industry now is horrible, its like I suppose to be reading a new agenda every time I pick up an issue.

This, and remember, Feminism was created by Jews.

it didnt go far enough

It depends the character. Not all Super heroes should have tactical outfits, some should be different and fashion minded. Power Girls costume works for Power Girls character, the same for catwoman.

But OP pic is a good example of when a costume just doesn't match a character.

tacticool is actually tactilame

I thought Batgirl's tactical outfit works for the character but Spider-Woman's new outfit was terrible.

I'm in Gail Simone s camp.

You don'tneed to tone down cheesecake, you need to ramp up beefcake so EVERYONE has sexy bods to enjoy.

>reasonable backlash
Is Marvel's tanking sales a reasonable backlash against their editorial policy?

Yep. Totty for everyone, that's the way forward.

see: The Skataris Secret Six arc, which has everyone barely wearing clothes

Hell, Lady Vic was literally just wearing a belt

No, it was fine and I miss it.

Let me know when we get back to Black Condor and Phantom Lady levels

I mean the costume should reflect the character's personality.

If the character is suppose to be some sort of seductress or some sort of savage then wearing skimpy outfit is okay.

But when characters like Huntress or Wonder Woman wear a swimsuit it looks kinda dumb.

>Did sexualization in superhero comics go too far in the 90s and 00s?
No.
>Is the current state of affair in big two comics a reasonable backlash against it?
No.
Or is it too much?
Yes.

Wonder Woman needs a more greek angle, the pant suits looks as stupid and out of place as the swimsuit.

>Mother of two children
>This outfit

It didn't go far enough.

You must be 18 or older to post here.

Yes and no. I mean as long as the sexualization doesn't rob the charector of their badassness I'm all for it. But it can get absurd at times if not done correctly.

Yeah, the problem is with art and not knowing when to stop or which characters just won't work that way, not the existence of revealing designs.

You hit then nail right on the head :-)
