the forces committed are extremely disproportionate. the germans and the italians held the entire line with less men than were allocated just for the siege of moscow. the western front was not the same by any means, not in intensity (aside from bombing raids) not in scale. when the russians broke german lines in the summer of 1944 it was over. it wouldve lasted maybe another year without allied involvement, but it was over.
