(((Critics)))

Will Smith's performance was a little underwhelming.

The masses are mostly plebians. Everybody knows this

Critics got no clout

...

Will Smith doesn’t even need to act anymore. He just shows up and the plebs clap and holler and throw money at anything he is in regardless of not how bad it is. See Suicide Squad.

I was ready to hate this movie and it was fine.

as if thats not the case with every/or most of the famous actors
Hopkins, deNiro, Pacino, Stratham etc same character most of the time

...

Netflix is a huge threat to the studio monopoly that exists in Hollywood, if we assume critics are bought and paid for (which for me is getting harder and harder to deny) then they are going to shit all over anything they make, it's the same as when Netflix's first ever film was booed until it was switched off at cannes.

Also I don't think Netflix is a hero in all this, I don't see trading one monopoly for another as a solution.

is it tinfoil hat tier to suspect that hollywood leaned on or somehow otherwise influenced the critics because it was netflix's first big movie with an a-list actor?

It wasn't all that bad.
For a Max Landis "Alien Nation" rip-off it had some interesting bits.

I loved the visual effect on the wand, every time it was on screen it felt like it was tearing reality apart.

It's literally what happened mate

He should direct the Han Solo movie

You've already heard it, and probably know the answer. Paid critics.

Reviewing became more egalitarian with the dawn of the blog and internet age, time-tested writers/critics who made a real career out of reviewing movies had to compete with this new onslaught of reviewers and the idea that just anyone could become a critic. The modern critic freelances and has no institutional protection, so when their new movie review website puts out a bad review of a movie that the advertisers (that are paying the reviewer a cheque every month to run his website and blog and contributes to the revenue they get from youtube) have a financial stake in, they tell them to change the review or risk losing money.

It's the state of the industry and the consequences that came from the "everyone's opinion is valid on the internet" idea coming around.

At the end of the day, not everyone's opinion matters, even if their movie blog has 30k followers.

>job reviewing hollywood movies
>film comes out, not from hollywood
>"it's shit"
I dunno, it's a mystery.

Audiences are stupid and shouldn't be trusted

This. Netflix's way could fuck up the traditional studio distribution and the role of the critics.

Critics are losing all credibility. We need real film critics back like Ebert & Roeper or Pauline Kael. These millennial soyboys that review everything from a social justice/critical theory perspective are ruining the profession, and that goes for games and music too.

People hate critics so much that they will purposefully give a shitty movie a good rating?

Its exactly what happened to Beasts of No Nation before getting wrapped up in the "so white" hysteria, despite being the only movie in that group actually good enough to merit awards.

netflix botting user reviews

No. After the Star Wars VIII shitshow we know that critics are unironically bought.

4.3/5 is way too high, tho.

Wait a minute, what dictates how we perceive what is and isn't tin foil hat tier? Oh right, it's Hollywood and the mainstream media who depict those who suspect collusion and conspiracy as crazy people.

Some critics are cool.

she obviously liked it

Nicholson fires back at SJWs with some BANTZ

Starring Will Smith as Will Smith

1. masses have shit pleb taste (as they should, because they are the definition of plebes)
2. critics are paid off by the big studios to like their big movies

here, your explanation. Both groups are shitfucks

they don't want netflix making movies with new ips, they just want hollywood doing more remakes with an sjw agenda

I don't give a fuck about the SJW boogeyman, and going from what I've heard of it it doesn't sound like that good of a movie, but reading the reviews, it's 90% "muh race relations" and 9% "lmao fantasy so silly"
