I fucked up and missed it. Might watch it on iPlayer now. Was it kino again?

They've gone all Shakespearean

It was a nice return. Maybe a little bit weak. Not nearly as dark or uncomfortable as some of the other eps

Interesting choice to start the series

>tfw tv license ran out

Oh is this the rumoured stanza-only episode? I've been looking forward to that one.

Absolute comedy kino, closest thing I've seen to an actual original modern Shakespeare comedy.

You just don't let the men through your front door.
A solid lock and a loud voice to shoo them away is all you need.

Pretty good, enjoyed the colour scheme.

Also making sure they have that diversity quota for the incoming bafta.

Are you telling me this still hasn't gotten a BAFTA yet?

I moved to Ireland for work and Jesus Christ there is no iPlayer here at all, like no bbc. Is there a streaming link for this yet I can watch like a pikey. I pay my tv license ffs

Favourite episodes?
I think my favourite is still Nana's Party

A Quiet Night In or Cold Comfort

Quiet night in was great!
Its nice seeing them resurrect these dead comedy tropes

Private View was brilliant and I love a murder mystery.
Cold Comfort was also brilliant and haunting, and I liked the use of the split screen cameras.
Honestly, there's not a bad episode in there, but those two always spring to mind.

Cold Comfort reminded me of the old school JAM sketches. Any recommendations for other comedies using discomfort as it's main delivery?

I wish I could help you, but dark comedy like this is very rare. I suppose you've already seen The League of Gentlemen?

Charlie Brooker sometimes feels in this vein. Especially his short lived detective show A Touch of Cloth. If you like these guys just seek out their influences. Lots of hammer horror, Hitchcock. I guess also the films of Ben wheatley tend to run in this vein. And the compilation movies The ABCs of Death

genuinely hilarious. God knows how long it took them to write it

I've been meaning to watch A Touch of Cloth, never watched it before. Is it as good at blending comedy with horror/suspense?

As for other recommendations I'm drawing a blank. Sure, you can look at Shearsmith and Pemberton's influences, and sure, hammer horror films and Hitchcock's works are great with suspense and shocking twists, but there's never really a comedy element. Mixing those themes with comedy is something I've only seen with the Shearsmith/Pemberton/Gatiss/Dyson team.

Yeh TLOG is great aswell and I enjoyed psycho ville to some extent also. It's sad there's no more

Touch of Cloth is good. It goes for shocks with sex/violence/gore but it’s more tonally like Police Squad, Just dressed up and paced like a gritty cop show.

Hitchcock is darkly comedic thru and thru. He’s not “comedy comedy” but tune into his sadistic wavelength and his films ARE funny.
I think you’d like Ben Wheatley’s film Sightseers. I guess nothing is really like League of Gentlemen though.

Oh I just remembered Stag. Went very under the radar, but it's brilliant. BBC 2 miniseries of three episodes that aired in 2016. It's about a stag do that goes horribly wrong, it's really funny while also being really suspenseful, and there's lots of LoG-esque horror. Shearsmith even acted in it. I highly, highly recommend it.

Yeh Ben Wheatley is really good for comedy I always enjoy how dry it is. I though cross fire fell on its face quite abit

Tonight's episode was on top form, these guys are masterful writers in their own right but doing a Shakespearean episode must have cost them a lot of time and effort. Amazing how they keep doing original things even four series in.

Did anyone watch Flowers? I thought that was a great mini series. Lots of dark nuggets of humour and a classic jap drawing hentai which was lovely to see.

I should pick that up again, I watched the first two episodes a while ago. Very bleak I thought, but the Japanese dude drawing a superhero with a huge cock or something as a present really made me laugh

While it focuses more on improv comedy rather than horror I really liked Murder in Successville, where celebrities keep getting murdered and the guest of the week needs to solve the case without knowing any of the script. It's very original.

That sounds right up my alley I'll give it a wee watch on catch up.

This was good, and quite Shearsmith/Pemberton in style and conceit even if they weren't directly involved.

Happy Valley had a comedy-thriller vibe, though definitely more thriller. Some really funny bits though, and it has the same sort of Inside No 9 dense clever plotting with everyone telling more and more complicated lies. Steve Pemberton's in the first series too.

That was enjoyable. Did you watch the League of Gentlemen specials that happened in December?

Glad it happened! Loved seeing Royston Vasey again

Was this the first happy ending they ever did?

LoG Apoc had a somewhat happy ending.
Did Psychoville have happy ending? I genuinely can't remember. Haven't watched it since original broadcast 7 years ago.
Pretty sure the first happy ending of Inside No. 9 though.

OH jeez, a thread about one of my favorite British shows, I thought this was board was full of numb brain prequel lovers.

I fucking loved the Krampus episode from the last season, top-notch ending.

Is this show the good version of Black Mirror?

I felt let down that it never made me a little hollow

I missed out the third season unintentionally. Is it as good as the first two?

Nah remember the karaoke one last series? That was lovely

Another lovely British writer. If you haven't seen JAM yet it's a delicious slice of black comedy.

Couple of dud episodes. Not quite as good as season 2 in my opinion but roughly on par with the first season.

There's a couple really of good episodes, and a few not that great ones but still watchable. over 7/10 for the season.

Just picked up the DVD of the complete 'Brass Eye' today from a charity shop. Not seen before but am looking forward to it.

slightly off topic but i need an answer

there was a comedy on ITV about 10 years ago now, it was about a big criminal family whos father was in prison, the mum was a stacked MILF, with two sons and a daughter, there was an arch where a local Chinese gangsters daughter was banging both of the brothers thinking they were the same person

The Krampus episode is one of my favourites, loved the Garth Merenghi-style vintage-look-with-bad-acting feel. Snuff film twist was great.

>Is this show the good version of Black Mirror?
The only thing they have in common is that they're anthology series with a bleak atmosphere. Inside No. 9 is so brilliant because it takes a bleak or suspenseful atmosphere and flawlessly combines it with excellent humour.

>Amazing how they keep doing original things even four series in.
It really is astonishing how they keep the quality high throughout, and how they keep taking risks that pay off, like this Shakespeare episode, 12 Days of Christine, A Quiet Night In, Riddle of the Phinx (that's god tier writing) and so on. They never retrace old ideas.

Sardines / La Couchette is the closest similarity I've found between two episodes yet even then they stand out as their own unique stories.
