Neo-Noir is a meme genre. Watch real noir.

there is already a noir chart

Miller's Crossing is sublime

>what's the rumpus?

But neo-noir IS noir, just noir that is made more recently than the 50s or so. "Real noir" is great, but if you limit yourself to "real noir", you're limiting yourself to never trying anything made more recently along those lines.

The Long Goodbye is fucking awesome.

I’ve always called it “negro-noir” but, Devil in a Blue Dress is damn good. Young Denzel and Don Cheadle.

Also, what was the one with Joseph Gordon Levitt as a high school kid who talks like a 1930s gangster? Sorta cringe my but it’s a fun spin on the genre.

Brick, directed by everyone's favourite at the moment Rian Johnson.

Its very stylistic as to not be everyone's cup of tea but I think highschool people talking like Sam Spade works because when you're in highschool you do treat everything with that degree of seriousness. It only seems insignificant in retrospect.

Thief
To live and die in la

I like your take on it, maybe that’s why I enjoyed it so much. Exactly how I went through those teenage years...everything is a big deal and should be handled seriously. Kinda treated life like a big drama movie.

Some of the stuff was a little silly/outrageous like the main “villain” but it also had really dark shit which we all probably flirted with in high school. Totally forgot Rian Johnson directed too!

I'm not sure if it counts strictly as noir but I really liked Inherent Vice.

>noir essentials.jpg
>lists over 50 movies

I think "essentials" lists should be limited to 9 max (3x3 images.)

I'm not a big fan of Nolan, but Memento is a great neo-noir.

>Double Indemnity
