Star Trek where start?

So I've always been a Star Wars fan, but as of late I've find it hard to like them anymore. Yesterday I saw a Star Trek movie and really liked it. I'm not sure what it was but the cast of pic related, but older. Where do I star?

The Next Generation for episode of the week style, it's mostly interchangeable so you can almost start anywhere. Check out a few episodes and see if you like it.

Deep Space 9 is where it's at. Continuous story that constantly progresses with a lot of space politics. Once you get to season 3-4 almost every episode knocks it out of the park.

Voyager was meh in my opinion

Haven't seen enough Original Series, but the ones I have seen were good.

Never seen any Nu Trek

Forgot to mention: obviously watch Deep Space Nine in order

>Nu Trek
It was actually my first view, and I thought it was cool to see the villain from Heroes again. But like I said in description I liked the older movie better.

There are definitely some good episodes in TOS, but I personally wouldn't recommend it to a noob over some of the later series. Go back and watch it after you get a taste for Trek if you want.
I would recommend watching 2,3,4, and 6 of the original movies. 3 isn't great, but 2,3, and 4 are kind of a trilogy.
And then like said, watch TNG and DS9, then the TNG movie First Contact.
Beyond that you should be able to feel your way through the rest of the series and determine for yourself what's worth your time.

Thanks. At first the only thing I new about Star Trek we're ppl went to convention in shirts and dressed up like Spock. Recently I've been trying to get into Syfy, but most of it was b-movies.

Start with TNG, then DS9, then VOY, and after that TOS or ENT

Don't listen to these redditors OP, TOS is the true trek which everything else is built on and is one of the most iconic shows in television history. Just start with that, there's only 3 seasons anyway.

Don't listen to the die hard neckbeards. there's no such thing as "Real trek". It's what you like. Find a series that you like the look of, and grab some snacks and diet soda and binge. You can even watch episodes out of order in the earlier series like TOS and TNG.

this but don't start with it, or at least don't watch it all at once because it's honestly pretty dated (still great for 60s TV standards though)

The "special editions" they put out some time ago help some with that. But yeah, they are pretty dated, which is I why I recommended to not watch them first.

Start with TOS City on the edge of forever, Balance of Terror, and Amok Time. Anyone that says to start later is a fag

I actually like seeing dated stuff. Maybe it's because everything is CG up the ass. I like looking at something physically on the screen. I'm looking forward to seeing all the different types of aliens, since star wars aliens are all categorize now.

When I started I started with ToS and I didn't have any problem starting there. Certainly the REALLY old episodes held up better than the early TNG episodes if you ask me. If you're on Netflix I see no reason why you wouldn't start there and just go trough all of it in order of release.
Yes most episodes are "the thing of the week" but every now and then there are callbacks and those are more gratifying if you have watched the source of the callback.
Things that will make you suffer a bit: ToS Season 3 and TNG Season 1 and 2.

The Next Generation and DS9 are probably the most accessible. The original series would probably be tough to start with since its dated as fuck.

Start with TOS. People who claim it's too dated should be ignored.

Try Std. Its a true return to form. Embraces everything star trek, including new trendy things like fidget spinners and plot holes in a bid to become relevent again.

Start tos then tng then ds9

TOS is the best

TOS is such a mixed bag that it's the only Trek series I haven't actively attempted to finish. If you wanna start there, look up the top 20 or 30 episodes, but leave the rest for now unless you're really that curious.

TNG is awesome, worth watching in order if for no other reason than to see how it progresses out of its terrible-but-hilariously-so early episodes into a really competent sci-fi series by the 3rd season. Still, you're mostly free to skip around. The last season, season 7, is a drop-off in quality, but its finale is one of the best episodes of Star Trek ever.

DS9 is my favorite Trek series, but must be watched in order to really work. There's some episodes you can skip, but you may miss out on little bits of character development. Season 7 also sees a drop off in quality, and parts of its finale are... questionable. Overall, however, I think it's the most fully realized series.

Voyager is a total step down for the franchise as a whole. It fails to properly build on what was a solid premise, and is plagued by inconsistent writing and characterization, most notably of Captain Janeway herself. Still, it has a few really good characters (The Doctor, Seven of Nine), and more than a few good episodes. Find some recommended episodes and focus on those.

Enterprise you may wanna skip. It got better in the later seasons, and there are some decent episodes scattered throughout, but it ends on the sourest fucking note in all Star Trek after getting cut off at 4 seasons, and marks the end of the 2nd Wave of Trek.

I liked Nu Trek alright, just don't think too hard.

The Star Trek TOS Movies are good, even the bad ones have kitsch to them. Star Trek II is widely regarded as the best of the TOS. III, IV, and VI are solid enough, I is a long, boring acid trip, and V is fucking terrible. The TNG Movies are kinda trashy in a dumb 90's way, but without the kitsch or fun. First Contact is alright, if you had to see one of them.

How's DST?

The original series, TNG and DS9, in that order or at least priority.

TOS is wonderful and you should watch every episode and here's my top 3 reasons why:
1. The characters are iconic and lovable. Captain James "Jim" T Kirk, Mr Spock, Dr "Bones" McCoy, Scotty, Chekov, Sulu, the back-and-forth between them all is always a strong point of the episode.
2. Sexy women everywhere. From female crewman on the Enterprise to alien princesses and everything in between. The low-cut dresses and shapely figures never end.
3. The acting of William Shatner, his monologues are captivating, his speech is infectious, his movements are inspired, you will laugh but you will understand its brilliance
The biggest obstacle is the slow methodical pace because modern television is far more frantic by comparison, but you will sink into it within a few episodes, and then it's extremely comfy to go on a journey with these characters, tackling every new adventure with cleverness and humanity

mommy

>Diet soda
Don't know why I laughed

You definitely want to do TNG before DS9. TOS is either way, I'd recommend it but if it's not your thing no problem, it's not for everyone. You really just need TNG to lay the support and groundwork for DS9 to have full effect. TNG is great in its own right to and is many peoples favorite.

TOS is only 3 seasons long watch it first, it just feels right that way. It won't take long. Then of course TNG, DS9 and I personally liked Voyager, if you've liked what you've seen so far you'll like VOY enough. ENT is the same

>How's DST?

Better wait for the whole season to be out first. I'm liking it, I just hate waiting

pleb

If you're starting with the TOS you should probably keep "The Cage" for later. It wasn't meant to air and the plot is reused in a two-parter

TNG, then DS9. All episodes, in order. No skipping, no "guides". Some of the episodes in the early seasons are pretty bad but you need to ingest them all. DS9 is great but you really have to start with TNG to understand Trek culture and see how they got to where they're going.

Watch TOS, period.

>I is a long, boring acid trip
its one of the best examples of classic era sci-fi put on film.
maybe 2 sequences are 2001 style boring but you can skip those without any loss

While you are watching TNG and then DS9, you may, if you choose, watch TOS concurrently as you see fit. TOS was basically just "Americans in Space" anthology show. It's good, but it doesn't really spend much time on the worldbuilding that establishes the United Federation of Planets and what values they stand for as TNG does. And even TNG has a few oddball Roddenbury episodes that are better off forgotten once viewed in the first two seasons. But you can't skip a thing, that is what plebs and redditors do. You want to understand Trek? You want to know what made it a driving force in ""nerd culture"" for so many decades (back when that term meant something)? You have to watch it all.

Star Trek, especially the television shows are really not like Star Wars at all.

Start with the first episode from season 4 of Black mirror

jesus christ appart from the obvious hate bonner those blockes have for star trek can we talk about that stupid dna stuff ? like how come they retain their personality when all he have is their DNA ? He should just get a bunch of meatdolls with this. also why does stealling the lolipop and so on would prevent him from just making a copy of them out of the datas on his fucking computer? I'm 100% sure they killed that fucker just so they don't have to explain how fucking stupid that is.

Tos is like old crime shows but in space try it if you like old stuff tng is where all the star trek kino starts and it stops with the Orville because fuck you STD

This guy here: One thing I can tell you about ToS: You won't expect how much of it is more Space-fantasy than hard sci-fi.
ToS is full of actual space wizards and straight up magical creatures. Something that is very much scaled back in modern trek.

TOS is cough in spanish

DS9 sucks in any order
it is truly awful
totally unwatchable Trek

it says "butt" in the i.d.

Seen TNG and TOS. TNG was good but imho opinion doesn't even compare to TOS. Tasted DS9 and it was up and down for the first half of season 1, I'm looking forward to diving back in.

Don't start DS9. DS9 is the fucking best and the best because it just doesn't bother pretending the audience doesn't know what's going on.

Watch all the movies for a primer and then jump in with either TOS or TNG. No one who loves Star Trek enough to recommend these starter guides started somewhere sensible they all jumped in on a random episode on TV.

it's really gets rolling near the end of season 2

Hi, Bill.

>Chekov
Eh. shit tier comic relief character designed to look like boy bands at the time to attract a younger, more diverse crowd.
Honestly if something like that was added to trek these days, Sup Forums would throw a fucking fit the likes of which haven't been seen since baneposting.

A sympathetic and likeable portrayal of a cheeky Russian scamp? It would never happen in the first place

Likeable cheeky scamps where actually invented in Russia.

Now post her without 20 feet of makeup on.

Why didn't Picard just fuck Lwaxana? Could he really have found her so repulsive that he would do anything to get out of having to satisfy her growing Betazoid libito?

>Could he really have found her so repulsive
Yes, she was disgusting

You on the left. It makes sense that Picard would fall so hard for Vash since she kind of looks like a dude.

At least Vash was interesting and wanted something out of him other than just marriage for the sake of marriage. Of course, what she wanted was to con him.

I've gone back and learned up on the episode I was referencing. You're right, she wanted to marry him, and I guess it would have been offensive to her if he boned her, then left it at that.

And I don't think she really cared about Picard at all, she just wanted to get married to an age appropriate man with high social status.

If her cultural beliefs were more lax I'd see no issue with Picard pumping and dumping her just to satisfy her temporarily. Holding all of that sexual energy in must be difficult ant taxing for Lwaxana.

TNG to start out with and understand the universe. First two seasons are clunky and then once 3 hits it gets progressively better until the end. The HD transfers look freaking amazing by the way.

DS9 has a lot more depth, but same thing as TNG: first few seasons are clunky (their budget was extremely limited until TNG ended), but sticking through them will reward you with some great characters and some amazing story-telling. The Dominion War arc and episodes are unironically litty, and it relaxes the demanding "optimist human ideal" of earlier Trek to make the characters a lot more relatable.

Voyager is alright. It's Star Trek, but it's more "episode of the week" driven. Good production though.

I wouldn't bother with Enterprise unless you really get into Trek.

TNG season 2. TOS has aged terribly and isn't worth the effort to slog through. The movies are good though where the TNG era movies are shit. From there follow them in release order.

Start TNG season 1. Skip original series. Continue until end of deep space 9. Watch enterprise. End with voyager and skip all the movies except for first contact.

Start with TOS. It's pretty simple compared to later Treks and there's a reason it's so popular. TNG builds on it, DS9 builds on that, etc. Please don't listen to anyone who says it aged poorly. If you have good taste you'll enjoy it.

This is bait. Don't listen to this.

No. It is the truth. Bait my ass troll.

Oh, and on TOS: If you can watch 60s TV and enjoy it, go ahead and start here. The remastered episodes with updated effects look great.

But if you start watching TOS and don't like it, move on to TNG. If you get into Trek, you can come back and look at TOS as just another Trek series that happened to be made in the 60s.

You can jsut watch random or selected episodes of TOS while you are watching TNG and DS9. Like I would recommend watching the Trouble with Tribbles before or during DS9 for example.

Please don't listen to posts like this, OP. He wants to hinder your capacity for enjoying things.

>hinder
>JJ Abrams trek and the terrible original series
Gtfo

>he likes JJ trek
Confirmed retard. Never take this guy's advice, OP.

>can't read
>literally said JJ Abrams trek is shit as is the original series
Idiot. TNG and DS9 beats all other trek.

>haha
haha

The way Kira smiles warms my heart. That's how you know a character is good. You feel what they feel.

>I'm just pretending to be retarded
Ok

Geordy never laid?

I know right what a loser that guy must be haha

No namecalling

Why the markis join voyager crew i f they dont like the starfleet?

Right who would ever name call haha

U called him loser

Yeah why would I do that haha

I had the same problems with this episode, biggest one being the DNA contained the personality and memories of the crew members. To add to this, why did the writers even have the heroine go through the trouble of stealing the DNA if he was going to die? And if he wasn't going to die what's stopping him from obtaining new DNA samples? Probably the worst story in Black Mirror to date.

Because they had no choice. Maybe watch the pilot again.

...

another decent trek thread ruined by autism. TOS is the best one, go wherever after that

No. Tng.

Start from the start.
TOS>TAS>TOS MOVIES>TNG>Generations>DS9>VOY>TNG MOVIES>JJ TREK MOVIES>THE ORVILLE>DISC

>TOS is the best
>not autism

Kai opaka or kai ren? I like ren best

my recommendation would be to pick out the best TOS episodes and watch those first. There's very little continuity to worry about.
>the one with the black and white faces
>the one with trelane
>the wargame one where they execute people
>the menagerie
>is it bad that I don't know the episode names

Then just go straight into tng and watch the whole thing. Anything else is pretty much optional.

Hello, Trekkie229.

Add Halo Legends to the top list.

Stop making fun of autism.

I watched them all straight through a few years ago.

Took a few months.

Who is that?

notice how TNG fans get triggered if people disagree with them. this is because TNG fans are all autistic and can't conceive of other minds

That informatin does not helpthe thread, bud

Great. Y bring namecallng to the thread . Thak u so much, buddy

Is sisco religious with the prophets or does he not really believe? Is atheist?

He is spiritual but knows they are wormhole aliens, so powerful that their prophecies are to be taken serious.

I just finished DS9 lastnight, I really enjoyed it at times even more so than TNG. Both are great but DS9 has so many great characters like my BOI GUL DUKAT

Odo harased qvark for no reason

I was really expecting Odo to give Quark a hug at the end or something
