The Florida Project
what was the point of making the willem dafoe character do the "i'm gonna fix that washer" thing at the end of the movie. it felt like the writer realized he was too perfect/faultless of a character the whole movie so he had to throw something in to make him look bad at the end
OMG —— !!! Da kino ε=ε=ε=ε=ε=ε=┌(; ̄◇ ̄)┘
Don’t understand the hype. I guess it would be shocking to some that people live like this and this film is shedding a light on some trash type people... I know people live like this and have been around shot people like this... why do I wanna watch 2 hours of fucking kids ducking with William dafoe? I loved tangerine too.
it's definitely overrated, at least by a little bit. it's not bad though
I am discussing!
It's not even that it makes him look bad.
It's just that Bobby is trying to cope with what's taking place right now. He just off-handedly mentions he's gonna fix the machine to take his mind off things.
Children cruelty and forgiveness ending was like a death sequence.
What a shit film. The mother was an out of control degenerate and her kid should have been taken away much sooner!
so the movie was bad because the mother was a degenerate?
Sup Forumstard film criticism everybody
what do you think the old dude from NJ was going to do if bobby didn't intervene?
Drink soda
Was Moonee being taken away from Halley for the best?
cunny
Waste of nearly 2 hours of my life. Made American whatever the fuck it was called with Shia LaBeouf last year look like the kino of the decade by comparison
I mean, that's the point of the film.
>He just off-handedly mentions he's gonna fix the machine to take his mind off things.
That, and also because the apartment complex maintenance and upkeep is something he has control over. He tried to control Hailee but it ended in failure and that got to him. He tried to control his family (presumably) an that ended in divorce and a son who doesn't like him. Bobby is a lonely man.
Acshually that is the opposite of what it did. Made American Honey look like a festering pile of pig poop. The Florida Project was much more accomplished and it had much less to work with.
based
absolutely.
American Honey was a pile of pig shit, but it still managed to be halfway entertaining. I kept expecting something, anything to happen in this movie other than little kids walk around and babble, but nope. There weren't even fascinating background characters or good cinematography for it to stand on
it was beautifully shot apart from the last iphone footage
not much else apart from nice visuals i didn't care for the movie. inb4 le film is visual medium meme
>but it still managed to be halfway entertaining.
The fact that you considered American Honey entertaining at all, especially compared to Florida Project, is an abject sign of your shit taste. American Honey is a garbage love triangle flick for women with small minds. The poverty porn aesthetic is just there to distract less discerning viewers from what they are actually watching. Florida Project instead chose to avoid the Hollywood 101 script traps that American Honey just happily fell into (the inclusion of a firearm for absolutely no reason, for example). It is hands down the more accomplished of the two from an aesthetic, story, and thematic perspective. I have no doubt FP will be remembered far more fondly down the line than AH.
No it's not. It's a "humanistic portrait" of a scumbag who we are supposed to pity because she isn't allowed to sell her shit while loitering outside of a country club.
>who we are supposed to pity
That is absolutely wrong.
You've taken your time to think about a logical response, thats something I can give you that I can't for most anons. I think it comes down to a matter of taste in the end
This is what the director does. Just watch his previous flick about trashy tranny hookers.
I didn't see that yet but you are absolutely not supposed to pity Hailey in this movie. She is human garbage who just lets her kid run wild, talks down to everybody, and has a horrible attitude/outlook on life that makes everything worse.
youre an asshole, user
who was in the wrong here?
Critics all seem to think we should sympathize for her.
i ignore everything with "project" in the title
I don't trust critics I trust my eyes.
>he doesn't like The Alan Parsons Project
Is that sandy kane? That crazy hooker who used to be on O&A?
I agree, but the movie is deliberately made as liberal pandering.
pandering? I don't disagree that it is poverty porn and most left-leaning viewers will come away with it feeling like they need to make a difference for a few minutes but I really think the movie is more of a voyeuristic look at people who are fundamentally broken and can't be fixed. Like Dafoe's character resigns himself to at the end: He can't fix these people, but he can fix the building!
Cool story, bro
