Umm, Sweetie, they're making a SLENDER MAN movie.
I think I've said enough :P

Same reason john wick was the first iconic action hero in a decade++

movies based on memes are not real movies

vidya took over

Because no one wants to "name" the monster anymore.

fuck off grandpa. the day your BS mattered has long past.

Because slasher movies aren't that popular anymore. Most of the mainstream horror movies are paranormal based in some way (or zombies). It's not some horrific person/monster hunting people down one at a time.

Also what do you mean? Like super recent? Cause some of those examples in that picture are relatively recent.

I would still put Jigsaw in there though as an icon, and it/he is still relevant.

Because existing IPs are the only thing seen as worth producing as far as horror movies go. And when they create something new, it's The Bye Bye Man and a fucking haunted doll. Imagination has been beaten out of the people currently working at the major studios.

The same mojo that Universal monsters, 80s horror, and 80s action had is currently behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Someday that mojo will move on and a different genre will spawn a bunch of iconic characters. Maybe even the Horror genre again.

Uh, try again sweetie

What about le play game doll?

THE FUTURE IS NOW OLD MAN

Jigsaw is from 2006 and hasn't been in a movie since Saw 3.

They only become icons because they have fans lifting them to that level.

What you didn't enjoy the infamous murderer MARK HOFFMAN?

...

There are. I'd just argue they're not as popular as a Leatherface or Freddy. Some horror icons of this decade off the top of my head:

>Annabelle
>Babadook
>Blind Man
>Mr. Boogie
>The Hush guy, maybe?
>Pennywise (to an extent)

The issue is, slashers aren't popular anymore. Maybe the Halloween revival this year will reboot its popularity, but I kinda doubt it. Paranormal films are what's big right now and these studios today don't put too much stock into the villains of those movies. The focal point is the families more so than anything else.

The Conjuring did a good job with Annabelle. They ended up making two movies about her.

*ahem*

It's kind of funny but Five Nights at Freddy's is probably the most iconic original horror monster nowadays.

>Sweetie
Can we go back to calling each other fags and niggers? This shit is gay af

>7% on RT
Holy shit, how do you even do that?

Forgot to add no homo, my bad nigger

All the intelligent horror fans play horror video games now because their engagement in the activity enhances any thrills or spills.

...

Excuse me if I'm being blind but where the fuck is Bruce Campbell on that picture?

Italian mobster movies are incredibly common.

He is on the chainsaw as possessed Ash.

Deadite Ash is on the chainsaw to the right.

MarbleHornets is enough of a movie

Same reason there aren't any mainstream movie icons outside of capeshit. Name one OC non-capeshit character who's achieved mass recognition and appeal in the past decade.

...

Herbert West did nothing wrong

horror movies are a meme

John Wick, the cast of the fast and furious movies.

Did they get permission from based Stoklasa?

>The cabin from cabin in the woods that doesnt even appear in the fucking movie

Fast an Furious movies started in 2001, all the recent films have just been cash-grab sequels. I'll give you John Wick, although that seems like the one original anomaly in a sea of soft reboots.

horror movies have died off in general because you can see way more horrific gore and whatever else on the internet for free. and that horrific shit is real.

horror movies worked by showing people only a little flash of horror at a time, and then let their imaginations run wild with possibilities.

nowadays theres no mystery over what a dead, decapitated, defiled body looks like. we've all become desensitized, so horror movies seem childish in comparison.

Can you guys name them all? Starting from left to right.

Because it's 2018 and the real world is scary enough!

unironically this

Who is the guy just below pumpkinhead? I recognize him but can't place him and it's driving me crazy.

Cabin inna woods
Candy Man
Leatherface
Ghostface
Silent Hill nurse
Fucking Dog Soldiers? I dunno
Phantasm
Jeeper's Creepers
Hannibal Lecter
Pumpkin Head

???
I can't get them all because I am a brainlet

I can name them all except the guy above Torrance, right of Bub, below Herb West
Bill Paxton's character in Near Dark

Because it actually takes creativity to make one and make it stick.

>Pennywise (to an extent)
Been around since the 80s
>Blind Man
>Mr. Boogie
>The Hush guy, maybe?
What kind of fucking names are these?

name one good horror game apart from silent hill 1-3
protip: you cant

>no leprechaun
>candyman
candyman sucked. no one would care if hellraiser had not been released

Ocarina of Time because of how scarily bad the graphics are

U don't like tranny villians??

Zombie is Tarman

this

The werewolf is from American werewolf in London, the vampire below the fly is Kiefer Sutherland in Lost boys, the girl below pinhead is from Poltergiest, the aliens from they live on the tv screen, the masked guy to the right is from the collector.

Until Dawn, even if it's just a movie game

Dead Space

what about presidents based on memes?

>Lugosi Dracula
>Not the best film Dracula ever, Christopher Lee

I hate how people say that Hungarian hack is the best just because he's "classic"

Thank you both. Tarman I knew was from a Living Dead movie, but I've yet to watch them all, and Poltergeist was something I wasn't 100% sure of. I need to stop slacking, and actually get around to watching the rest.

*clears esophagus*
Forgetting something?

didnt they make a new saw movie in 2017

Alien: Isolation

one of you knows who this is

am i blind or is the thing not in there

The Thing isn't there unless you count the weird warped face on freddy's chest.

where's my boy Maniac Cop?

You don’t play a lot of games, do you?

Outlast

REmake and Killer7. Killer7 is bit more of a arthouse/horror/action combo though, it also has some of the most kino scenes in video games.

youtube.com/watch?v=jrWP4cZY4mY

fucking hell

>Killer7
I'd play that game but I haven't yet found a creepy as shit guy from craigslist to play with

nice to see some lesser known creatures there, like pumpkinhead, candyman

Candyman is convenient because he's like the only black horror villain.

It's not worth it for studios. Every villain will be likened to some political entity, and every time a black guy or a woman gets murdered they'll say the movie has an agenda. There is no way to win.

who the hell is scared by dead space anyway its just violent
pretty good but it is just a choose your own adventure movie

Token black monster

Lots of people were scared by it.
It's a horror game.
And it was a good franchise.

bubba ho tep

Man Bubba Ho Tep is one of the best fucking movies ever, it might be, dare I say, Bruce Campbells best film.

snoke was the shriveled pathetic penis of the patriarchy

oh yeah, that's right

The Nazi zombies from Dead Snow. Both films were hilarious as fuck.

Monsters stop being scary when they become icons.

I AM JUST AN ICON LIVIN

I would main the T-800.

What happened to this bloke?

Are there any good recent horror movies without jump scares?

I love scary movies but hate jump scares.
